On September 8, 2023, The Prince and Princess of Wales have arrived at St Davids Cathedral in Pembrokeshire, Wales to mark the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death with a small private service. Queen Elizabeth was the first monarch to visit St Davids Cathedral since the Reformation, when she arrived at the site with the late Duke of Edinburgh during a royal tour to Wales in August 1955.

Catherine is so elegant and beautiful in this ensemble. The mulberry color is an excellent choice in that it is a color that can be associated with the lifting of the 1 year mourning period that used to be practiced. I love the simple lines of her coat and the choice of the pearl earrings as her only jewelry today--understated, quiet, even reflective.

The colour, dress style and hat look lovely on Catherine.
However I am more moved by the symbolism of this commemorative service for the late Queen Elizabeth, staged at a small church where she and her late husband first visited in 1955. An honourable and poignant touch of remembrance.

She’s so very classy and elegant, and I admire how she does public life. I just wish she and the other royal ladies could wear running shoes every day instead of these heels … my feet ache to see these stilettos! - AnneLise with the sensible shoes

    2. The heels are elegant. Flat shoes with the coat would have looked awful. I have many pairs of high heeled shoes which are comfortable-----as well as some that are not! I have tried to educate my husband to the fact that there are shoes you wear which are a different category to shoes you can walk in :-)

Beautiful outfit. In my opinion, there is beauty in simplicity. I love the earrings (which belonged to HM Elizabeth II). Thanks Kate for the inspiration - what to wear to the official memorial service I'm going to on Monday (for the victims of the Holocaust and totalitarian regimes in my country). I didn't want to wear black, but a dark burgundy dress would be great.

What elegance, what colour, what “allure”, as the French would say, wonderful.
Perhaps a brooch would have given that extra touch.

Strange. Wearing a winter outfit when it is warm outside. I don't know what t° it is in the U.K. but looking at the people outside the church they are all dressed in their summer clothes. She has beautiful dark clothes in thinner fabric than this woolen coat dress. Anyway it is her choice, if she wants to sweat in these clothes, fine with me. Rose

    2. It was a foggy morning at first. They even appeared with some delay because of the fog. She later changed into a very casual and much lighter outfit when visiting a seaweed farm. As did the Prince of Wales.

Sorry I forgot no critics allowed when it concerns Duchess Catherine. But I said what I saw : a winter outfit when it is summer outside. I understand for someone who has only 1 descent outfit but that is not the case. She has different dark outfits in thinner fabric like I said. I don't see what is wrong by saying the truth. I am not someone who is telling lies just to please the audience. Rose

Rose, It is true that one cannot criticise Kate, they all seem to be so crazy about her that they almost lose their objectivity. My unflattering comment on Kate was also not posted. I was saying that she has a boring and un-personal style and each dress is a copy of the previous one in a different colour. Except when she wears horrible leggings, as if there were no more appropriate trousers. Irene

I agree but I think it's probably a lot cooler in church than outside. And I can imagine she just wants to cover arms and knees in a church. A nice dress would have been great to but this is more "dressed".

Kate looks alright the dress style is boring; hat too jaunty, not respectful,I would have liked to have seen a navy coloured,or a bright colour as the Queen was always bright. William looks good;what about the children(Tara)

  13. The Princess looks beautiful. This coatdress is subtle, but very elegant. I think this outfit was a good choice for the occasion, a repeat and dignified ensemble. The rich mulberry color is a fabulous shade. The cut and fit of this coatdress is perfect, love the length. The accessories color - splendid. Love her hat and up do.

Catherine is just beautiful, elegant & regal. There are not enough words to ecpress just how beautiful she looks. You can buy clothes but you can't buy style Catherine has got it. Just love how she dresses Mary

She is not the only beautiful princess in the world. There are others who have as much style as she has. But with her it is always the same, never something new, we are living in 2023 not in 1945-1955. If she is happy by staying in that period, she has every right to do so. But now and then wearing something more up to date will do no harm. I remember when Catherine was just married, she wore beautiful dresses and two-pieces : jacket and skirt which were always classic why can't she wear that style any more ? You mention Queen Elizabeth. She was always dressed according to the classic fashion of the time she was living in. When she became older she adopted her own classic style which she kept until the end of her life.

Thank you for a very thoughtful comment. It made me give some thought, too, to the Princess of Wales’s choices. I think your answer may lie in your last few sentences. Like the late HM QEII, HRH the Princess of Wales dressed differently when she was younger. But, she’s no longer in her 20s/30s, and she is now the wife of the heir to throne. I think she has found her own style, is comfortable in it, and is going to wear it, whether others like it or not (and many do not, as they are entitled to do).

You make it sound as if the Princess of Wales is much older. What will she wear when she will 50 years old ? An age that is not old for women nowadays. The style she is wearing is a style that don't exist anymore. It was fashion when young Queen Elizabeth became Queen. Older queens/princesses in Europe are dressing in a classic style too but they are looking more up-to-date than Duchess Catherine and they are much older f.ex. Queen Silvia of Sweden, Princess Benedikte of Denmark, ..... I wonder what she will do when she will not be able anymore to walk on high stiletto's. She will be obliged to wear lower heels, therefore she will also be obliged to have her coats/dresses made shorter otherwise it will be awful.

I think she sees this as a "uniform", all these long coats and coat dresses. To me it looks boring too, but one cannot ignore that she always looks classic, classy and dignified. When you see how cricital the British press can be, and people on blogs like this, I understand she wants to play safe. It's her choice, it's not up to us to judge her choices. If I were her, I'd probably also look for a uniform, just a different one.
