On November 30, Dutch Queen Maxima opened the exhibition named ‘Royal embroidery: stitches and stories‘ at the Textile Museum in Tilburg. The new curtains exhibited were machine embroidered in the TextielLab, the professional workshop of the TextielMuseum.

Handicraft groups from all over the country and Queen Maxima have made part of the embroidery by hand in recent months. Queen Maxima opened the exhibition together with a few craftsmen who embroidered the curtains.

The new curtains are a contemporary remake of the 18th-century silk curtains from the Chinese Hall of Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague. The historical curtains were made in Canton, China. The design focuses on the Netherlands as a country of many cultures, where bridges are built and population groups are connected.

  3. I like this, colourful, fits ok though skirt hangs a little oddly and really appropriate for the event. Km

  4. I really enjoy this colour combination and the pattern mirrored in both pieces. I also think that this silhouette is very nice on Maxima - a defined waist and a fuller skirt. I think however, that a few things are off here: the material is too stiff for this cut in the skirt - it cannot be gathered without looking bulky; the hem is uneven in a way that doesn´t look intended; the hat is too much and makes her look overdressed. I never liked that sort of turban hat anyway.

Very unfriendly remark. Well, Maxima has many critics on this forum.

  6. Queen Maxima looks marvellous! What a terrific outfit to wear to a Textile Museum. Especially the skirt gives it a unique look. She looks very excited to be there, it's a joy to see these pictures. Personally, I would've chosen other, les classic earrings, but that's a detail.

  7. Though the outfit is 'busy' I love it. Beautiful combination and array of colors. The fit of the jacket and skirt is fabulous. The skirt has movement and sits well. Love the choice of shoes and clutch. Her earrings are gorgeous. She brings such joy, happiness and laughter. Always a joy to see her enthusiasm and vitality. She always appears and looks interested and motivated. Happy and smiling. She is wonderful.

  10. Even though I find this to be a busy look, it works for her (since she likes the over the top style). But she looks so much more pulled together here than she has lately.

I remember some time ago she was doing some embroidery work, she was photographed back then, we're these the curtains? Maybe this is way she looks so happy?
I agree with the fabric meets favorite comment, but this is Maxima, it suits her

Love this color-filled look on Maxima—she carries it off beautifully. Also love her gorgeous sapphire (?) earrings and coordinated heels. I will say that this woman just seems to enjoy her life—and that is a tonic to see.

  16. Magnifique tenue que je lui ai déjà vue mais à mon avis, petit bémol au niveau de sa coiffe/tambourin que je trouve trop lourde ; avec un serre-tête plus léger, elle serait vraiment parfaite pour cette occasion particulière !

You could say the clothes are inspired on the curtains an therefore a good choice.
Of course it is kind of “ overdone” but that is its charm.
    It is a nice combination,
