Ahead of Luxembourg 2022 National Day Celebrations, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa held a garden party in Colmar-Berg. The Grand Duke and Grand Duchess received residents of the town Colmar-Berg and the mayor of German town Weilburg which has been a friend (twin) town of Colmar-Berg since 2004.

The garden party is held traditionally before the national day and was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. Colmar-Berg is the site of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg's principal residence, Berg Castle.

Lovely colourful dress for Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, and I think she wears it better than the models.

  2. Not a huge fan of the dress--it's just too busy for me---but perfect for the occasion and the Grand Duchess looks great. The Grand Duke almost always looks great and this is no exception. Lovely last photo of the two of them.

Appropriate dress for a garden party at home. It suits her well. I like the colors, the fabric make me thinks of a kimono..

  4. Sorry, that looks like nightwear. You can get away with that kind of dress around the pool at a resort, but not at a royal garden party. I understand that this event is a lot more casual than the British counterpart, but I´d be embarrassed to receive guests in that getup even in my humble home.

Tend to agree with your comments, not a good look for a garden party, unless it's for adults only, and in the evening, and even then no. Neckline definitely too low, not a fan of the print, and does look like a bedroom lounge outfit.

    2. Certainly not a dress for a English garden party. But I think it's more of a casual outdoor visit to meet and mix with the people of the region (Colmar-Berg). The people are not expected to be dressed up to the hilt as one finds with an English garden party.
like the dress and the print but the front could be a bit less "open" for the occasion.

Dressing up as one is expected to at one of the Queens Garden Parties at Bucks House would be clownish at this garden party. It's very clear from the way the guests are dressed that this is a very casual, feet-on-the-ground style of meet and greet and as such, MT is dressed appropriately to make her guests feel comfortable.
She has also followed Queen Elizabeth's style in one very important respect however, and that is that she has worn something very bright and colourful so that her guests can easily spot her and move to greet her.
I've also noticed (definitely NOT in QE's style) that she likes to wear low necked or scoop-necked tops so she is being true to herself here. Perhaps it was too hot or she feels the heat more than usual on a general basis.

It is time the British learn that the rest of Europe has other customs than they have. We don't go to garden party's in a midi-dress and a flower hat. They are surrounded by local people of Colmar-Berg and its twin town Weilburg in Germany. When you look at the pictures you will see the people are dressed like tourists who came by bus. GD Mari

It's time that some people learnt that quite a lot of British do know there are other customs in Europe.

Being interrupted this morning I continue the above comment. GD Maria Teresa knows probably the tricks one can use to keep the neckline in place.

@ Anon. 20/6/22 16:58. "for adults only" ? In what century do you live ? MT's neckline is not too low. On the beach you see much more. It was safe to come with children to this party. The musicians look young too. All depend on how a person is conducting herself/himself. MT is always friendly to the people of the G.D. of Lux., especially to the children.

    9. With all respect @GD Mari, i think you're putting the boot on the wrong foot. The Brits aren't forcing other countries in Europe to use the title "garden party" I think other countries in Europe and in the world are taking vocabulary and titles from the Brits.
In fact the occasion has been called on another site an " aubade". That is, an outdoor musical event and not a garden party, British style.
See my comment further below. It is difficult word to interprete but it seems to cover a variety of outdoor musical events.

This colourful kaftan style dress is perfect for the hostess of a garden party and Maria Teresa wears it very well. She looks relaxed and at ease welcoming and mingling with her guests.

  6. I have nightwear in this style, very beautiful, but I would not wear this kind of clothes during daytime, not even at a casual garden party! A total miss

This is a nice dress, but I think it would look better on a taller women.

  9. Its a very vivid colorful pattern, quite bright, but the Grand Duchess wears this well. I personally don't like this style of ensemble, but she looks fabulous. From what I can see of her sandals, she is wearing green, bringing out the splash of this shade in her dress, looks great. Love her hair styled and cut in this way, it really suits her so beautifully. Her makeup looks lovely.

I totally agree with your comments. I especially like her hair styled like this. She looks better with a soft side bang instead of having it slicked back like she sometimes wears it. As for the dress, it is not my style but she looks lovely in the bold colors. It looks so comfortable for the warm weather.

  10. I feel like she's dressing like a much larger women. She's petite and has a lovely figure but she tends towards body or very flowing garments. That said I think she looks great in the bright colors of this dress.

I think GD Maria Theresa wears this dress/caftan well. The vibrant colors and pattern is something she can carry off quite well. From looking at what others are wearing I think this is a good choice of outfit for the event. While this is not something I would wear (big, busy prints are not my thing at all) I think MT looks wonderful.

  12. On another site they cover the same event but they refer to it as "une aubade" and not as a garden party. I don't know this word but after checking it out I found a translation saying that it is a musical concert or a serenade or generally something to do with music (often in the morning but not always)

There was a musical concert. If this took place in the morning or in the afternoon it is called an "aubade", if it takes place in the evening it is called a "serenade". If you look at picture N° 6 you can see 2 young musicians and their instruments. On picture N°3 you see people with glasses in their hands so there was a reception too. I see also a woman with a tricolor sash. She must be the mayor of Colmar-Berg.

    2. Thanks Anonymous 21/6/22 11:45 for confirming what I found about the occasion. So it wasn't a garden party it was an "aubade". I think the ladies are dressed appropriately for such an occasion. They're not trying to copy a British garden party.

The GD is so eager to look younger-than-ever, sorry, that I find it difficult to judge her, and I much prefer her natural daughter-in-law with her lovely smile and her happiness to have (finally) become a mother. Perhaps she will have more energy for fashion under different circumstances. I know many women who never regained their pre-pregnancy figure and are unhappy about the situation.

Perhaps the Grand Duchess is well dressed for this aubade, but sorry, I am not a fan of her long dress or caftan, which seems like it has been taken from the homewear or beachwear departments.
Her hair is nice, but I always get the impression that her make-up is too heavy.
