  4. Well, I like all the vibrant colours, but not really any of the designs.
Eleonore´s simple and unfussy dress is the best, though I don´t care for that uneven hem. And I think it needs a belt. A little necklace had been a great finishing touch.
Elisabeth looks great in red, but her dress does nothing for her. The length is wrong for her slim figure, it elongates her torso. The slits at the shoulders look weird, as if the sleeves were just pinned on. And I don´t care for this take on an uneven hem either. Her earrings are pretty.
Mathilde looks good, but I wish she´d added a subtle belt under that draped bit. The fabric is a bit flimsy - good for draping, but not so good for the skirt part. The brooch is nice, albeit a bit big, but she´s the queen and this is their national day, and yellow is their colour, so I think it´s all good. The straw clashes with the gold, the gloves are superfluous. Her hem isn´t even either, it´s too short in the back.
The boys look great. Emmanuel has grown a lot, so I understand his highwater trousers. At the same time, you´d think that at a royal court they´d be able to organize trousers the right length, especially since he´s got an older brother who´s clearly gone through the same growth process.

There was a time that queen Mathilde wore little belts with almost every outfit. Everybody said then she should not do that and it was the fault of Natan, etc... etc... Now that she wears a belt very occasionally, you recommend she should wear one with this dress where I don't see the necessity at all. Eleonor the same. Why should she wear a belt, it is not necessary. She is only 14 and I think she don't like necklaces and things like that already. She has plenty of time to develop her own style. If the length of Elisabeth's dress is wrong for her slim figure how come nobody make the same comment when Duchess Catherine wears dresses that are "too long for her and elongate her slim torso". I do agree about the uneven hem of the dresses of Elisabeth and Eleonor. I don't like that either, I never did. The hem of Queen Mathilde's dress however is not uneven. On pic. N°3 she bows towards the altar that is what could give the impression the dress is a little bit shorter in the back. The bronze color of the hat does not clash with the dark yellow of her dress and the gloves are not superfluous. That is how queens in Belgium always have been dressed when they go to church or on ceremonial occasions. In the late afternoon and in the evening, when they will go to the bazaars and fancy fairs organized for the people and the fire works late this evening she will not wear gloves.
I think the princes only wear a suit on special occasions. Their daily clothes to go to college fit probably better than their suits. By the time they need to wear a suit again the trousers are too short and the jacket doesn't fit any more. They are not different than in other families.

    2. To belt or not to belt? Good question. I would generally agree that Mathilde looks better without a clearly defined waist because her waistline is fairly high and she looks better in outfits that are fitted but without a clearly marked waist. I still think this dress could use a belt, nothing dramatic but a subtle one that would also be largely covered by the draping. It could help to structure the dress visually and to prevent it from hanging lower in the front than in the back.
In Eleonore´s case, I think her dress is almost screaming for a belt. Again - it doesn´t need to be a statement belt, just something to provide some interest against a fairly blank canvas, so to speak.
As for the elongated torso - It certainly applies to Catherine as well. They have similar body shapes - narrow, slender, sporty. I think they should both steer clear of that sort of silhouette and instead go for something that adds curves, such as wider cuts, flared skirts, peplums etc.

@Vanessa. I just found out that Princess Eleonore did wear a jewel on her dress. It was a little brooch, representing a bee, that belongs to Queen Mathilde. Unfortunately we cannot see much of it because it is covered by her hair. There are one or two pics. where her hair lays backwards and one can see the brooch.

I really like everyone's outfit. Mathilde and Eleonore are looking very elegant. Elisabeth also, but I wish she would have chosen a different hat and hairstyle. The men are also very dashing.

Dieses gelbe tut nichts für die Königin. Auch die Prinzessinnen finde ich viel zu jung für solche Kleider, sie wirken schon immer so klassisch, ihnen würden jugendlich schwingende Kleider besser passen.

    1. They wanted all the Belgian colors to be represented incl the yellow. I very much prefer this yellow than the ultra bright one we saw recently worn by Duch of Cambridge.

What a crown princess of almost 21 years old must wear then ?
Princess Eleonor being 14 years old her dress is as simple as can be, maybe just the uneven hem is not good but that is a question of taste. What do you understand by young swinging dresses ? The dresses with little flowers are out of fashion this year. Better to wear plain dresses it is more stylish. CP Elisabeth being a young woman who is going to university in Oxford is not a child anymore. She has showed us already that she knows what she wants and that is not different for the way she dresses. She cannot show up in a pantsuit on Belgium's national day that is not the custom in the Royal family. I got married when I was 21 years old. I didn't dress like a child either in those days.

    3. Well according to royal journalist Wim Dehandschutter, the royal family trying to convey solidarity support for Ukraine. Thus the colour outfits of Queen Mathilde (yellow) and Princess Eleonore (blue) are nods for that purpose. Nice hidden message there!

Beauty all around! Such a handsomely dressed family. Belgium's pride and glory!
It's a nice touch that Elisabeth is wearing a headpiece and we know it by now she has excellent taste. But Eleonore, the youngest stands out for me.
In all it's simplicity it is perfect! This color has a warm tone and matches great with hair and skin. No earrings needed, she's a real natural.
I like the uneven hem it seems Eleonore has a more subtle one.

    What a fine looking family!
I like them all here; Mathilde looks elegant and stylish and CP Elisabet looks chic and contemporary. Princess Eleonore wears a simple dress but it fits her so well that you can't help notice her great posture which elevates her look. All the men look handsome and smart and are the perfect family companions in these photos.

Such vibrant, complimentary colors on all, each looking lovely/handsome- the kids are so grown up!
Small tweaks for me - a little less fabric on Queen Mathilde’s draping a little more fabric on Princess Elizabeth’s shoulders (never been a fan of the “cold shoulder” trend). Overall a wonderful family outing.
I don’t say anything less than my heartfelt kudos to royal kids for being in the spotlight but I will add that Princess Eleonore’s dress is my favorite- love that color (and bravo to her she looks lovely in it).

Beautiful dresses and wonderful colors from all the ladies! A couple of changes I would make: straighten those hemlines (personal peeve for uneven hems) and get Delphine a pair of elegant heels to match her elegant look.

Well Delphine is wearing the same kind of shoes she wore last year but now they are white. Maybe they are not so elegant but at least she is smart. She will not fall with those big block heels on the cobble stones of the "Place royale" (especially when they are wet from the rain that is falling today in Belgium)..

Every year at the military parade Prince Laurent's smart phone is ringing. I think it is not ringing at all, it is a habit of him to take his phone out of his pocket and listen. Every year he is (almost) falling a sleep because he is bored.

    2. I had initially also planned to comment on Pr Laurent's smart phone ... then gave up since did not want to repeat what was said last year and earlier .... I think anon 01:15 is right. Wonder what Prcss Claire thinks about it, fortunately she had a good laugh with Delphine.

@josebabe. 18:30 ADss Astrid in Belgium is called Princess Astrid of Belgium, Archduchess Astrid of Austria is a title she acquired by marriage with Archduke Lorenz of Habsburg-Este.

@josebabe. 18:30 "Princess Astrid is safe wearing the uniform, nothing can be wrong there". She cannot do otherwise, since she has a degree in the Belgian Army she is supposed to wear her uniform on the national day, just like her brothers. It is quite possible that in the near future CP Elisabeth will appear in a uniform too.

I wish to say something about Princess Claire's dress. It looks like she almost has been forgotten. I like the colors of the aubergine, light grey and darker grey and the shawl draped in her hair.

  22. Princess Delphine is a funky dresser. She is an artist.
And with her new life as a princess, I don't think she's going to change.
I expect we are going to see her, as time goes on, wearing some off beat arty creations.

Princess Delphine said immediately after she became a Princess that she will continue to paint and to sculpt. This year her outfit was rather classic and much better than last year. The white dove on the skirt of the dress symbolize peace like we all know.

  23. What great outfits. Love Princess Elisabeth's dress. She looks absolutely stunning and the shoulder cut outs stop it from being too plain, Princess Eleonore's dress is also perfect. I really like Princess Claire's outfit and Princess Delphine is a lot more restrained than some things she has chosen in the past. Pity about the shoes. I quite like the Queen's dress--great colour but there's something not quite right about the draping of the top, I feel. All the men look great. I worry about Princess Astrid who has not looked well at all over the last couple of appearances.
