In the evening, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of The Netherlands hosted a concert at the Konzerthaus in Vienna given by the Netherlands Chamber Choir to thank the president for his hospitality during their state visit. 2. I've been a WOWer over the last couple of days, but I think I'm beginning to miss a bit of the Maximer we know with all her lumps and bumps and fashion disasters. Things will probably get back to normal when she gets back home.

Wow..that is a beautiful gown. I like the colours and the angled pattern which is matched on the gown and cape. In my view it looks much better when Maxima is standing still; when it is billowing behind her dramatically in the wind, it's a bit too much. I couldn't see anyone but this particular Queen wearing this gown - she has the bold personality and the charisma for it. This is Maxima to the nines! Good on her.

These are quite excessive clothes worn by a representative of a rather small country. But she looks wonderful. -Anna-

What is the size of the country has to do with it ? You forget that the House of Orange has always been known for their wealth. They have a big and valuable collection of jewels (belonging to the kingdom, or the state) of which Queen Maxima can choose what she wishes to wear.

You seems to forget that King Willem- Alexander is a Head of State and Maxima is a Queen, a bit the same as a First Lady.
The size of the country they represent has nothing to do with their role and their paying an official visit abroad (following a formal invitation).

Yes Simo I'am serious. Why always trying to outflank everybody while by a less pretending approach you can reach people in a more modest way. She is not going to meet Sissi. I'm sure she will remembered historical. -Anna-

      Who is Sissi, please?

      Delete
    6. I will try to help Anon, Sissi (abbreviation for Elisabeth) is a former empress of the Austro-Hungarian empire, back to roughly the end of the 19th century. She is really quite a symbol in Austria, and was considered as very elegant.

Great jewelry again--and Queen Maxima's hair is also beautiful. But the gown...too much. Max really loves a train and this gown has it, too much of it. The huge billowing of the cape and train belongs somewhere else other than this concert. To be honest, I'm not a fan of the pattern of the gown either--but the style is perfect for Maxima.

I agree with you. She's very fond of these dramatic capes but it can be a bit too much sometimes. Specially on compatison with the humble hosts.
The colours and pattern draw my mind to old german uniforms....hm.

Queen Maxima certainly knows how the make an entrance! Love it! Her gown is striking. I can't imagine how difficult it was for the seamstress to achieve the perfect alignment of the diagonal pattern across the caftan. QM's hair is beautifully done, as is her makeup, and, of course, her jewelry is stunning. The First Lady looks very pretty in her sequined pants and creamy blouse. The President and King Willem look very handsome. (Debra)

The pants of the 1st Lady are pretty with the creamy blouse but this kind of blouse must be worn under a jacket. Wearing it like that without a jacket or a shawl it looks a bit poor. Maybe it was hot in Austria but when you look at Queen Letizia in her white pant suit she is wearing also a little blouse under her jacket and it is much hotter in Spain. The 1st Lady also could have worn a blouse with long or 3/4 sleeves and then you don't have to wear a jacket. I'm not saying anything about QMaxima because everything has been said about her gala dress.

  17. È nello stile Maxima all'ennesima potenza, a volte molto esagerato con troppo di tutto.

QM wore this beautiful dress of Taminiau years ago on a state visit to France. It's an extraordinary design. A fashion statement. At the other hand ( it is said here before) I really think it's an overkill also in comparence with the rather modest presidential couple. But yes that's Máxima

Your first statement is accurate but I would turn your observation round and say that Frau van der Bellen, as hostess, could have made more of an effort with her outfits. No need for vast expense, before someone points out that she’ll not have the money of a royal. Just a bit less drab!

  23. I think she looks stunning. The dress is wow, the jewellery is wow, her hair is lovely. But I find her overdressed, and it´s all a bit much. They are visiting a republic with hosts that aren´t monarchs and therefore don´t have access to grand jewels and don´t normally have decades of wardrobe building to fall back on. Her jewellery dwarfs their hosts national order that she´s also wearing, just as she herself towers over the president´s wife. Of course, Maxima cannot be blamed for her natural height, but she can opt for lower heels, save the flashiest jewellery for visiting other monarchies and adjust to the obvious fact that the Austrian president´s wife is a minimalist dresser (to the point I find her terribly underdressed on this occasion).

I take the risk of getting the comment that I am always negative on the House of Orange, and yes, I prefer the modest chic black trousers- crème silk blouse of the President’s wife.
Máxima’s dress is certainly spectacular, but could do without the overkill of far too big jewelry.
The coiffure is to much fake for me, and I think that the hair “up “ ( donot know how that is called in English)would make the neckline much better.
Under such a dress Imwould prefer very simple shoes.
    The makeup is beautifully done.

The dress is a statement piece, coupled with over the top jewelry and the cape thing going on. It was a concert, not a 'gala' look how the other woman is dressed, in a more appropriate attire for sitting and listening to a concert.

  32. The entire ensemble is outstanding. The gown, cape and train, with her height looks especially effective, it must have made a dramatic entrance. She looks very majestic and regal. Her choice of jewels, splendid, I cannot pick one favourite, I love all of them. The diamond wheat hair pin, was a wonderful touch, it looked divine. Love her accessories. Her hair and makeup, perfect.
