Crown Princess Elisabeth, Prince Emmanuel and Princess Eleonore were also present at the reception. This year, the reception replaced the annual Christmas concert, which cannot take place due to the renovation work on the facade of the Royal Palace.

  1. I love the Queen’s outfit. It’s a flattering colour, well cut and very dramatic. Dries van Noten is a good designer for her. (V.M.)

  2. Not a clue whether we're looking at a coat or a coatdress worn by QM, but despite the festive look of the fabric to me the overall look is no good: it's far too long, in particular combined with the pair of trousers. I also wonder why the queen is often heaving such a thick layer of foundation on her face; sometimes even looking orangish ... King, princesses and prince all look good.

    1. I tend to agree with too heavy of a makeup. She can be fresh-faced at times and is totally lovely.

  3. This coat dress might compete with the other Christmas decorations and ornaments in the room. It certainly is bright and striking. I do admire the design and craftsmanship of the garment which is well done by DVN. It is versatile as it can be worn as a coat with pants underneath or as an evening dress.

  4. Très beau modèle qui allonge sa silhouette ; je pense que la Reine a su bien choisir ses boucles d'oreilles en fonction des motifs fleuris du manteau !

  7. The reception was held instead of the Christmas concert this year. The renovation works at the palace will end by the Summer of 2024. For the moment it is only the façade that is done. I like Queen Mathilde's coat by Dries Van Noten. Maybe she did not had to wear pants underneath but simply black court shoes and tights and a pencil skirt. Or a pair of long black boots like the model. It is very up-to-date wearing such a coat. I saw it on television and in the boutiques, such coats are in for the moment. She also wore a new golden handbag by Armani. CP Elisabeth looks very good in her cobalt blue midi dress and black boots. She is wearing also a pair of earrings by Caroline Herrera, which belong to Queen Mathilde. And Princess Eléonore is so lovely in a repeated black shimmering top and red pants. She is also wearing earring but we cannot see which ones.
On the video of the reception when the royal family is moving one can see there was a choir of singing young ladies. A buffet plenty of drinks and food. Prince Emmanuel and his sisters were completely at ease when they went talking to the guests and children that were present.
What a warm and friendly and above all social feeling royal family.

    1. I agree, would be interesting to see her combining the coat with a skirt.

  10. I love Mathilde's coat. It looks rich and embellished thanks to the colour and fabric, and the long lines accentuate her lovely height. If only Prince Gabriel had been there for the last two photos, those would have been ideal family portraits of the Season.

  11. While the Queen's outfit could be pulled apart and each piece (the coat/trousers) worn with other pieces. Putting them together was a mistake. The coat is a lovely embroidered material in a rich colour, while the pants, the length take away from the coat.
Lovely to see the young ladies and son on this outing. Edwina
