On November 2, 2022, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender were received by Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

ReplyDeleteLovely look on the Empress. I love the attention to detail put into this ensemble with the lace and piping on the lapel and cuffs. This is the traditional style of the Japanese royals so there is no point in asking for something more modern as seen with western eyes.

I quite like that Empress Masako has paired her jacket with a more playful skirt, not the usual straight cut one. The German president and his wife are out and about frequently right now. Mrs. Büdenbender back on high heels, after she had some problems with her leg, foot, ankle, knee (I'm not sure what exactly it was) last year. The black (or dark navy?) dress on her might lean a tad too much into mourning attire. But as it was said before, it much looks like the Empress is representing the sun (Japan is also considered the country of the rising sun) and Mrs. Büdenbender the starry night. So, all contrast aside, they complement each other.
ReplyDeletePerfection is the ensemble of Japan's Emperor and Empress. She exudes grace and dignity. Unfortunately, the color of the ensemble looks different in each picture.
ReplyDeleteThis is one lovely skirt on Empress Masako, the golden lace and the not-so-strict cut are very smart indeed. It is true that Ms. Büdenbender's outfit looks bland, in comparison.

ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely ensemble on the Empress, with some very interesting features, very feminine. I love the dress on the President's wife Elke, its very elegant and fits well, with swish in the skirt. The pearl necklace was the perfectly finishing touch.
