King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida are on a four-day state visit to Bhutan at the invitation of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema hosted the Thai King and Queen at Lingkana Palace. Traditional games such as archery, khuru, and soksoma were organized at the palace.
An exhibition featuring Bhutanese crafts, artwork, and locally made products was also held for the Thai royal couple to experience Bhutanese culture and craftsmanship. They toured the Kaja Throm market, viewing local produce and handmade goods from farmers and artisans.

ReplyDeleteLove the glimpse of Jetsun Pema’s practical shoe beneath her skirt in second last pic. Bhutan is not a rich place with smooth paths, and stilettos are incredibly impractical there; her dusty pink leather boots (?) with solid hiking sole are brilliant. If you wear your hem to the ground, any shoe can do!

Queen Jetsun Pema demonstrates how not to be (seen as a) clothes horse - fully independent from any kind of fashion by wearing just one style, the traditional one of her country. And it is never boring because the colours and their combination are each time different and always fascinating.
ReplyDeleteAgree!!! The Bhutanese National dress in the cities and for festivals is indeed stunning. There are mandated occasions to wear national dress ( eg Bhutanese going to a government office or temple) and many people only wear it, including in (the majority of the land) farming communities, but there they’ll have much coarser materials and slightly different designs to enable farm working.

ReplyDeleteAgain another day of stunning attire by the Queens! These silks are so fabulous and both ladies are very beautiful. I love seeing the young prince having a chance at the archery too. King Jigme Khesar is so involved with the archery. His face and body language are so sweet watching his wife and son and I also love how he is loading the arrow for his son. Everyone seems to having a wonderful time.

ReplyDeleteThere is this public park in Thimphu, the capital, where everyone can practice archery, the locals said the royal family will show up from time to time and spend some leisure time playing games.

I could look at these pictures all day - such graceful, elegant royals. Queen Suthida's shoes are beautiful and she manages archery with such poise in those heels. What a lady!!!
