Queen Sofia looks lovely, faithful to her style and not overdone with the jewelry, as she often does.
I understand that princess Irene is not representing anyone, and is her compagnon, but she always shows up so unkept, does anyone has a story behind this? In her earlier years she followed the current fashion and norms of being seen in public, but in the last 2 decades, she does not seem to care.

Queen looks lovely, appropriate for her age and style.
But, Sister Irene was not groomed for the spotlight, she always seems to have this look like 'what am i doing here! where is my nurse'

Anonimus 6:44 and Missy. Not knowing Princess Irene's condition, it would be good manners and intelligence to avoid stupid and unnecessary comments. (However, she is well dressed here) Irene

Life for an 80 year old, Royal or not, is hopefully about so many other more meaningful things than fashion! I read that Irene had breast cancer some years back and she may well avoid hair dye, cosmetics etc, all of which are not needed for a good life and can be scary after the reality of cancer. I say good on her for dressing neatly, brushing her hair and getting out to a concert, which is not a given in older ages! Let’s be kind! - Sara-Louisa.

  3. She looks very elegant and pretty. The black and white silk scarf was a clever addition.

  4. Quel plaisir de voir la reine Sofia toujours aussi pimpante en compagnie de sa soeur la princesse Irène qui a l'air plus réservée; en cette période particulière, elle a ressorti quelques bijoux favoris !

Why does nobody in Royal family give some fashion advice ,some warmer colours would make big difference.

The sombre colours are apt in Europe for this context: wintry evening, catholic cathedral, formal church service. (Carla)

@Carla. 1. Nobody is obliged to wear dark colors to go to a catholic church in Europe. Since a long time everybody can wear what they want as long as it is descend the color don't matter. 2. It is a concert that is given in a church for a good cause not a religious ceremony.
      3. It took place at Palma de Mallorca a week before Easter in the Spring and not during Winter. I am sure it is much colder in my country in Europe than in Palma on the Illes Baleares. The people in the church are maybe dressed in black (except 1 or 2) but they are wearing normal clothes like jackets and pants or a dresses and a coat. Read the captions before writing a comment.

Lovely to see Queen Sofia with her sister, Princess Irene. Sofia looks elegant. I love that Sofia and Irene enjoy each other's company and attend events together. As for those commenting on Princess Irene's attire--she is an 80 year old lady who appears quite frail. Before you make such comments think about how you would like someone commenting on your mother or grandmother in similar circumstance. Also, Irene has not sought a public life and is only featured here because she is with her sister. Its wonderful to see her enjoying a public event. Perhaps at 80 years old she has decided simplicity of dress and comfort are more important to her than following fashion.

Ladies, i disagree, Irene was born in a royal family and as such she is a public figure. Plus if she chooses to accompany her sister she knows she is attending be a public event hence she ought to look presentable.
Now, about being in her 80's we have many queens in their 80's. Beatrix, Princess Margaret, Sylvia, Sonja, and of course they lovely Queen Elizabeth, all old, elegant, representative ladies, age is for me not the point or the excuse.
But again to each their own

Irene is not a public figure - she is not part of a reigning royal family and she receives no money from the public purse to undertake any work in a public capacity. She is perfectly entitled to dress as she wishes and continue to live her private life - she is not accompanying Sofia in any formal working capacity but as her sister and a private concert goer.

In photos on other sites one can see that most ladies (royals or not) are dressed in black or other somber colours. Many of you say that queen Sofia is elegant in black but Irene is not presentable in the same colour. How cruel! And I'm glad that Carla told to those worldly commentators that in Europe sombre colours are ok during this time of year. I also like to add that not only in Catholic countries but also in Protestant countries.
