Something about this dress is off, maybe the tailoring? It just looks like it doesn't fit exactly right. Maybe it's the style.

I suggest that you go to the page of the awards and read the reasons of the award. Racism as such is not mentioned there at all. (And certainly not "accusing his family".) Actually, I quote the reasons here, so you don't have to find the page yourself: "For nearly 50 years, the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award has honored exemplary leaders across government, business, advocacy, and entertainment who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to social change and worked to protect and advance equity, justice, and human rights. At the helm of major corporations, this year's laureates have prioritized equity, inclusivity, and sustainability in the workplace and the world."

    5. Dear Anonymous7/12/22 14:33, I suggest you go and read what Kerry Kenndey, who heads the awards, said the reason for the award was. Actually, I will quote her here:

"They went to the oldest institution in UK history and told them what they were doing wrong, that they couldn't have structural racism within the institution; that they could not maintain a misunderstanding about mental health."

Thank you, Paula! Very valuable contribution! People confuse headlines in the Daily Mail, for example, with reality. This publication is not objective and skews reporting toward attacks. The actual description of this award fits Meghan and Harry perfectly:

(for example, photos from the premiere of Harry Potter, or from the court with Katie Price and others.? This couple manipulates photos and therefore also facts. I am disgusted by their behavior.

@ Daniela, there are no “attacks” on the royal family. This is a click-seeking media invention. There are two people who are telling their story, who had a terrible time and were under attack themselves in the media and through leaks from the royal household every single day for years.I remember the relentless criticism of Meghan And it continues. They telling their story in the hopes that it will help others. They made their love and respect for the Queen and Prince Philip clear. They have not named the person who queried about their baby’s skin color. They have been quite restrained given the hostile campaign against them.

    11. @ 22:51: This is an interesting comment. I do think that Diana was treated unfairly and was personally disappointed by Charles not committing to her. But Meghan made this all about race, which I don´t believe for a second and which clearly cannot have been an issue with Diana (as she was white like everybody else).
Also, while Diana was the nation´s darling and very likeable, she did know how to use the press to her advantage. She is of course remembered fondly but she wasn´t a saint.
I´m not saying that the royal family is innocent of any wrongdoing. In fact, I believe it´s very tough environment to be in plus a very dubious power structure, but Meghan´s claim of racism seems as false as Diana´s claims of being hated/chased/exploited by the press.

  8. The Duchess looks lovely, but I am not a fan of this custom-made Louis Vuitton gown. I like it from the waist up but from waist down it is a fail. The ruching/pleating in front and cut of the gown IMO is problematic. The gown doesn't sit well at all. The side split in front is too high. I saw a back and side view of the gown elsewhere and it appeared very boxy at both angles. Meghan's makeup looks perfect, I love her hair back off her face. The Aquamarine ring looks beautiful. The earrings I am not a fan of. I am wondering if strappy shoes would have looked better.

Agree - the point of custom/couture is perfection. The sleeves are too long and the hem doesn't look quite right. The fabric doesn't seem heavy enough to hold the ruching/pleating in place permanently, so it kind of puffed up when she walked in between different images, giving that boxy look you mentioned. Also agree on the shoes as well.

      Delete
    2. Anon 09.16 Thank you for enlightening me. Yes, the fabric, that is a very good point. That didn't occur to me, it makes perfect sense. The puffed up and boxy look of course. That is why the gown does not fall or sit well. Great observation.

The trauma of his Mother’s early death and the lack of appropriate help left a definite mark. He developed a drinking problem. He had repeated failed relationships. He was not comfortable being the “plus one” at William and Kate’s events. Meghan was a godsend for him. He has been healthy and focused ever since she committed to him.

This dress is not good in a similar way like her red Carolina Herrera gala gown was not good: It does not flatter the wearer, instead, it forces shapes and lines on the wearer that contradict her own lines and shapes. The dress might be spectacular as a drawing on paper, but it is awkward on more than one level on the wearer. Dress wearing woman, not the other way round. (-Ann.)

Meghan looks gorgeous and happy here. She's beaming and elegant...from the waist up. Great hair and makeup. Not entirely sure about the earrings but they work. But something is amiss with the fit on the bottom and I don't like the tea length. I also do not understand why events deemed "galas" are so often far too casual. Galas should be formal, no? I suppose that now means "black tie gala."

Together they are a stylish power couple and the coordination of their collective fashion look has really evolved over time. I suppose it helps that they have always had a certain charisma together on the red carpet.

  19. Ok, enough with the awards. These galas don´t do anything for the betterment of the world. If these awardees actually made a positive impact on the world, it would show and speak for itself - no need to recognise it through an award.
These awards serve entirely different purposes, the biggest (imo) being: legitimize (otherwise questionable) causes, flatter some (already inflated) egos and generate business revenue. None of that is anywhere close to charitable work. If these awardees really wanted to do good, they´d be humble.

We can always count on you, Vanessa, to go off on a tangent, political or otherwise. To remind you for the 349th time, this is a fashion blog. Can't you please stop being so argumentative and let us discuss the fashion?

      Delete
    9. @anon.05:41: You can always count on me to not be superficial and instead always look at the bigger picture. While I enjoy fashion too, I mainly see the people behind the clothes, and in fact, the are not relevant because of what they wear, but because of who they are and what they do. The title to this blog post is "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the 2022 Ripple of Hope Award Gala" - that´s what I´m responding too. The gala itself is fair game, it is not off-topic. The discussion was never limited to fashion only, even if some of you claim that. And you will have to agree with me that you cannot even discuss anyone´s outfit without the context of the occasion.
Interestingly, no-one seem to mind comments like "they are doing a fantastic job", "they always engage so warmly with the people", "that´s such a great cause", "she is a wonderful asset to the royal family" etc. etc. - none of which are fashion comments.
I´m not going "off-fashion" more than others, but I´m not a child-like admirer of royal glitz either. These people play a not-so-insignificant role in shaping the world, and if you are at all interested in how this world is run and shaped, I suggest you look a bit more behind the nice gowns and designer labels. Do read "The Emperor´s new clothes" - it´s not about an emperor for no reason. It´s a world full of pretense that some here have fallen victim to, hence the abundance of admiring comments void of any critical scrutiny.
Sorry I´m making it hard for you to stay in your bubble :-)

I love the dress: simple ,less is more. Very elegant model. Make-up, hair. Impeccable. Meghan really has a very good feeling for fashion. Also the cream colour looks so good on her. Just a little note of critic can Meghan and Harry stop holding hands permanently.

She looks good - elegant and sharp. Beautiful.

I just can't handle seeing these photos - to me, their life is one big acting scene full of hypocrisy and lies. I have zero respect for these two, self-entitled humans that seem to be a victim of everything and anything.

She has a really great style. Love the clean lines of her dress, jewellery, hair and make up. Just don’t love her as a person. She could have been a real asset for the Royal family if only she ( and H) were teamplayers. It’s not always nice to play second fiddle, but they could have meant something …. Now they’re playing in a very bad Z-list Hollywood film…

Can people please behave like adults or is that too much to ask for? Talk about the clothes, but leave the trashing at home. Grown up should have learned how to behave. We have no idea what happened behind closed doors even if we think so. They look fabulous.

I Agree! It’s funny how everyone is pretending like Harry and Meghan are the first ones in the family to give a negative opinion /look on the royal family. Diana did it, Charles put his foot in his mouth when I did his famous interview. Pr Andrew, the Duke of Windsor, princess Michael of Kent.
So what’s the difference ? Why are Harry and Meghan so distasteful to people?? Because they are not going quietly? Obviously what was broken in the past with the royal family , hasn’t been fixed yet. So much of the same pattern repeating itself.
Just like in Dubai, so many run away princesses, the problem isn’t getting fixed.
So don’t blame Harry and Meghan entirely.

Well said. The press and the public are in need of someone to hate. If it wasn't Harry and Meghan, they would have someone else. I'm sure they have a list to choose from. They could go back to Andrew, hit on Charles for not keeping his promise to make Edward the Duke of Edinburgh, etc.

    4. Anonymous7/12/22 15:14: H&M have come to the public and want to *tell* us what happened behind closed doors, or their version of it anyway (ie "their truth"). So, we can have an opinion and view ourselves.

Because not everyone agrees that they're wonderful people. I would love them to be happy and at peace concentrating on their perfectly laudable projects and charities. It's the other stuff - some of which they are responsible for.

Megan's makeup is flawless and the earrings are gorgeous. But once again something is really off with the tailoring of her dress. I'm assuming the draping is supposed to have a sculptured effect, but on her it just looks too baggy and shapeless, while the top half squishes her upper body basically into non-existence with the neckline being too low, the bodice to short and the sleeve-panel being too broad. The colour is good and her styling is always on point, I just wish she'd find a designer and/or tailor who takes her body shape into account.

I have not seen that someone has blamed the two for leaving the country, but telling stories about the family, brother/sister in law is unethical. The RF can not say anything for defence! And the two in USA know it. Doing this gives them enorous much money. With this money they can have nice and very expensive clothes and a big mansion - and the titles from GB they will have!

Was it unethical when Diana told us the same? When Fergie did? When they told us how they we're treated? How the household worked with the press spreading stories so they should look bad. Was in unethical when Charles made hos famous interview?

  36. Speaking about fashion. She copied Princess Kate's off the shoulder dress, but Meghans clothes never fit her well. She really has no style for fashion. Their award was undeserved. Kerry wanted to do something to overshadow her sister's Kathleen award, with Alec Baldwin as MC (really?) They said they came to California to stay away from the press yet they take any occasion to be in the limelight, I wish they kept their word.

So far there's 73 comments on this post about Meghan and Harry and the most of them is comments about not liking them and not wanting to see them. No one is forcing anyone of you guys to not only click on any post about them but also commenting. You do not have to actively participate on anything relating to Meghan and Harry but you people love to comment on anything relating to them just so you can write how much you don't like them. The truth is you people can't get enough of them it makes no sense to dislike a person so much but always looking, reading and commenting on things about this person.

You know, people are attracted to oddities, scandals and tragedies. If a camera recording of a murder or robbery was shared, it would also have a high viewership. People have a natural urge to express their disapproval immediately.

She pays all this money for custom made dresses, however they never fit well. The top part is lovely, the bottom makes her look like she is in the early stages of pregnancy. They never get the style correct for her shape.

The Duke and Duchess looking elegant as usual that attracts admiration. The only comment on her attire is the well tailored ruched dress would fit her size better if the bodice had short sleeves with a higher neckline. AND makeup is not necessary with her flawless beauty. On another note, it would be gratifying to see 'Ripple of Hope' show actual end results of its mission. - One Love

Nice color gown, but something is off, just can't put my finger on it what it is. So, let me get this straight, she and Harry got this Award for slamming his family? and throwing them under a bus. Sadly, this really watered the meaning of this Award down. As one would say it is now a Dime a Dozen. It has no meaning and even less value. Sad. css

I utterly love this dress, the color is so flattering for her, the collar is beautifully designed and the lower part of the dress looks almost architectural. Hair and make up on point. The earrings bring some light to an otherwise sober style.

    1. Nice fashion analysis Cherry, I agree. The Duchess looks superb.
If the order of the day was “elegance” she did a good job in fitting the bill.
Only “nitty-picky” fashion point I’d make is that I’d like to see, what you call, the architecture, of the bottom of the gown a little simpler and longer.
Congratulations to them on receiving the award.
Just a comment to the hand holding critics.
The Sussexes are not alone in doing this.
I was surprised to see that during a recent visit (State?) by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, and in almost every photo whilst doing outdoor tours during this visit, they were holding hands.
Zara and Mike Tindall, when seen together, are almost always holding hands.
I see the hand holding by the Sussexes as a natural confirmation of their support for one another. And if you want to zap around a bit on the net, you’ll see photos (not many) of Kate and William holding hands plus other royal couples, including Charles and Camilla.

So sad that Harry married a crying, suicidal actor who seeks attention from anyone who will watch or listen. He needed a strong supportive wife to help him get over the death of his mom, who also was suicidal and tearful.

Your comment sounds as if you despise people who have problems with mental health. I really hope that no-one of your nearest and dearest will ever have mental health problems or suicidal thoughts. I find it utterly incomprehensible how much energy people are willing to spend on venting their hatred on people they don't even know. Scrolling through these comments makes one really sad. But somehow, at the same time, it's a picture of what the world has become, and that's not a beautiful or nice picture. As human beings, we should be capable of so much more. Don't let your prejudices blind you and don't believe everything the tabloids are feeding you.

@B, thank you for your eloquent response. Every time I see a post about the Sussexes I dread to read the comments. Why would the private decisions and struggles of people that don’t affect our lives should be so important for the public? I guess some have the need to judge and vent.
