I think Anne looks lovely on this trip. But I am just wondering.... Is Catherine still a working royal?

You are right. I think there is no country in which Christmas holidays take 5 weeks.

Apparently yes, but the preening “looking after the kids” argument comes up every time. As if the parents who have to work don’t “look after” theirs. This will always be a polarizing issue.

I like Anne’s first outfit, but the second dress is too shiny. Her hair looks a bit less unkempt than yesterday.

How about we stop assuming that Catherine is not working if we don't see her out in public. I am sure she has plenty to do that is not for the public's eyes. The second thing I want to say is that being a hands-on mother is a job. Being a full-time parent is more work than working outside the home. If she chooses to spend some time with her kids, good for her. They will only be all the better for it. If we don't see her, know that she is working. We aren't privy to every waking moment of her days. Can we stop looking for things to find fault with?

What many don't realise is that not all royal work is publicised. Some work is behind the scenes and includes the planning of what the public will see when it is time to "shine the spotlight" on that work. Out of sight does not mean not working.

Yes, Petra, regular people who work don't look after their kids. Only the Wales, who are in a unique position wherein they don't "have" to work, because they get money anyhow and have 70+ year old relatives doing all the royal work instead, are looking after their children. And looking after these 3 kids takes mum, dad + nanny all staying home with them for weeks at a time.

"Being a full time parent is more work than working outside the home"
Maybe you never worked outside the home and are a full time parent at the same time. Women or men with kids who are working outside the home have 2 jobs. During the day (and sometimes these are long days, most people don't have a 9 to 5 job) they work outside the home and after work in the evening their 2nd job starts. Prepare dinner, helping the kids with their home work, helping them with their shower or bath and helping them into bed. If you are lucky and you can find a part-time or half-time job you are a bit more relax. If you are lucky and you have a job that offer you a good salary you can look for domestic help and you are a bit more relax. I presume a lot of (mostly) women on this blog know what I am talking about. The Duchess of Wales does not have to do all of that. Money : no problem, Domestic help : no problem. I think she likes to spend a big part of her time with the education of her kids which is excellent, but you are not going to tell me that she is working harder than the average women.

I also agree also with ANON 14/24 11:20 who described very well what is going on at the Wales residence(s).

It must have escaped your attention that Catherine has 3 young children, while Princess Anne's 2 children are over 40 years old.
Not long ago, people complained that the late Elizabeth II, when she was a mother of young children, often traveled around the world and left her children in the care of a nanny. Now - maybe the same people complain that children are Catherine's priority.

      Stephanie,
these are two extremes. Queen Elizabeth was away for months. Catherine barely works because she "is always looking after the kids".
Here's the the thing: these fancy schools that the BRF kids go to have got more holidays than other schools, around 5 months. To take all of that off is a lot.
But okay, fine, if she wants to take all of that off, okay... But if the kids are really the only reason, why can she not go to work each school day during school hours?? Because she doesn't. During school weeks she often only appears once or twice per week, often on a Tuesday.

Dear Anonymous (20:44), dear Petra (19:04)
I and other women also go to work, but this work is not trips to Sri Lanka or other distant destinations. Going to the same job every day and coming home to your family and children in the evening is completely different than traveling across the country and abroad. In a regular job, a person already has a kind of routine and a regular regime, and at least one of the parents returns home at the time when the children return from school.
Plus, every business trip requires thorough preparation, it's not just what people see thanks to photojournalists. If you are imagining the work schedule of the Princess of Wales based on photos in the newspaper, then your ideas are quite naive.
      Stephanie

    5. Anonymous14/1/24 11:10

I did not say she had to travel to Sri Lanka, she should do more work in the UK. After dropping the children off at school, she should go and do some work in the UK, before going to pick them up again.
Sure, there is some office work that we don't see, but the other royal ladies whom we see a lot more than Catherine (both BRF royals and other European royals) also do it, in addition to their public appearances. If Catherine's defenders think that she does so much more office work than other royal ladies and therefore does fewer public appearances, all i can say is lol.
Catherine does not seem to like to work, i don't know why. She has never had a full time job, only part time, even in all the years before she got married and had kids, why is that?
There are many qualities that she has, but work ethic is not one of them. She dresses incredibly well, is a great mother sure, and when she appears she does a great job. It's just that she appears rarely.
Being a housewife is completely fine with me in general, it's that she cannot be a housewife because she married the heir to the throne. It's a job.

      Dear Anonymous 11:10 am
First of all, it is sad that you used the debate about Princess Anne's journey to attack the Princess of Wales.
The second : based on prejudices and assumptions, you dishonor her - I quote your words: "she doesn't like to work ... work ethic is not one of her qualities...". You certainly have evidence for this statement in the form of Catherine's work schedule. Please, where did you get this work schedule? Straight from the palace office? Did they send it to you via email? Could you publish it? Share with us and we can talk about facts and not impressions.
Also let us know which royal ladies with young children did you compare Catherine to? The only thing that came to mind was Princess Victoria of Sweden. So you also have her work schedule and list of appearances, you know, so we can compare - facts.

"..... and at least one of the parents returns home at the time when the children return from school". My son or daughter in law did not have finished work when my grandson returned from school at 15:30 in the afternoon. It are the grand parents that are waiting at the school to pick up their grand children instead, until they are old enough to return alone.
In my country the children of the Royal family are brought and picked up by a chauffeur from the palace. When the children were very young, the crown princess or sometimes the crown prince brought them to school in the morning before starting their own duties.

You can't follow CP Victoria's work closely if you think she works as little as Catherine. But if you want to do a comparison, CP Victoria's Christmas holidays: December 25th - January 6th. Princess Catherine's Christmas holidays: December 9th - still ongoing.
Today was an important meeting at Catherine's centre for early childhood and she wasn't there. Where was she? It's a school day. So much for her doing all this work at the office lol...
I notice you don' t have a response to her not doing full time work before marriage and kids either. Not doing full time work before kids, that's where i can see her work ethic.
She'll have a very hard time working full time as Queen if she has never done it before. She will have to work full time as Queen, and most of the elderly people who are doing the BRF work now won't be able to do it for her then.

You're right that it doesn't quite belong on Anne's post, but since the topic is Catherine not appearing, we can't write about it on posts about her appearances, since there are none. She would do well to take Anne as an example though.

I'm sure someone could have organized a more suitable pair of sunglasses for her. Typical Anne, she doesn't care. Actually likeable. But unfortunately it really doesn't look good with the traditional dress.

@Anonymous 11:56 and 9:32: Princess Anne is very well able to decide what kin d of sunglasses are suitable for her - namely, the ones she prefers to wear :-) . These (or an identical pair of) Adidas sunglasses were first worn by Zara at the 2012 Olympics. So maybe the Princess Royal likes them, and maybe she is totally uninterested in what other people might think about her preferences. Which makes perfect sense for me for an independent minded woman who sure does not need a stylist to style her to look the same as Instagram influencers. (GM)

She has the right to wear the sunglasses that she likes. But Adidas is a sports article. I'd prefer sun glasses bought at an Optical store where they have the tools to look at your eyes and propose sun glasses adapted for your eyes.

  12. I really liked the apricot coloured dress in the first photo in which it is shown. However, I don't know if it is a trick of the light but if it is in a nasty shiny material as shown in the second photo, it's a thumbs down from me. The blue Paisley patterned outfit is pleasant enough if unexciting.

Two more perfect outfits for the Princess Royal! I really love the day outfit--great looking blouse and skirt. Her dinner dress is a favorite cocktail dress she's worn over the years (yes, the Princess is the founder of sustainable fashion and its just recently the rest of the world has caught on). The Paisley print reminds me my grandmothers aprons. The shiny orange dress looks like a dress one can find in vintage shops which sell items of the 1920-1930. Compared to that the dresses of the Japanese princesses are lovely and looking younger (end of the 50-ees until the end of the 60-ees). Where on earth P. Anne find these horrible clothes. And those shoes they have no shape anymore they must at least be 30 years old. How can she walk in it without having pain in her feet.

Lovely to see the Princess Royal, Anne, featured on this trip. He clothing is classic for Anne, not too fussy, climate appropriate, with her common sense and taking into consideration the bright sun, wearing glasses she has worn for years, to protect her eyes. She is after all, in her 70's. She is a credit to the Royal Family in her sense of duty and work ethic. Edwina

She is much to be admired. Steadfast, loyal, no nonsense and attention to her duty is faultless. What a fine representative she is of the Royal family. I think she is fabulous. Her work ethic all these years has been second to none.
