On the evening of the second and last day of the state visit to the Netherlands, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain hosted a thanking reception for Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima at STRAAT, Amsterdam’s museum for street art and graffiti. I met Queen Maxima in that dress in 2014 in Chicago! She looks great!

Only QM can pull off the large bow! The hair style is perfect on her and softens the overall effect of the dress. QL looks lovely in the unusual wrap dress, but I find it needs earrings or a catchy clutch to brighten up the austere color. I wish we could see the princess without the coat. MR

I like how Queen Maxima arranged her hair on the day after the banquet. At least nobody can say that she didn't took the effort to brush it or wash it. In fact it shows how she could do her hair a bit shorter, not bad at all. I don't really like the large bow. I am sure one can take it off and replace it by something less big.

Love Queen Letizia's dress, less Queen Maxima's dress.
They are overdressed for a visit with reception during the day.
But Queen Letizia ended this state visit in a beautiful modern dress. A dress in which I can see Meghan too.

Letizia smashed it out of the park! Stunning, elegant, beautiful. I am not a fan of Maxima's dress, but maybe it was a good choice for the creative and artistic venue this function was held. It is a pitty that the Crown Princess did not take off her coat. I would love to see what was underneath. The glims of colour looked lovely.

I've seen pictures of CP Amalia's green dress. I can understand she kept her coat. To me the dress was not appropriate. The model who presented the wrapped dress in a thin green silk looked as if she wore a "peignoir". On top of that it was not very warm yesterday and it still isn't. I think CP Amalia ordered the dress in advance and like on the other state visit in Belgium, I saw the royal ladies had it cold. Everyone hoped for a warm day in Spring, but at times it looked more like Autumn.

I agree Queen Letizia is smashing in this elegant dress. The draping is a great proof of excellent craftsmanship. The silhouette makes me think of Dior in the 50s.

      @ Ladyofthemanor.
I thought Dior in the 50s-60s was about large skirts, small waists, large flat hats, 3/4 or short sleeves, white gloves not something very up to date like Queen Letizia is wearing here.

@anon 16:55 perhaps it was some other fashion house but I see this image of a silhouette like this, large hat, cigarette with a super long holder. Definitely 50s :)

    Queen L: such elegance!
Queen Max: beautifull dress! hair overdone.
Princess Margriet: cannot get a good impression.
    Princess Amalia: why a coat?

Very original and refreshing venue. Both queens look elegant . Princess Amalia looks at easy . What i do not quiet understand is wearing a raincoat with sandals , other options would have been more appropriate.

Love the "golden oldy" dress of Maxima by designer Taminiau. Fabric looks like braided. QL very chique black dress in a special model, although I love to see her more colourful in general. How beautiful Amalia was at the state dinner, but here a big "no". Why is she wearing the coat while everyone is in a dress and then together with open shoes???

I so impressed by the maturity of Amalia.20yrs old and having faced the fear of a kidnapping plot, that upended her life.I tip my hat to her!
I sense QL is in some discomfort she didn’t seem herself at all on this visit. But she looked beautiful in the blue dress.
QM as always, her personality fils the room. She seems like a fun person.Though I’m not overly taken with the choice of dress. She has the figure to wear it.

On the other hand, they all are very good friends, Máxima is from Argentina, Spanish heritage..all of them speak Spanish, the Oranges come to Spain few times a year, actually, they met esch other in Sevilla.

Thanks for the information and the link to the Netherland based designer Mohamed Benchellal.
She has chosen one of his models that is wearable. A lot of his creations are pieces of art.
Interesting that Queen Letizia chose one of his creations as against a Spanish designer/creator.
I agree with @Anon 06:56 that his work would be very suitable for Duchess Meghan.

  20. Love QL's modern style. QM is dated. Pss CA I just don't understand - open toed sandals +coat + silly little gold handbag. She never appears to be comfortable in or enjoy her clothes, which at her age she should - IMO.

There's a mish mash of styles among the 3 women today. Letizia beautiful but too dressy, Maxima's dress and huge bow are not elegant, Amalia's big coat is awkward. The interesting thing is that during this visit, Maxima's hair has been nicely coiffed. Why can she do the same on regular days? she has the means. It's a lack of respect when she shows around most days with ratty hair.

Since Felipe and Letizia are the hosts of the event, they certainly know how formal it is, meaning Letizia is hardly overdressed. These events are coordinated between the two families, and they and their guests know what level of dress is expected. You may be new here. If you are not aware, the subject of Maxima's hair, and the idea that she is being disrespectful to the people of The Netherlands is asinine. In most people's minds, it takes a much more egregious act than not having naturally thick hair to be disrespectful to an entire country. Amalia is still getting comfortable in her public role. We can only speculate, but she seems to prefer being covered up. She can't have a very large wardrobe of clothes for official duties, so wearing what she has and what she feels comfortable in wins the day. If that is the case, who could blame her? Such harsh criticism for such a young woman that is a future queen -- whether she wants to be or not. Her life has been endangered already, and strangers always have opinions about her. I wish everyone would give her some space to grow into her role.

Excuse me,@ anonymous 19/4/24 at 21:50, do you realize what " ratty hair" means?
Moreover, do you have a clue about what " a lack of respect" implies?
I've seen many sneakier examples of lack of respect from a blogger, always the same- though with a hundred different signatures on her posts-, on this site.
I bet you should know well what I am talking about.

What elegant dress and color. Letizia is stunning wearing it. I like Maximas's dress not so much this oversized bow. Sadly, no showing from Amalias dress really would have liked to see it. css

What a strange collection of styles for the one event. Queen Letizia’s dress is smart but the bow is pointless it detracts rather than improves. Queen Letizia’s dress is elegant but the long shawl scarf bit seems superfluous. As Anon 21 50 says, the Princess of Orange has a bizarre collection of floaty dress, open coat (too short for the dress) and summer sandals! Why? As for Princess Margriet, it’s great to see her but she must have accidentally picked the wrong top for the skirt and then had no time to change!

I'm not a fan of big bows or big wraps. In my opinion, both queens' dresses would look better without it.
Princess Amalia - a coat? I don't know why she wears it, but probably not because of the cold, when all the ladies have short sleeves.
    I don't like Princess Margriet's outfit - a wild combination of patterns.
But the white dress of the lady in the middle is a fashion disaster - I don't need to explain why.

    Dear @ Angie,
I really appreciate and enjoy all of your comments.
I personally like both Maxima' s and Letizia ' s outfits shown on this official visit.
    Amalia was fabulous too.
Unfortunately, I just do not have enough time to comment on each single poster, though I would love to.
Note: I think it to be a total lack of respect towards Queen Letizia insisting on her feet condition and her need to stay seated for a part of this visit.
Intruding into such personal health issues is out of place and rude, so, please, do not keep nasty and unpleasant comments into account.
You know, some people (or should I say just one person changing identities?) on this blog seems to be spending all of her time scrutinizing other women' s health conditions in a senseless way.
She seems to be forgetting about her own serious issues.
Thank you for all the links and interesting information you provided.
    Bye.👋
