All look nice!! Cp Mary's smile looks a little forced or nervous while she's outside. inside, her smile turns more natural. Maybe she was anticipating some questioning about Joachims children's titles.

    1. I think Princess Mary handles this type of question very well.
She's not just a pretty face, you know.

    2. I doubt the Crown Princess was nervous about being questioned. Surely if anyone was going to be questioned, the media would have questioned Queen Margrethe as it was her decision to remove her grandhchildren's titles.
The Crown Prince and Princess look tired, most probably jetlagged and it looks to me as though the camera flashes might be irritating their eyes.
As much as I enjoy royal fashion I don't know how the various royals cope with all the cameras and the camera flashes.

  3. Fredrik and Mary look very jetlagged. And Mary´s silver gown - albeit lovely in itself - does nothing for her colouring and instead makes her look washed out. She needs some colour. Benedikte and Margrethe got it right.

Wow, Princess Benedikte looks fantastic! Great color and fit on her gown, plus she wears the stack of honor jewels the best. So beautiful, especially with her lovely smile. As for the others, Mary is pure modern elegance and the Queen is in her usual, and slightly ridiculous, outfit. Happy New Year to everyone!!

Tara, I agree with your sentiments, and do therefore not post much these days. - Please spare me all comments such as 'you don't have to come here and read them'. Whether I do or not does nothing to change the absurdity of too rich, self-elevated people dressing up to celebrate themselves and their expensive institutions. - Ellie

TO Ellie 6:04: Jewelry is heirlooms - historical gems that would otherwise sit hidden in a safe. It's nice to show them once in a while, and it looks better on a queen's throat than on velvet in a glass case.
Well, dear Ellie, state receptions are also held in countries that are republics. In my country (Slovak Republic), there was yesterday also a state reception, our lady president wore a beautiful dress and jewelry. I am proud of how this lady represents my country. I am sure that even in the USA there are state receptions and that they do not serve hamburgers and the invited guests have representative clothes.
I know there are wars and hunger in the world - when were they not? but often it is caused by the people in that country (religious, tribal intolerance, corruption...). The world can't stop for this. We can only help with our work.
PS: My husband gave me diamond aquamarine earrings as a Christmas present. I wear them with pride and without guilt. Stephanie

  8. Like all three dresses in their different ways but Princess Benedikte is the clear winner for me. Gorgeous colour, great style and lovely shoes. Agree that the Crown prince and Princess are looking tired and no wonder if they are newly returned from Australia., and that while Mary's dress is as elegant as one would expect, it's probably not the best colour to make her look wide awake!

    2. And Prince Frederik probably spent most of his time sailing.
I've done it a couple of times and yes, it's one hell of a trip. Twenty-two hours' flight, stopovers, jetlag and little sleep if you are in economy class.

Pss Bene, looks outstanding. The fit of this fabulous red gown is perfect. The red shoes are divine. The fringe tiara looks splendid.

What is so deplorable about her old fur coat? Do you also find leather shoes, handbags and belts deplorable? Do you only use plastic shoes? Might also be considered deplorable as plastic is made from oil, accelerating climate change. Ladyofthemanor

It is not "her" jewellery. The Pearl Poire parur is not part of the Danish crown jewels but is placed in a trust, and only to be worn by the queen.

She seems to have been wearing this fur cape for at least 30 years or more. It looks outdated. Well, leather shoes and leather handbags should still be used. "Vegan leather" is plastic.

You either have elegance or you don't. It can not be obtained or bought. And it does not require expensive or new designer labels all the time.

    3. I think you cannot compare the elegance of ladies with a 25 or more difference in age.

  14. Mary's dress is lovely, however the colour washes her out, too pale for her. She is a winter toning and there for the stronger colours suit her not this summer colour she is wearing, a beautiful dress. She probably has a forced smile she had no wrap or coat on and it is cold there.

Dear Ellie, I suggest you do some homework before trashing the Danish royal family. They are not even rich. They do not celebrate themselves but their country. Most jewels in fact belong to the state i.e. to the people. Danes are proud and informed people and know exactly how much their cultural heritage costs, with or without the royal family.

There are lots of people who wouldn't mind being as "poor" as the Danish royals!

      Delete
    2. Anonymous4/1/23 07:38

Talking about this is stupid and irrelevant, but when Mary flaunts her crocodile Hermes Birkin that costs as much as an ordinary person's annual salary they don't have money? Mary paid $44,500 for it. In 2018 QM was worth $40 million. In 2021 CP couple got over $3 m in salary, of this 750,000 was set aside for private use and Mary gets 10% so she alone got over $300,000. PS in 2016 Mary's bag collection was stipulated to be worth $200,000, in 5 years she had bought 59 handbags! So give us a break they are not poor.

CP Mary is truly elegant in her silver dress and beautiful tiara. Love the way there are pieces of the ruby tiara placed in her hair. Wish we could see a better picture of the back of her hair. The Queen looks her usual elegant self and Princess Benedikte ver nice. Ladyofthemanor

Princess Benedikte is the winner for me. Rich red color looks eyecatching and nicely compliments her grey hair. I like how her hair are styled to go with the fringe tiara. Elegant, graceful and regal look.
Close second is Crown Princess Mary. Although the color washes her out a bit (I'm sure it's better IRL), the style of this dress is flattering and suits her shape perfectly. Her hair and makeup look so lovely. Wonderful look.

  21. Year after year, this awful piece of fur gets its turn to be displayed... Not exciting at all to say the least. Not sure this is the best timing for this event while everyone is still involved in NY family events or has not yet recovered from NY's eve festivities.

  23. I think that people around here do not get the significance of this particular event. It's a long standing tradition in Denmark to have this New Year's Reception, and people who attend it are well aware of the timing and the history behind it. And yes, the Queen and her family are all decked out in jewels and evening gala. It is a state occasion, with government officials attending. Not wearing a tiara does not automatically make war, conflict, poverty and famines all over the world go away. All that sadly exists, whether you wear an evening gown or a burlap sack. I am sure the Danish royals (and all the others, too, for that matter) are acutely aware of all the hardship and they support people and organisations who are trying to help with it. The reason why Prince Joachim and Princess Marie were not attending is certainly their current moving to the United States. Perhaps they already tranferred themselves to Washington. Also, a New Year's Reception took place in Japan, lead by the Emperor and the Empress. They also wore gala attire as per tradition. I wish people would just be a little more considerate with their comments, if possible and when necessary checking historic backgrounds first before blurting out stuff so unfiltered on this blog.

There are photos available in the press. it also appears that Princess Marie was due to attend but Prince Henrik was ill so she stayed with him.

the pictures of CP Mary's dress do not show at all how beautiful the dress is. The light sea green with stones/sequins in several shades and individual heather colored pearls. It's the first time CP wears the dress to a gala party, only pictures are taken of her in the dress.

Just cannot understand the need to show off dead animal furs, they went out of fashion years ago, yet sadly, there are still many breeding farms, and many animals kept in poor conditions and suffering, only to have their fur scavenged for wealthy people to purchase and wear as a status symbol. jane
