Crown Princess Elisabeth of Belgium and her classmates from The Royal Military Academy (RMA) will take their officer's oath in autumn. In the recent weeks, they participated in a summer camp that concludes their military training. The Belgian Royal Palace released various photos taken during the camp.
The camp focused on the training of platoon commanders and teaching them to lead a platoon of about thirty people. Theoretical lessons, tactical exercises and combat procedures placed them in the role of an officer for the first time. They also learned to use more complex weapons such as grenades and anti-tank weapons.

ReplyDeleteBefore king Baudouin changed the article in the constitution that only men could become king, It was expected of the Crown prince that he became a student at the Royal Military Academy. In Belgium the king has the highest rang in the army, navy, air-force, etc... As Elisabeth is the 1st Crown princess who will be Queen later, It is expected of her that she also follows the program of the RMA . In theory she has no choice, but one can see that she is well aware of her duties and is doing it with a lot of interest and courage. Rose

She is not crown princess of Belgium. She's the duchess of Brabant which is the title of the Belgian heir apparant. Do your research.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me she IS the crown princess. When king Albert II became king, King Phillippe (then prince) became the title of Duke of Brabant. Nobody ever called him that way. It was prince Phillippe tout court. Now in Belgium it is Princess Elisabeth tout court. Everybody know she is the crown princess and sometimes she is called that way in the media but Duchess of Brabant is just a title that she has. I think there are a lot of Belgians that don't even know she is also Duchess of Brabant. When do you think she may be called crown princess then ? As far as I know there is only one that can called that way, she is the oldest child of the king. Just like in the Netherlands Princess Amalia is the crown princess because she is the oldest child of the king. Rose

DeleteI think there is no substantial difference between a heir apparent and a Crown Prince/ Princess.

It depends on the way the first successore Is Styles in the various monarchies.
Technically, also CP Frederick, CP Haakon and CP Victoria are heirs apparents as well.

Elisabeth IS the Crown Princess of Belgian and duchess of Brabant. It's not the same that Princess Anne is Royal Princess.
DeleteShe is both. Belgian people known the title of duke or duchess of Brabant. Brabant is the name of two Belgian provinces (flemish and franch).

ReplyDeleteHer family name is von Sachsen (or Saxen) Coburg. It is also the name she uses at the University of Oxford. She is also called Princess Elisabeth of Belgium. Her brother Gabriel is also using von Saxen Coburg in the Royal Military Academy. Rose
