The Duchess of Cambridge looks lovely, the coat suits her well. I don't know why Catherine wears all her clothes at mid-calf length, she is young and has beautiful legs why not knee length, it would still be classy and proper!!

Another coatdress for the DoC ... where CPM looks modern, the DoC looks as if she's back in the 1960's. Somehow QM's skirt hangs uneven and it could have been 1 inch shorter, but I do like the large bow of her blouse. Because of the bow, the jacket could have done without a brooch.

I have to disagree. The white coat and opaque black hose "dates" Mary. Kate looks picture perfect and the gloves with the coat dress really seals the deal.

Queen Margrethe's skirts are always uneven because of a hip problem she has for several years now. I don't know exactly what it is but with all her short dresses and skirts you can see there is a problem with one of her hips.

so disappointed - great opportunity for D of Cambridge to shine, but that dowdy looking coat is so boring - another grey coat!?!?!?! Im afraid you cant just rely on any old thing from a good designer - as expected it looks beautifully made, but just dull and same old fit. Hair looks a bit girly too with the long soft curls for my taste, whereas CP Mary nails classic chic and polished look imo. Zed.

Exactly. Duchess Catherine : Why not choose another colour. It is the same style like her grey dress with the black velvet collar. And she has the same fit in red, blue, burgundy, etc...
Crown Princess Mary : a younger dress style less formal.

I am sure she did. What I said is that photos of it are never published. There are also no pictures of her curtsy to Dutch King when she visited Netherlands years ago, Bhutan as well.

There are old photos of Diana, Sarah etc. curtsy, but in recent history not so much, except when impossible to avoid because something is public event with cameras everywhere, like visit to Belgium when Kate curtsied to the King of the Belgians.

I remember other royal women with different titles doing following this protocol on formal occasions such as state visits.
When they have the same or similar title (see CP Mary and Duchess Catherine), they hug and kiss each other without curtsying.
When a Crown Princess or future Queen Consort like Catherine meets a Monarch, she first kisses her and soon after she curtsies.
On the fashion front ...wow, just wow!!
Catherine and Mary are both so exquisitely elegant, sylish and classy, a pleasure to see this display of high end designer pieces.
Queen Margrethe is so warm ,lovely and dignified as always.

    1. I think you´re right about Catherine´s body type. She is so slim and statuesque, and the length of her coat elongates her even more. I think she should opt for shorter, knee-length coats, ideally with some slight flare at the bottom or at least A-line in order to create some curves. I don´t mind the colour or style of her coat, it´s just not the right shape for her. I actually like the contrasting lapels and cuffs of her coat which look very classy, but unfortunately her hair covers up that feature very often.
Mary looks fabulous her. I think I would have gone for slightly less opaque tights, but it´s not a big deal.

      Delete
    2. I think I have to agree with you. Somehow these styles are just not for her straight up and down narrow hipped shape. When i try to analyse why, I think it is just the extra long length she has taken to wearing. It just does not suit her it makes her look like a beanpole.

Kudos to them both for rocking those sky-high heels on the cobblestones! That's quite an achievement on its own. As for the rest of the outfits, I am on the CPM camp - she manages to appear so fresh, modern while still classic and, dare I say, younger than DoC, despite being a whole decade older. DoC can do much better than this. Some times I feel like she tries too hard to portray a much more conservative persona than she really is just because she wants to be taken seriously as a future queen consort. We have all noticed her total almost-overnight shift from skinny jeans and miniskirts to buttoned up maxi dresses and coats. CPM on the other hand is the living proof that you can be serious, professional, classy without resorting to dowdy and boring looks, she has really mastered the modern-classic style like nobody else (Letizia is the only other royal that comes close, with a few exaggerations here and there)

Waiting to see the photos from the joint engagement in the afternoon, maybe they changed outfits and hopefully DoC sported a more exciting look.

Beyond the fashion, I am really curious to see what concrete results and/or cooperation will come out of this visit. Maybe we will hear more in the near future.

So only certain opinions shall be expressed. If that is so, you should only write when you LOVE it, I believe I have seen some of your comments disliking some styles. 1. I noticed that straight away as well. C.P. Mary is a lot taller than I thought. Maybe she usually looks shorter because most of the photo's we see are amongst the Danes and they are very tall as a nation so she usually looks about average height amongst them.

Kate looks better in stronger colours why they dress her in drab colours I do not understand, I know it is winter but ladies wear the colours that suit your complexion.

Kate fell back on her tried and true "safe" style. I would have loved seeing her try something a little different, especially while visiting Mary, who doesn't adhere to a "uniform". While there is nothing wrong with impeccable tailoring, wearing a variation of the same style is tiresome. I much prefer Mary's coat for it's unique look and retro vibe. What I don't like are opaque tights with pumps. It is my personal preference. It is the only problem I have with Mary's outfit. I think Kate's style is stuck. Her hair could use an update, and while her figure makes it possible for her to wear so many things, she is choosing styles that make her look like a stick figure. Shortening her hems and creating curves with her clothes are a good place to start. I agree with those that said Kate appears older than her years. Clothes can make such a difference. A final note about Margrethe's hems. I am surprised that her clothes are not tailored to disguise the difference in her hips. It would be very simple to hem her dresses and skirts to be even with the floor to disguise the problem. Then again, she may not care at all and have a "take me as I am" attitude. I can admire that.
I am looking forward to hearing the outcome of her visit. Kate has championed such a great cause, and I hope she is able to make a tremendous impact. ~d

@W.W. Margrethe is elderly and has a medical condition. She has earned the right to be comfortable. She still makes a tremendous effort when it is called for. I don't comment on her or any of the older royals much because I think at a certain age no one is about to make any changes. They have a style and they stick to it.
Maxima is a young queen and can do better. She has no good excuse for turning out in dreadful clothes that don't fit or suit her body. If you are going to spend money on clothes, they might as well be the right ones.

Since you find my thoughts so boring, feel free to skip right over them until you have mastered reading comprehension. Really shouldn't have to rehash Margrethe's hip ailment and emphasize her age to explain my comment. ~d

the idea that QMaxima "can do better" and that she has dreadful dresses is just y o u r opinion.
      Mine is different.
And i find boring that any time under her pics, people complain about her hair. Maybe she too has a medical condition. Or shall we presume that you are informed about all the royals state of health?
Last thing: if "i must master reading comprehension"you for sure must take lessons of politeness.

      /W. W.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous26/2/22 00:35

@W.W. You have made some assumptions that are not true. My opinion that Maxima has, for the most part, an unattractive and ill-fitting wardrobe is not just my opinion. The vast majority of the comments lean in the same direction. If your opinion is different, sing it loud and proud. That is what everyone else does. It doesn't make either one of us wrong.
I don't know why you have brought up Maxima's hair with me. What do I have to do with your "bored" state regarding the reactions to her hair? I don't comment on her hair. I have made several statements about it over the past years. I cannot see any point in repeating the same thing over and over again. Likewise, I don't usually comment on repeat outfits, unless I really liked them the first time, or I can't remember if I have previously commented. I have also suggested her hair could be suffering from a medical condition. I believe I said that twice in the past. How did you make the leap to, "Or shall we presume that you are informed about all the royals state of health?" You went somewhere I never did, and dragged me along with you. You can check back and see my most recent comment regarding Maxima's hair. It is under the post of Maxima and W-A greeting the Olympians. "In keeping with my personal rule about not commenting on her [Maxima's] hair unless it is a good hair day, what great hair!" BTW, I also liked what she was wearing that day. I am not anti-Maxima.
Regarding your last comment: I stand by my statement that your reading comprehension is lacking. As I have shown above, you included me in a group of people that bore you over Maxima's hair, yet I made the above statement about her hair in the same visit to this blog as I made the comments about Kate, Mary and Margrethe. As for politeness, I do not recall responding to a post of yours by telling you that you are "boring". You are welcome to be as bored as you please. It is just one of those things we teach our children to keep to themselves lest people think them rude. In my experience, if a person finds something boring, they avoid it. I must confess that I am thrilled to discover that I have this previously undiscovered ability to draw someone to something so undesirable. If I had only known this while I was bringing up my children!

      Agree Janet.
Q Margrethe is such an exceptionally talented and highly intelligent lady who just radiates warmth. I am sure meeting her felt a bit intimidating, it would for me. Her bow is a bit OTT but it is Queen M. Lovely outfit, great brooch and I actually am a bit impressed she doesn’t have the skirts tailored to hide her offset alignment. It shows her commitment and endurance (in her 80’s) and may encourage others who are unable to hide something to live their lives boldly- like P Eugenie and her scoliosis.

Same with CP Mary who other than changing the opaque tights (which after being on the fence I am giving in to my latest leaning about not liking such tights as much- the less opaque/sheer ones scream 1980’s for daywear so at least she didn’t go there) looks lovely too.

For D Catherine, a very intelligent woman herself, in her lovely coat dress, gloves and bag she look great too. I think she puts in a little bit more refined looks to show her respect in more formal situations- I like it. She’s meeting a monarch Would have loved a color besides gray (especially in winter) but I agree with those who saw a 40’s look- those lapels.

I also agree about the ladies’ very worthy programs and the overlap which occurs being a net benefit which I truly hope it brings.

  21. What a marvellous visit. Both Royal ladies looked lovely, to a certain degree they have different styles and I appreciate that. CP Mary looked very chic and stylish, the scarf over her shoulder once outside, I love this. The grey earrings (looked to be on my computer screen) are a marvellous size, beautiful substantial sized pearls. I liked the length of her dress and coat. Her dark stockings and shoes, I prefer this look. I do love the style of CP Mary's hair, it is well groomed but free flowing, the perfect length, to enhance her face.
Duchess of Cambridge looks lovely in her CW coat, looks to be black dress underneath. Her gloves and bag, divine. Catherine's hair I remember back in the day, before the first wave of Covid hit I think, she had it near to the same length as CP Mary's hair and it looked splendid. At some point hair can grow too long and it is difficult to maintain, control (speaking from personal experience) or at least style well, its okay if its a up style, but left out, it can be problematic, the overall appearance is spoilt, but that is just my personal opinion. The Queen looked wonderful, I love her colourful blouse and tie against the dark blazer, beautiful

I agree again with your comment, Ava.
As to long hair, I have to say you are quite right as I am experiencing the same situation.
You see, when hair is a dark colour and long (like Catherine), you have some problems to mantain it, but dyeing can be done only on your regrowth and you can postpone the overall treatment for a while.
More issues arises when you have blonde hair, which are the most difficult to maintain.
This is my hair, as I am a naturally dark blonde but I prefer fairer shades, such as champagne or platinum highlights.
This kind of treatment needs a lot of products and constant cure ,because on the one hand I have to tame my long hair and keep it off my face at work and on the other hand I have to use toning products to avoid bad yellowish effects on the bleached parts of my hair.
As to Catherine's and Mary's outfits ,I like them very much, this is timeless elegance, really exquisite,
      The Queen is beautiful too.

To almost all people my saying " bye" did not mean that I was going away but simply" I do not want to reply any more .End of discussion for me"
As @~d already said in her so well articulated comment, reading comprehion is lacking in some pointless comments, so all your subsequent blathering does not come unexoected to me.
Now, carry on alone if you want .
    Sorry for you.
You should realize at some point that people do not want to interact with you anymore.

P, you surely love the attention, your dramatic statements are just a little juvenile. The fact that somebody pointed out that your hair is irrelevant to this blog, shouldn’t provoke such huffing and puffing, just put on your big girl pants and recognize that such subject isn’t interesting, and move on. Also telling people that you don’t know , how others won’t interact with them is assuming a bit much. This is just a blog about royal ladies activities and fashion, no the P blog.

  30. I don't think Catherine's coat dress is one of her best "looks" in my opinion it appears very 80s and very much like something the Princess of Wales would have worn.

I have always loved Mary's white coat and yet again I think her ensemble is elegant, stylish and timeless.
