I’m not sure about this outfit choice for a meeting such as this one. It would be great for sightseeing, or strolling through a market. I much prefer the tweed jacket and trousers worn by the lady accompanying Q. Max. (V.M.)

Love this casual outfit! The earrings are terrific. This dusty blue complements QM's complexion very well. (Debra)

Pretty outfit--loose, simple, and comfortable. Perfect for the heat and humidity in Ivory Coast. This is a wonderful choice to look more accessible yet still business-like with the people she is with about financial development.

Hair pulled into low pony tail would have topped off the outfit.

Love the colours and the skirt too. Yes, it’s casual but still smart and appropriate for visits like these km

I like this non-attention grabbing, modest look and even though it may seem very casual, from what we can see Maxima fits in appropriately with her environment and her colleagues which is important. I do not think she would have made her choices without appropriate consideration. I watched her arrival at the airport and she was modestly and smartly dressed for that too and definitely not OTT. Kudos for her ability to converse in French as well.

It is quite normal that she speaks several languages. She had a rather important job at Deutsche Bank before she married king Willem-Alexander. In my country every student that followed normal high school level speaks different languages. In most West European countries the language of one or two other European countries can be learned at school.

@Anon 19:26 Given that she was born, raised and educated through university level and early working career in Buenos Aires, Argentina and not Western Europe, spent most of her senior working life in New York City and only spent 10 months in Brussels with Deutsche Bank, her linguistic ability with Western European languages is even more remarkable.

Some people do learn quicker a foreign language than others. I don't know nothing about the education of students in Argentina before they go to university. It is possible she learned a foreign language or two at college.

Perfect outfit, very appropriate. The grey, blue colors are well chosen for this visit better than the bright colors she is usually wearing.

  9. Tenue décontractée, légère et confortable jusque dans les chaussures ; j'aime beaucoup la couleur de ses boucles d'oreilles !

  10. I like the colour of the top and imagine the flat shoes were necessary for the event, but they make the the frumpy skirt. It would have looked better as a pair of trousers--as Queen Mathilde wore last week.

  11. The beautiful Ivorian young lady in black trousers and printed blouse looks smart and polished. She's the winner for me.

The Q looks like a sloppy tourist, not a Queen and supposed to represent an entire nation, how disappointing. The only redeeming factor was that the colors were nice, but that was nothing compared to the sloppiness of the outfit.

What would you expect her to wear ? A coat dress and a hat with flowers ? I think for the people of these countries it is not their first concern how a queen from a foreign country is dressed. Queen Maxima is not there to give a show of all the beautiful clothes she has.

I also think the Queen should dress a bit more appropriately when in a foreign country, after all she is the Queen, not just a tourist. anne

I think it's more important for a Queen to dress appropriately to her surroundings and to be in sync with the key people she will be meeting on any give day wherever she is, than to distance her audience in any outward way by her clothing for the sake of 'representing her country'. That sort of thinking means nothing to some of the poorer countries of the world, who have more pressing matters of survival and advancement. She was dressed perfectly for the events of that day. Look here and tell me how her clothing was inappropriate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AVmKIWuvQs

Agree with you, I even don’t like the color to dark in my option.
