On December 11, 2023, Princess Kako of Japan attended the 6th Urban Greenery Award Ceremony at Meiji Kinenkan Hall in Tokyo, Japan. The "Midori no Wa Koryu no Tsudoi" awards are designed to champion ambitious nature-orientated approaches to city design and operation. Many award recipients were representatives of companies and municipalities, who were lauded for helping make greener cities.
How wonderful to see Kako! She is such a lovely young lady!

ردحذفSome years ago the "paper bag style" was fashion for skirts and pants. Kako's skirt is a bad imitation and is one of her less attractive outfits.

Ah, thank you Missy - I'd either forgotten about that or missed it. I like it better now that I can see it in full. Still not my favourite but she can pull off a youthful fresh look like this. Thanks again.

I like this paperbag style skirt on her, among other things because I am happy to see her wear something different from what the Japanese royal ladies usually wear. It looks nice and fresh on young and pretty Kako. (GM)
ردحذفPrincess Kako is such a lovely young woman who seems to be quite approachable--she has such a beautiful and warm smile. The top is a wonderful shade of blue on her. I would love the paperbag-style skirt on her if the waist was a bit more defined but the fabric is beautiful.

ردحذفIs this not again an outfit that used to be worn by former Princess Mako ? The high waist on the paperbag skirt does not suit Princess Kako's figure so well. Maybe it is the fabric that doesn't work, the embroidery seems to add thickness to the paperbag folds. And we don't get to see the shoes (white ?) !

ردحذفI’m surprised by so many negative reactions to this outfit, which looks to me more like an empire-waist dress than a skirt and top. I think it’s quite cute. I had never heard of the “paperbag” style, and agree that it’s not the most figure-flattering, but imo on a slender wearer like Kako it can work. The colors are lovely, and the multi-colored jacquard (?) portion of the dress is an opulent, dressy feature. Kako is managing to bring some interest to the imperial ladies’ style, while still keeping to a conservative standard as befits dressing for official engagements.
