Lovely design for the occasion. Resembles the Indian Sari, beautiful colour on Sofie. I don't like the colour lining of the dress. I think the same colour as the top of the dress would be better.

On the second picture, is it Nathaniel Parker? e.

      Indeed, without the "Henry"-beard, finally!

The colour of the dress is lovely on D. Sophie. I’d prefer to see better earrings, rubies maybe, but overall I think she looks good here. (V.M.)

Sophie looks very glamorous here. For as much as we can see, the dress hugs her figure perfectly, and I'm fine with the white/cream sheath beneath the lace overlay. It makes for a nice contrast. Her hair looks lovely too.

I like the lighter lining as well, highlights the lace (it wouldn't stand out with the same color lining). I do wish she'd gone for some better earrings, jewels perhaps.

@Chel: I agree that she could have done with some better jewels. Didn't have to dip into the Royal vaults, but at least some decent rubies or other precious stones. And yes, if the sheath dress underneath was the same colour as the lace, the lace would be totally lost and the dress would lose its interest.

  9. I think that light coloured lining just spoilt what I think could have been a beautiful dress. Her hair and makeup are nice though but I do not like her earrings at all. Not sure if she is allowed to raid the Royal jewel box but if she is I am sure there are much nice ones in it for such an occasion.

Not a fan of lace over a nude or pale lining. She look glamorous from shoulders and up. I think she should have left the scarf at home.

The Duchess is wearing a flattering shaped dress for her. Great color, but I want a few things to happen. 1. Match lining with lace. 2. We know the British vaults are DEEP with ruby jewelery. Sophie should be lent a good set of everything for occasions like this. Including a brooch. I understand that brooches aren't super popular among the younger generations, but this neckline is too high for most necklaces, but is SUPER "thick" so imo a brooch would be the substitute. I know it might be too soon, but I could see the Grima on this.

If the dress was made for me, I would have asked the designer to use a "ton-sur-ton" lining instead of white (or even nude or light rose). The D. of E. looks lovely, her hair is beautifully done and her clutch and jewelry are appropriate for India. Emilio Pucci designed a few clothes for CP Mette Marit.

    Lovely sweet Sophie!
    Love the dress.
Many of you suggest a lining in the same colour as the lace: I think that would spoil the dress because you couldn’t see the lace anymore: it would become a totally different dress.
Her curly hair reminds me of her daughter!

    1. What would you think of a pink? Still a contrast with the lace, but not so stark.

Wow!!! Sophie looks fabulous here--gorgeous gown, perfect jewelry for the occasion, great hair and makeup. Hope we see this gown again at another function--maybe a state dinner--and she gets to dip into the BRF jewel vault for some rubies. Really perfect look!

Exactly, I agree 100% (especially about wearing it again with rubies from the vault).

The pale lining I don't like, a matching lining or close to the outer lace. No to the earrings. A beautiful pair of pearls or rubies, would have looked better. Her hair looks gorgeous, makeup perfect. Her bangles look interesting, not quite sure what they are.

      Indeed, she looks gorgeous, Ava.
I have read that Duchess Sophie bought this amazing one- shoulder lace dress in 2013 but she has never been seen in it since then.
And yes, hair and makeup are on point too.
Looks like she wore seven bangles worth three zero pounds.
Could it be that she wore these earrings to add an exotic flair to her ensemble?
      Hugs for you👍👋

    2. Aw, thank you for that insight, P. the original. That is very interesting. 10 year old gown, how splendid that she is wearing it in public.
Yes you are probably right about her earrings, I am not up on such things LOL!
Hope all is well for you. Hugs

      Thank you so much, Ava.
Yes, I'm doing well and wish all the best for you.too
You know, I adore jewels and whatever has a sparkle in it including rhinestone on shoes and sequins on dresses.
Although I often happen to buy pieces when strolling around (also during my layovers), then I have so little time left to wear them...😐
      I'm keen on sapphires.
      Hugs👋

    4. Aw nice, glad to hear it.
      Thank you yes, all okay.
      I love jewels as well.
Speaking of jewels, I saw a photo of CP Mary, her shoe color matched the gown she wore, pale blue, and the top area of her shoes had the most beautiful stones and buckle, rhinestone? possibly, regardless, the shoes looked gorgeous! Cannot remember which event.
Its wonderful you are able to stroll in different places on layover, variety and individual pieces come to mind.
Oh, I love Sapphires! (and rubies LOL!)
      Take care and stay safe.
      Hugs

Hello Ava, thank you so much again.
I especially enjoy strolling in the most famous shopping area in Copenhagen.
      Carlend drives me crazy (bags).
Antwerp drives me crazy as far as jewels are concerned, you can find some of the most amazing diamonds there.
About the shoes: sorry, I can't remember Pss Mary's outfit but she is surely used to wearing some of most jaw- dropping pieces I have ever seen and I mean literally any piece of her outfits from head to toè!
I myself have high- heeled black suede pumps with a rhinestone band on the top area .
So nice to hear you are doing well.
      Hugs👋

I think The Duchess of Edinburgh has thoughtfully and perfectly dressed. If the lining had been the same color as the lace, it would have looked heavy and lost the sense of unity with the fabric hanging from her shoulders for the occasion. I vote for this color.
She also chose her jewelry thoughtfully. I think she has consciously downgraded them. On occasions not hosted by Royalty, Catherine often chooses like this.
The event is associated with a former colony. India is a source of high-quality rubies. I feel that this choice of non-royally owned jewelry is good.
Instead, her hairstyle is gorgeous. The hair accessory is also an eye-catching choice. And the bracelets, rings, and all the jewelry are well matched in terms of their grade.
I applaud this style, which symbolizes that luxury is not the top priority in royal fashion, even on splendid occasions.
