On the evening of May 11, Crown Prince Regent Haakon and Queen Sonja held a gala dinner in honor of Italian President Sergio Mattarella and his daughter Laura Mattarella at the Royal Palace in Oslo. Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Astrid also attended the gala dinner. Italian President is currently on a state visit to Norway, on May 11 and 12.

King Harald was admitted to hospital this week due to an infection and for that reason, the Crown Prince hosts Italian President's state visit alongside his mother, Queen Sonja. Both the Crown Prince Regent and President Matterella gave a speech during the gala dinner.

    Q. Sonia looks good in her yellow evening gown. Why always black - although the president's daughter is elegant. "Interesting", the dress of P. Astrid - not my cup of tea.

  2. Le contraste des jaunes entre le haut brodé et la jupe de la robe de la reine lui va à merveille car cela ne flashe pas ; j'adore la princesse Astrid toujours élégante pour une personne de son âge !

Princess Astrid is a real troper, 91 years old with severe back problems and still in attendance when needed.

MM is lovely in her deep navy dress, and her smile is precious! Tender how she helps Princess Astrid along the walk. The Queen's gown is a lovely shade of yellow. The crown or headpiece is splendid on MM. G & C

I have a game for us. From now on, before we comment or judge the fashion, let’s study the context, imagine how it would feel to be there, then look at the sartorial choices within that. Who’s in? So… Context: a fabulous state dinner with uniformed attendants, jewels, fabulous ornate place settings and a confusing array of cutlery. Therefore, the dresses of the three royal ladies are absolutely perfect. Proper extravagant party dresses! In terms of the visitors, the Italian president looks fine and proud, but I wish his daughter had a more formal hair style rather than dangly bits, which in this context look under-prepared. - AnnaLise

I love seeing Queen Sonja in yellow and her diamond jewels are to die for. I adore Crown Princess Mette Marit in the same white Pucci dress, but not in this colour. Princess Astrid is a trooper, always a treat to see her attending in full gala! Luis

Good point... The comments can be highly critical and downright nasty... This is clearly not the platform for those views.

Not a fan of Mette Merit’s gown but she has such a beautiful, warm smile. The queen is lovely as always and Princess Astrid..what a gem!

Q Sonja and Pss Astrid look really good. Not a great fan of CP MM's gown. I do must say Pss Astrid has a great commitment to her brother the King and her Duties to the Monarchy. What a great lady she is. Is the King still in Hospital? hope is doing better. Where is CP Haakon? css
