On March 4, 2022, Former Queen Sofia of Spain attended the traditional thanksgiving to Medinaceli's Christ at Jesus of Medinaceli Church in Madrid. There is a tradition in Spain to kiss the feet of Cristo de Medinaceli sculpture to show devotion on the first Friday of March.
Each year, on this date, one member of the Spanish royal family visits Jesus de Medinaceli Church to pray to the Christ of Medinaceli. For over 300 years, Spanish Royal Family has followed in this tradition.
Jesus de Medinaceli Church is a Roman Catholic church located in Plaza de Jesus in central Madrid. It is also called The Basilica of Jesus de Medinaceli or its full name in Spanish is: Basílica de Nuestro Padre Jesús de Medinaceli.

This purple and black ensemble looks fabulous. Love the black jacket. How wonderful to see Queen Sofia welcomed so warmly and with affection by the assembled people in the church. Her eyes are sparkling with warmth, this is so lovely to see.
