On the evening of the second day of their visit to Sint Maarten, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Crown Princess Amalia attended a reception at the official residence in Philipsburg of the governor of Sint Maarten. The reception was hosted by the Governor of Sint Maarten, Ajamu G. Baly and his wife Mrs. Janique Baly. As part of their Caribbean tour, the family will arrive in Sint Eustatius on 8 February.
Valentino Bobble Detail Dress
ERDEM Vacation Mustique Poplin Maxi Dress
Once again Maxima and Amalia look like they're dressed for different events. The positive: hair and makeup of both ladies is stunning! However, both outfits somewhat miss the mark for me. Maxima's seems a little outdated and for some reason reminds me of maternity wear, while Amalia's is nice enough, but the floral patterned fabric swallows her up a bit. I'd love to see her in something a bit more streamlined and solid to balance out her very romantic and soft features. But maybe another time in the future and for now it's comfort dressing - I can't help but feel for her, it's a very long trip for someone we haven't really seen that much in public before, let alone without her sisters etc. I hope she's not too overwhelmed!

DeleteI think that both royal ladies look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! I’ve always loved that dress on the Queen, and Amalia looks fresh and lovely. MR
DeleteReally nice dress for Amalia !
ReplyDeleteP Amalia looks very nice in the belted Erdem dress. I do find the green purse distracting, perhaps a less loud color would have looked better. I am not sure about the Valentino. It looks as if it is one size too small.

Ottima scelta di Amalia, piace molto anche a me. Penso che la sua borsa serva proprio a distrarre ed ho notato, al di là del colore, che la posiziona sempre sul davanti.
DeleteAmalia non devi nasconderti sei bella e devi brillare.

Princess Amalia looks really loverly the dress suits her. The best on this trip. I would have chosen a different belt though, that basketwork version does not go with her dress.
ReplyDeleteQueen Max no, no, no! A party dress for a 10 year old is not a good idea and I would recomend a very good lingerie shop in the hague so that the darts on your bodices are in the correct place.
I have never liked Erdem dresses and this one is no exception. Maxima's dress is too girlish for her.

Both Maxima and Amalia look lovely, and to that list may I add the lady in the floral printed pink dress shown in the last photo. Maxima looks fun and youthful in the Valentino cocktail dress, though I'd have liked it to be just an inch longer.
ReplyDeleteAs with Nalerina, I also noticed the awkwardness of the bodice in Maxima's dress that could be easily fixed by better support, and also Amalia wearing a thinner belt or no belt at all.

I agree, an inch longer would have given it a more finished look. MR
DeleteAlways loved this Valentino dress that QM already wore years ago. That's why now it should have been a bit longer. But still very elegant. Again Amalia in a flower print dress. The colour of this dress is much better for her than the ones she had before . The colour of the bag does not match at all
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings about the fashion of Dutch royalty on this tour: neither formal nor informal, casual, clothing has convinced me of a real feeling for good clothing, fitting for their different body- types and age. It is not all that bad but it is not all that good too.
ReplyDeleteI miss the simple elegance from other queens.
The princess is in a developmental phase, so I won’t comment on her outfits.
It seems to me they try very hard without really succeeding.

Both Mother and daughter look very lovely. I just wish Amalia had an updo. css.
ReplyDeleteThe Erdem dress looks like a night gown without the belt, and with the belt it's not much better. The beige belt she chose doesnt' match well, and the green purse is an equally jarring choice. To me this outfit says comfort dressing, as someone already remarked above.
ReplyDeleteAs for Maxima, it's a pretty dress but it looks girly. It's too short (always has been), the style doesn't look right for anyone beyond say 35, and her bustline is all wrong here (but looked better on an earlier occasion). Most of all I cannot comprehend what made her choose this when her teenage daughter is present wearing one of the longest dresses she could find. Don't they plan their outfits and coordinate?
Anon 23 01, I agree about the Erdem dress. Nightdress was exactly what I thought. I do like Queen Maxima’s dress though wish it was longer. It would certainly look more elegant. I think trying to tell a teenage girl what to wear might prove more of a diplomatic challenge than anything the tour could throw up 😂

You both make me laugh when I read your comments because if Amalia were reading them, she'd probably ask you, "What is a nightdress?" lol
Delete(Nightdresses have not been worn by 19yo girls for at least the past 30 years where I live. But my 80yo+ grandmother still wears them in the winter.)

This entire tour has been filled with a lot of outfits that fit neither Maxima, or her daughter. RE tThe two evening outfits: Maxima looks like a teenager should be/could be wearing the dress and definitely needs some good undergarments. Amalia is covered up as usual, hiding behind yet another purse, same one, as seen before several times on the tour.
ReplyDeleteAmalia's dress is beautiful, it suits her well. Love the splash of color with her green clutch, I love the contrast in color. Excellent choice. In another photo elsewhere she is wearing a most gorgeous emerald ring, it looks stunning. Queen Maxima looks beautiful also. Maxima was wearing diamond bling in the back of her hair, again another photo elsewhere, it looked superb.
ReplyDeleteValentino dress is fab, but a bit too young for the queen who also needs a better bra (ooops! sorry for mentioning!). Amelia’s dress fits her well, better than the model. Funny how a belt can change everything. great make up on the 2nd pic.
ReplyDeleteThe Princess never looks happy, always sad.
ReplyDeleteHer handbags are her security blanket. She is more comfortable with one on one, then you get a smile from her.
Yes, but some people would say that, that's a good thing. She's not bubbling over like her mum 😁
