I feel the oposite. Sweden have costumes that are much, much better. This Sweden costume is awful. Look at these. They are great. https://bildix.mmcloud.se/bildix/api/images/f1d273f74824e13c59e62153167bbd89e2577b7d.jpg?fit=crop&w=640 https://bloggar.aftonbladet.se/hovbloggen/files/2009/06/nationaldagen.jpg https://www.gp.se/image/policy:1.28909975:1591417661/xqfS5NHDNjL8Dx1x7w9km0dQ54M.jpg?f=Regular&w=1440&$p$f$w=e095a54

I agree with anon 07:17. I do not like Sverigedräkten. It was constructed a century ago as a low budget for women who no longer had roots in a specific parish or county. I think the royal family wears this on our National day as an inclusive gesture. They all have beautiful old costumes from different counties.

I don't know. There's a lot of different colors and patterns going on in those photos - not all flattering. I think these gold and blue ones are better. JMO.

Dear anonymous person whose entire comment was “weird”,
I assume from your comment that you are not from a country with proud old traditions, but I hope that one day you can come to Sweden for our National Day and learn about it and enjoy it with us. We love it and are sorry you find weird what we find beautiful and fun.
      Välkommen!

Agree. And those costumes aren't they boring......And what if the king could give away a smile at least once......Looks like a real boring event. C

    4. It's totally beyond me how people can find fault with national costumes of any kind. Quite shocking. Lack of respect for traditions and folk culture, and - all-in-all - lack of respect for that particular country.

How exciting to see the whole family (minus CP and Sofia's little ones) together at National Day!!! It has been such a long time--its wonderful having Madeleine and her family back. Oscar looks adorable with his "posing"--he really is handsome boy. Love how Silvia's shawl's design is like the daisies on the traditional dresses. Also glad to see Madeleine wearing a more traditional style of shoe instead of the pumps/dress shoes she has worn in previous years.

  6. Très belles photos mais l'avant-dernière est celle que je préfère le plus ; Estelle et Oscar y sont trop mignons ; je vois très bien le costume et la coiffure d'Oscar qui fait vraiment branché !

There is an explanation to why men haven’t got one but even though I speak and understand Swedish (at least I thought so….) I don’t understand the motivation - something about hygiene is written but I dont get it….av

It's just by tradition that men don't wear national dress

This particular dress, Sverigedräkten, does not have a male version. It is not very old and Queen Silvia made it popular. They all have several beautiful old costumes from different counties where also the men have special dress.

What a beautiful family. The costumes are very beautiful, but at the Polar Music Festival at Stockholm they knocked it out of the park, especially CP Victoria.

Why write this? When you’re unsure whether you need to make your comment or not, remember it’s a public blog and anyone including the children of the families you criticise may read this. Let’s be kind! - AnneLise
