This year marks King Carl Gustaf's 50th jubilee on the throne. King Carl Gustaf ascended the throne on 15 September 1973 and is Sweden's longest-reigning monarch of all time. The celebrations in 2023 for the golden jubilee of the King began with a Sweden Dinner held at the Royal Palace. King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia attended the Sweden Dinner (Sverigemiddag).

Guests representing cultural life, business, health care, education, sports from all of Sweden's counties, as well as the country's governors, were invited to the dinner. The 500th anniversary of the election of Gustav Vasa as King of Sweden after liberating Sweden from Danish rule will also be celebrated during 2023.

  1. All ladies in grey for a festive dinner !! I don't really like Victoria's dress, but she is nicely smiling.

    Sofia recovered in one day?
Don't take my words the wrong way, but I think Sofia picks meetings and evades. May I'm wrong but...

    1. It would depend on what ailed her. A bad headache might be just totally gone the very next day. She was out on Jan 16, then ill on Jan 18, re-appeared for the event on Jan 20. Seems to me just like such a case of headache or migraines. I am, however, quite certain she doesn't pull out of engagements lightly.

It is possible to feel ill for just one day. What makes you think that she picks and chooses what she attends? Do you have any actual evidence to back up this feeling?

Seriously, she could have a tummy bug. They last about a day. Migraine usually a day. Between the 16 and the 20 is not just a day either. Stop the nonsense.

There is no law stating that after a certain age a woman has to wear updos or granny hair. Sofia's hair is beautifully done, especially as this obviously wasn't a tiara event.

Sofia's hairstyle is simple but elegant. Much better this way than hanging on her shoulders.
Sofia looks at least 10 years younger than her age but in no way childish ;)

Such a dull look on all the Swedish royal ladies. Just look at the last picture, depressing. Queen Silvia’s dress is boring, much better when she is wrapped in the beautiful shawl.
I don’t like the nude lining of CP Viktoria’s dress. It looks tacky. Her stockings are to thick and very black. Looks like she is wearing shooties. The stockings should be really sheer and elegant.
Sofia looks completely washed out like a gray mouse. The dress is nice enough but it does not suit her.

    1. I agree with all of this. Dull colours, nothing really uplifting and cheerful. More like lifeless concrete.
I don´t like Victoria´s dress either. Too short to start with (and those dark stockings don´t help), and the design of the bodice is not elegant at all. The nude lining, that weird swirly line made of tulle, and neckline and armholes like a sports top. The skirt has potential but really needed to be floor length to be truly elegant.
I know that the Swedish princesses don´t seem to like red lipstick for some reason, but it had really helped to bring it all to life.
      Their hairstyles are nice.

One explanation for the grey/dark colours could be court mourning because of the death of former king Constantin of Greece, after all his funeral was on Monday. They were rather close relatives.
But of course this is a fashion blog, no need to obey any protocol?

  5. Superbes toutes les trois même si ma préférence va en faveur de Sofia ; très belle dans sa robe à sequins et de plus, elle porte à merveille sa queue de cheval ; délicates ses boucles d'oreilles mais j'aimerais mieux les voir !

Wow, what a wonderful dress Victoria is wearing! Love the details. And her hair is impeccable!
Sofias dress is nice, but I don’t know, it is perhaps a bit tight? it looks better on the model where it has a better fall.

À bit of colour would have been better, but all three ladies look wonderfull.
The soft colour for the Queen suits her lovely; Victoria very feminine in Battista Valli, and Sophia good in her own “ simple” way of styling.

Princess Sofia looks stunning in her evening gown, just as Queen Silvia. Elegant and youthful styles. CPrincess Victoria looks like she's attening another event with that ball dress. Weird proportions and nude inserts underneath smh look cheap.

Victoria's dress is too short for the occasion. It is a formal dinner, so the outfit would be an evening gown, and evening gowns are long, as Sophia and Silvia are wearing theirs. Victoria is wearing a ball gown, as the name says, and it would be lovely for a ball which means a social gathering for dancing. Her ball gown put next to the long dresses looks wrong, and it is wrong. For what it is worth in this world. - Ellie

There you‘re wrong, both short and long dresses were allowed at the Sweden dinner.

It’s only a black tie dinner. Both short cocktail dresses and long are ok. Several of the guests are wearing short dresses. No ball gowns, tiaras or excessive jewelry expected. Ladyofthemanor

    3. When the dress code (in Sweden) is black tie it is ok to wear long, medium long dresses even a pantsuit or skirt in a finer fabric.

  12. In the second photo, the King looks as though he is about to break out in song. He is usually so somber and this shows a different side. He and Princes Carl Phillip and Daniel look very handsome. I love the Queen's pearls, and the earrings of Princess Victoria and Princess Sofia. As far as gowns, Sofia's is my favorite; it hugs her curves and is the perfect length. Her hair is beautifully done. A necklace would have elevated her look, I think. Although Victoria's gown is pretty, I think a slinkier gown would have been a better choice. Her hair is gorgeous and the hair ornament is a great accent. All of them look happy.

  13. I like Princess Victoria’s dress but I don’t think it’s right for the occasion.
The sort of dress I’d expect to see someone wearing for an evening occasion in spring or summer. With the neckline and no sleeves, the heating would have to be good in the Royal Palace. On the podium, I’d give N°1 to Queen Silvia, N°2 to Princess Sofia and N°3 place to Princess Victoria.

Nice gowns gray 's and black. Silvia's and Sofia's gowns are very elegant. Victoria's gown is more for a younger person I think? css

  15. I love the color grey so Queen Silivia's gown is my favourite here. Lovely gown, and gorgeous pearls, bracelet and necklace. Her hair looks lovely. I am not a fan of CP Victoria's gown, it seems a bit on the short side.

I like Victoria’s gown, less fan of Sofia’s or Queen Silvia’s gown. Pity Victoria can’t have different hairstyle, it ages her a lot, even a nicely done. But everyone looks good.

All of the royals look lovely at this event. I may be in the minority, but the gray/black dresses look cohesive as a group, especially with the men in tuxes. I also like CP’s dress…it feels very appropriate for a black tie event and the details add some fun to the outfit!

Sofia and Silvia look fabulous! Sofia's gown is beautiful--very classic gown. I would love to see her add a belt to provide a bit of definition at the waist but she looks marvelous anyway. Silvia's gown is very pretty--the fabric seems to have an intricate design that would be nice to see close up. I love her shawl--its perfect with her gown. Victoria's hair is lovely--looks like she might be wearing jeweled clips in her hair. As for her dress--I think I would like it if it were full length. As it is that length is not very good for most women--it looks like they ran out of material. If the bodice matched the skirt the whole thing would be much better--even with the shortened skirt. Finally, I really wish she had worn the belt shown on the model--it adds not only definition but interest to dress.

At first glance, I loved Victoria's look - the hair and makeup are stunning and she wears black very elegantly! However, I wish the whole thing was floor-length and the bodice matched the skirt better. It's also weird to see her mother almost bundled up with a shawl and all and herself wearing a sleeveless gown - wish it was more wintery. I like Sofia's choice, but think she wears colour better. And while I love a good ponytail, I think she could've upgraded the style a bit next to Victoria and Silvia.

I am unimpressed with all dresses. It’s a missed opportunity to rewear some of their existing gowns. Also, neither Victoria’s or Sophia’s dresses fit well.

  23. The Queen should never wear grey, she is a winter toning and beautiful jewel colours on her look stunning, it makes her come alive when she wears her stronger colours. Her lipstick is too muddy she needs clear colours. What are her stylist doing to her, she is a beautiful woman.
