On 21 July 2023, King Philippe, Queen Mathilde, Crown Princess Elisabeth, Prince Gabriel, Princess Eleonore and Prince Emmanuel visited the "Party in the Park" (Feest in het Park) held at Warandepark (Brussels Park) on the occasion of the National Day 2023. The family visited a stand of the Belgian Defence. Belgian National Day is the national holiday of Belgium celebrated annually on July 21.
The ladies look just lovely in their green dresses. It is a color that suits them well. I like the feminine design and pattern of Princess Eleanore’s dress and the sleek elegance of Princess Elisabeth’s. Queen Mathilda’s dress is bright and cheery for a lovely day. And the gentlemen look quite spiffy too.

Love the coordinating green dresses. Princess Eleanore’s is perfect. The waistline of the Queen’s dress is too high but it’s still a lovely dress. Kudos to the ladies for walking on the cobbles in those heels ðŸ‘

Since the comments on Queen Mathilde's belts we don't do belts any more in Belgium. Besides the dress of Princess Elisabeth was designed without a belt by the designer.

Can a Belgian reader explain to me why Mathilde and Elisabeth wear hats on formal occasions but not the youngest princess?

I am commentating from Australia.
My guess would be that it is mainly age-related. Princess Eleonore just turned 15 in April. Many royal ladies start wearing hats when being 16 or older, often even after turning 18. Few exceptions, of course. So have we seen Lady Louise (Windsor-Edinburgh) start wearing fascinators and hats quite early, also Princesse Charlotte wore a hat to the late QE II's funeral, and an elaborate headpiece to the coronation of KC III. It depends on the situation, and the personal preferences, besides the age matter, I shall think.

Delete@ Cate. 1. Since the children are still living with their parents, I think Queen Mathilde tells them what she think of their outfits. CP Elisabeth of course is old enough to choose her dresses herself (during school period she is living in London as she follow the college courses at Oxford University). From Princess Eléonore we know that she likes the French brand "Maje" very much. But they probably had an agreement to wear green for a change. One cannot do flag dressing all the time.
Delete2. I think the only reason Princess Eléonore is not wearing a hat is because she finds herself too young (15 y) to do so. But adult queens and princesses usually wear a hat and a pair of gloves on formal occasions (in the morning to go to church f.ex.). Even if you don't wear the gloves but just holding them in your left or right hand is formal enough. During the Party in the Warandepark (on the opposite side of the Royal Palace in Brussels) none of the ladies will wear hats or gloves and not tonight at the final concert and fire works they will not wear hats and gloves either. DeleteSince you started to talk about Lady Louise and Princess Charlotte, I think you are British. You must not forget that the habits of the Belgian Royal Family might be different than the British.

DeleteLove the green dresses!!! Each lady is in a marvelous look for her. Each deserves a round of applause for negotiating the cobblestoned pavement in heels--especially the sky high heels we can see on Mathilde and Elisabeth! The King and his sons look quite dapper.
