King Charles and Queen Camilla greeted the people from the balcony of Buckingham Palace following their joint coronation that took place at Westminster Abbey. The King and Queen saw huge cheers and applause from the crowds of thousands of people who had waited for hours down The Mall for the historic occasion.

The King and Queen were accompanied by working members of the royal family on the balcony. The RAF’s Hawk jets flew over the crowds gathered on The Mall and outside the palace. More than 60 aircraft from the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force had been due to take part. However, the event only involved helicopters and the Red Arrows aerobatic display team due to unsuitable weather conditions.

How sad the Wales family wanted it to about them by arriving late and not following the plan practiced

King and Queen look regal. Long live the King.

    1. O you are an insider and now these details, just looking for something to complain about and trashing the Wales family, they had rehearsal and knew perfect what to do.

    2. So you are an insider and know all this, William is the heir and had a role in the Coronation, there where rehearsals and the Wales family knew perfect what was expected of them, shame on you

    4. Were the Wales family making it 'all about themselves' or did running late have something to do with having three young children and everything not running as thing did in rehersals.

When Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth married Prince Phillip her tiara broke, who would have thought such a thing would happen to a royal tiara on of all occasions, a wedding.

Rubbish to the original comment about it 'being all about the Wales', Rachel, you should stay where you belong, way on the sidelines. Your attitude tore Harry apart from his family.

    6. Well, the truth is that the king arrived way too early. The whole "problem", which, of course, was no real problem at all, originates from that issue in the timing. So when the Wales' arrived (right in time, btw.) and the carriage with the king and queen was already there, the quick decision was made to enter the Abbey the way they did. No harm done.

That is not true. The Wales’ we’re on time. The King arrived early. But I think it all worked out well in the end.

They (the Wales) were terribly late in fact. The king was upset. The crowd waited in the rain. Quite inconsiderate. Not the first time Will and Kate are late. They made her Majesty wait for them 15 minutes at Easter Matins in 2015. In this case it was even worse. All the pomp and circumstance - but not enough respect for the schedule?

The gold braid things (not sure what to call them) made Camilla's shoulder area look as if she was wearing a backpack.

    1. That's exactly what they were! The designer Bruce Oldfield made them (two of them, identical, to be precise) especially for this event because they hold the queen's Robe of State and later Robe of Estate. To change, the queen can easily slip out (or shrug out like she would do with, let's say, a bolero) of one and get into the next one. I thought it very cleverly done by Oldfield. It made things so much easier for the queen and her companions. No awkward fumbling with ribbons and fastenings and the likes.

The King and Queen look so happy, I especially love the last picture. The Queen's dress is beautiful. Full of details, timeless colour and fit. It reminded me of her wedding dress, which was also beautiful.
The only thing I don't understand is Catherine's headpiece. If you don't want to wear a tiara, why choose a headpiece that looks like a tiara? Why have this custom made instead of wearing a fascinator like Sophie or a real tiara they already own? Apart from that, it is a beautiful headpiece and I love the fact she can twin with her daughter. I'm curious if they will wear it again someday.

Where was the bridge to today’s Britain in this ceremony? It was copy and paste of old customs without questioning their purpose. So, to me, this was a silly carnival with silly costumes and a new queen who doesn't seem able to have a really well-fitting dress made for the occasion. Her Ladies in waiting have been better dressed than Camilla. Scarlett Witch

Believe what you like. I think you are wrong - what is intrinsically wrong with the purpose of the traditions?

It's an ancient ceremony with lots of beautiful traditions but it was absolutely updated (and shortened). Participants included women in roles not traditionally theirs, people of colour, music was older and newly commissioned and there has never been a gospel choir perform at a British coronation... To mention just some things.

Only the Prince of Wales paid direct homage which is new.

Sustainability was aimed for in different areas - the King's "silly costume" was that worn by a previous monarch.

I don't know where you saw carnival - it was a solemn religious ceremony followed by some pretty impressive ceremonial display by the forces watched by happy people. I think the British do this kind of display rather well.

As to Camilla's dress she seems to prefer looser fitting clothing - maybe more fitted would have been more flattering. I thought she looked fine - again, JMO.

    2. Oh Mrs. Witch, you don't seem to have watched the same ceremony as I did. There were many, many, many nods to our times and age and yet the traditional parts (by constitutional and religious requirements, btw.; things that can't and shan't be changed easily) were kept where ever necessary.

I am sorry for you , Scarlet, that you were not better informed to know all the alterations that were made to make the ceremony more a ceremony of this time ( and thus make a duration one third of the duration of the crowning of Queen Elizabeth).

Unnecessary post. Completely unnecessary. Why stray off topic for your own agenda? This is not as simple as some may want to think. It stems from his childhood and their unique family values that makes a parent unwilling and unable to put the happiness and welfare of one's child over one's duty. Where most parents would think the most important people in their lives are their children and grandchildren, deserving a seat of honor, Charles has never been that parent. If Andrew had been thrown in the back, only wearing a morning suit, it wouldn't have looked so bad. Somehow, after Andrew's disgusting behaviour and being banned from royal life, he was still dressed in robes. The takeaway here is that stepping away from royal duties is worse than being banned due to dishonorable and illegal behaviour.

I will never understand how it is so readily accepted that a child that is born royal MUST fulfill a particular role or be basically disowned. I can see it in William's case to a degree, but not in Harry's. No one should be forced into a life they don't want to live, then punished for expressing a desire to live differently. None of us would accept that, so why should royals?

I know a coronation is a serious and solemn affair. Also the reason it is held in a church. It is also suppose to be a happy event. Looking at these photos, I don't see anybody being happy, except Zara who is always happy! For me there was not really any difference in atmosphere between the coronation and the Queen's funeral.

Camilla's dress was magnificent and so well taylored. At the bottom of the dress, right and left of the King's arms there were two embroidered dogs that referred to her 2 dogs she got from the animal shelter. There are still people in this blog that are very negative about Camilla. Also without Camilla, Charles and Diana would have had a divorse cause they were so very different. Camilla has proven to be a lovely wife to Charles and a great support.

Diana couldn't give much support to Charles - she was so young when she married him and she herself came from a broken family (not her fault, of course). She was young and beautiful - and very popular with the masses. We can't judge because we can see only from outside. Camilla, although far older and far less beautiful seems to be right for him.

Camilla is a well deserving Queen. She stood by to watch the man she loved and loved her, marry a younger Diana for the purpose of producing heirs. Diana knew this. I am so happy Charles and Camilla found their way to this point. It is a heart touching love story.

You say: "She stood by to watch the man she loved and loved her, marry a younger Diana for the purpose of producing heirs."
Aren't you forgetting that she was herself married to another man since 1973? Charles married Diana in 1981. Camilla divorced in 1995. Where was Camilla's commitment and responsibility to her own husband and 2 children during all this time? But I guess you find infidelity OK and a touching story.

Well, that’s only half of the story. The other half sees a man who now is the head of the Church of England cheat on his wife with no remorse. What significance did his marriage vows have?

Same can be said about Camilla cheating on her husband. “Modern marriage” I suppose.

Either way, Camilla put on a good show today, carried herself well, time to move on beyond the spectacle.

It is nice to watch a bit of glitz and glamour, we live in a violent world right now, maybe get our minds on something else, then murder and mayhem. Even if it is only for a few hours. Our minds have to rest sometimes, or we will hurt ourselves and do damage of no return. It is fantastic to have old traditions, which last centuries. Hope we never forget them. So, they can be passed on for many more years to come. Historic events give us the opportunity to learn and keep it alive, it is worth it. css

Why did he come when he didn't have time to have a celebratory lunch with his family? Oh, I forgot, after publicly dragging his family through the mud, he didn't have the guts to face them at the dinner table. His son's fourth birthday is just an excuse. All of us who have children know that birthday parties can be postponed for example two days earlier or later, for example due to work commitments of the parents. A four-year-old child can wait 2 days, he doesn't really understand that either.
PS: I don't know if his back was straight, but his unhappy expression, the grimaces that should have been a smile - that says it all.

Maybe Harry is being the kind of father he wishes he'd had. Present. It's just a thought.

Harry has a right to his feelings. You don't have to like them or agree with them, but you should acknowledge the fact that his life circumstances are uniquely his and there aren't many people in this world that could ever understand what his life has been like. Charles was the future king when he went on television to admit to his extramarital marital affair with Camilla. He embarrassed the Queen. No one is innocent here. Public families go through the same things private families go through, only the World judges them and uses their personal family issues for entertainment. The stories don't have to be completely factual either, just have enough of a foundation to build a story on. @Lia gives a great example of this above.

      To anon 20.16
      1. Harry has a right to his feelings, but it's disgusting and appalling of him to bring his differences with his brother and sister-in-law to the public. Because of what? Because of his jealousy and childishness. He throws dirt on his brother and Kate over complete and utter stupid little things. If my brother attacked me in front of the whole world in the way that Harry did to William, I would never trust him again or let him anywhere near my children.
      2. Diana had many lovers (including married men), but you and Harry generously overlook this. Charles only had relations with Camilla. So Saint Diana was first an adulterer.
