This dress must be beautiful in movement, so as to see how the fabric and the print work together. Pity the diamond pendant is lost in the print though.

  4. I get very excited when Charlene wears bright colours, its a rare moment. Even though, this dress is not flattering it looks like maternity wear

Agree. Although the print is nice - but the cut makes it look like -as you describe it. And one can hardly see the precious diamond because of the pattern of the dress.

  5. I totally agree with Missy amd with the fact that the beautiful pendant is lost in the print.

  6. Princess Charlenne wears lively colours and she seems quite happy..but, to my sorrow, I think....it' s quite a different happiness from other royals.

Good to see Charlene out and about, but this is not one of her best dresses. The print is a bit old-fashioned and would need a more modern cut to make it work. I prefer her in cleaner, bolder cuts and colours. And I wish we could see more of the necklace, it looks quite pretty, but can't compete with the backdrop!

Something should have been done to make this dress more a dress than an example of a beautifull pattern. It just “hangs” around Ch., making bad body-proportions,

  9. I think this dress needs a belt really badly. With a belt, it would immediately look more structured and less tent-like or maternity-like, and it would likely also affect the length problem positively. The dress is 3-4cm too long, and if it was pulled in at the waist it might bring the hem up a little bit as well.
With a dress this colourful, a belt in practically any colour would work.

Agree.....it was the wrong pattern for Charlene....

    3. I agree, Vanessa, but like Missy, I'm just so thrilled to see her in something that is not drab, dark or monochrome that I can forgive any shortcomings of the design. Also good that she looks like she is genuinely enjoying herself here.

  12. Lovely dress just made for this print and the material looks as if it flows as Charlene walks. Earrings are very complimentary, but the necklace does "disappear" , but that's okay as it doesn't interrupt the flow of the dress. Charlene's face has been radiating a happiness recently that wasn't apparent during the early days when she first returned from South Africa.

Charlene looks like a beautiful dream in the gentle watercolors of this dress! The serene colors suit her so well and remind me of a Monet. The necklace looks like sparkles in a lily pond—I actually love it against this fabric. It’s like a sweet discovery instead of bold and obvious.

    2. A nice poetic view of the gown.
After reading your comment, I took another look and yes, the print has a watercolour effect to it; and one can find a touch of Monet in the print.
I think the gown is suitable for the occasion.
The only negative point is that it doesn’t help to show, to its best, the magnificent diamond that the Princess is wearing.

  16. The print of this gown is glorious. Pss Charlene looks lovely, but I find this gown to be shapeless.

Nice dress but I think a little shapeless, but Charlene carries it off fine. The jewelry is fantastic. css.

Beautiful, if shapeless, gown--the colors and print are gorgeous. Princess Charlene looks happy and healthy--how wonderful for her and her family. I would love to see more of this diamond necklace as it is a bit lost in the print of the gown. Would also love to see her hair toned down to a softer, warmer blonde shade as I feel the platinum color is not the best for her skin tone.

  22. The award winning South African creator, Terence Bray has dressed Princess Charlene once again. He has done a lot of work in the past for the Princess.
On another site, there is a brief view of the back of the gown and it appears to have a short train to it.
I think the gown is fitting for the occasion and Princess Charlene wears it well.
Lots of smiles and both the Princess and Prince Albert seem to be enjoying themselves.

  23. That “little thing” that the Princess is wearing around her neck has been seen in public for the first time on this occasion of the Princess Grace Awards in New York.
Known by several names e;g; the Rose Diamond, the La Vie en Rose diamond, the Grace diamond.
The mine, known as the “Argyle” mine where the diamond was found is an Australian mine and was closed in 2020 as it is believed the mine is now fully exploited.
For the New York gala it was mounted in its frame by the French/German jeweler Lorenz Bäumer who traveled to New York especially to see it as it is the first time it has been shown in public.
I understand it is going to be remounted for each of the forthcoming Princess Grace Award ceremonies and will eventually be sold.
Unfortunately, the gown worn by the Princess doesn’t allow the diamond to be shown in all its “eye watering” beauty. It needs a deep, solid colour, for example, black.
If you’ve got a minute or two to spare, take a look at some of the history of this remarkable piece via ……..

  24. Deadeggs, thank you for the link. It makes the piece more interesting. I amnot so mad about the setting but the chain is beautiful. I agree it should have been on a solid background or the dress needed a deep V neck so that the whole necklace sowed up on bare skin. Like this it just got lost in the pattern of the fabric.

    1. The cut and shape of the gown is an A-FORM. Therefor there is no belt.
