I don't love this as it's a bit too much for my personal taste although I do think yellow is a colour Catherine wears well.

I will say I have enjoyed the different looks on this tour - I like how the Duchess is a little more adventurous with her clothing on tour. I've always felt she is always more colourful on the high profile tours she's done.

    1. I disagree with almost everybody's comments... I think she looked very pretty and the dress was very becoming on her. And now I don't think that makes a real fashion but I do think she tends to follow what princess Diana wore a little too much. The problem is that she is a gorgeous lady with excellent taste in clothes and her husband who notices and I would bet my last dollar that he comments on how pretty she is. I think that she dressed beautifully on this tour!

    3. I get that her choice of this dress is a nod to the ruffles in the Bahamas but I think that it is over-done - and would have been considered over-done in the 80s as well. Possibly without the floral pattern and just in yellow it would be less garish.

Daisy, having lived through the ‘80’s, I can safely say this dress would not even come close to being over-done, rich fabrics, ruffles, peplum, and bejeweled trimming were very normal on blouses, dresses, and even pants. This neckline perfectly mimics (as many did) Princess Diana’s wedding dress. As a teen, this was considered very glam and I had a few myself and loved them at the time. I am so curious if the reactions to this dress are at all influenced by those who lived through these styles previously or if they have not. I remember looks from the ‘50’s being so cool in the ‘80’s and my mom feeling like they were old-fashioned. My first reaction was it looks dated, then I read in the designer’s notes of the ‘80’s inspiration and realized it was purposefully done. It reminds me of a typical JackĂ©e Harry outfit on the American TV show 227- how’s that for a throwback:).

Having said all that, I really think she looks good in this dress, it’s very flattering on her in both style and color. Also I think probably the only places today anyone can pull this dress off is either on a Caribbean island, in New Orleans or (with a hat in spring/summer) in a church that still does celebratory/formal dress, of which there are a few.

@ Anonymous 16:25, you nailed it! And I too remember "227." LOL I guess we are of the same age. :) I always have to laugh when a Millennial talks about fashion of the 90s. They are so clueless as to how it really was. They have no idea. LOL.

  2. This is an old fashioned dress; take away the ruffles around the neck and the band on the sleeves. The ruffles around the waist gives her some shape. Lovely colors though.

Wow. I am not sure what I think about this outfit. My first thought was that it is so 80s and looks exactly like something Princess Diana would have worn. It actually brought to mind for me aesthetically some things that Princess Diana wore around her marriage and honeymoon and the first year of marriage. It is a bold choice and very fashiony and I think the Duchess looks gorgeous but also think this outfit maybe should have stayed in the 80s. So interesting! I’m on the fence about the outfit except for the white shoes that I hope to never see again. Bravo to the Duchess for such an eclectic range of outfits that have given us so much to talk about. I can’t wait to see what she wears on her next tour! Michelle

    2. When the Duchess does her next tour to a country with a hot and/or dry climate, I hope she takes a look in advance at collections from fashion houses in, for example, Florida, California, South Africa etc. Camilla seems to dress in a comfortable and appropriate way when she visits countries with hot, dry or tropical climats.
Prince Charles appears to have a good wardrobe of lightweight, summer style suits.
Poor Prince William must have been dying from the sticky climate and heat in his European suits

@ Anonymous 27/3/22 14:27. Princess Diana is starting to wear nicer clothes after her divorce. Once she wore French, Italian a.o. designers, she was a real star. And she changed from a shy girl into a woman of the world. Her hairstyle changed too from a college girl into a fresh and sporty young hairdo which was high fashion then. That's the Diana we copied not the old fashion one from the first year of her marriage.

Not true - she was considered a style icon long before her divorce. People copied her from day one.

I like the color and print. This shade of yellow looks great on Kate. The dress is over designed. Kate's hair and make-up look great.

  9. What??? This is a throw back to all that was overdone in the 1980s--ruffles, peplums, and bows galore. This is totally out of Catherine's wheelhouse--for a good reason, it should be out of everyone's wheelhouse. I hope this dress gets restyled asap because it has great potential and Catherine looks great in the fabric. Oh, and all that fussy stuff of extra fabric can be used to cover those buttons and create a new buckle for the belt. Overall, Catherine has been a total sartorial success on this trip and even though I think this dress is a mess she is somehow pulling it off, looking gorgeous in spite of the dress. I cannot wait for future tours of this dynamic duo!!!

This is an absolute no for me, there are glorious decades in fashion, but the eighties is not one of them. Is busy, prissy and frankly overdone, if anybody other than her would’ve worn this, people will be running for the salts. She herself looks physically spectacular, whether is bronzer or a little sun.

  12. I agree that this outfit is very 80's. Its a very busy pattern. I think for me personally it has too many add on's, the belt buckle, bow at neckline and frill, the sleeves full. The idea was their but over done IMO. Regardless Catherine wears it beautifully.

Only one word for this dress. LOVELY, the blue yellow theme has been evident throughout the tour, which are colors of the various countries they toured, as well as subtle hint of support for Ukraine. I quiet like this frock, it does not remind me of a certain era, just a beautiful woman in a lovely dress. They could have left the bow off, that did seem a bit too much, but otherwise, I have seen royal women wearing dresses with all types of peplums for years. Tremendous respect for Wm and Catherine for their tour, being gracious, kind, and engaging everyone they met.

I agree. We are supposed to learn from our mistakes of the past. Eighties fashion had a lot of mistakes. This dress is an example of that. It has all the over-embellishments of the decade. The fashion was not flattering, and the clothes wore us, not the other way around. I could find it so bad because I dressed like this in the 80's, and I still cringe. The eye cannot rest when looking at this dress and its dizzying array of details. It flits from one element to the next, until it finds the absurd bow hidden among the print and ruffles. It does make the trash can liner sound appealing. ~d

No problem with the 80s but this dress will be quite the opposite of elegant in any era, and this is not her, she is naturally chic hardly ever over the top, she belongs into the less is more and let her style prevail. Not everything she wears has to have us gushing, this dress is just terrible.

I applaud Catherine for stepping out of her normal tour attire ! We’ve had hits and a few misses ! But, the fact that’s she’s looking beyond her normal scope is a hit for me !
I like the idea of the yellow and white ! Not blown away by the bows & frills! Catherine is certainly looking sun kissed and that helps !
It’s been an enjoyable tour !

  24. Except for the bow at the neckline, I love this look. The yellow and white look luscious on her. I appreciate how Catherine has tried new styles. As mentioned above; some were hits; a few not so much. What I take from this is Catherine is more confident in her role and feels she can push the boundaries a bit. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, knowing that each day I could live vicariously through William and Catherine, and see things I will never see in person. Thank you.

  27. The duchess looks gorgeous. However the dress is an utter abonination, A glittery buckle, a double bow, a peplum, puffed sleeves a frilled collar and buttons that look kitch beyond belief. The only thing missing is a frilly ruffle at the hem. The shoes and white handbag I too would never like to behold again.
I don't know how many of the ladies who have commented actually lived as adults in the 80's but such as this I have never seen before and hope never to see again.
My total admiration for her usually very simple " less is more" taste has been given a severe knock. However not even this dress has managed to spoil how loverly she looks.

  28. With Kate's slender hips all peplum dresses and suits are a great fashion go to. She might have channeled Diana but so what, maybe Wills likes that... Granted we don't see ruffles nearly as much as certain fashion eras but Kate pulled it off just fine . Kudos To Kate!

A terrible choice to end a tour of tone-deaf (per Telegraph) and outrageous spending (three brand new white stilettos?? ) and actually unstylish fashion faux-pas. Well, we will certainly move away from our British monarchy

I like how Catherine has played with different styles and colors during this trip. Also her hairstyles have been different and versatile.
This dress, however, was my least favorite. There's too much going on with this dress, and its kinda old-fashioned, too old for her. Neverless she can carry it off.
I like how much more confident, relaxed and engaged she looks lately.

  31. I used to enjoy reading the comments very much. Now I open this site with trepidation. So many comments are charged with strong emotion, often negative. They are often too harsh and not even polite. There are a lot of " oh no! what was she thinking?", "she has no sense of style!", it's ugly!". Very few comments discuss fashion per se without unnecessary hot words.

Picking apart the choice/combination like or dislike of those inanimate objects indicates to me the vast differences in how individuals percieve some aspects of fashion. This is what facinates me here in this blog.

When individuals start on the persons themselves I fail to understand such vindictiveness to someone they have probably never met, never will meet and connot possible know the real truth about them.
