I've never written it before with respect to how QL's dressed, but today a big no from me. Although it's something different for the queen, in my opinion, this tunic is best worn by a teenager combined with tights or a pair of panties, but certainly not with tight pants.

  3. I almost always love QL's outfits but this one is a firm no. The pants are the problem. They just aren't professional for this particular meeting. Paired with the right skirt or pants this coat could be nice but not with these pants.

Completely agree. The coat is a different look but I think a playful fun one for visiting children.

  4. No an appropriate outfit for a Queen during a work function. Skinny leather slacks and heels are great for her private time with friends and family. Beautiful clothes but not for a working Queen - IMHO

Letizia can wear whatever she wants, there is not protocol in Spain about It, only for military events or gala diners, two or three in the year, she has a salary to manage, know by the people. Her role is more as a diplomatic with a salary, by the way, almost the same for the last 5 years.

      'Parisian' outfit ?
Maybe for catwalk models, twenty years younger?
A lot of QL's outfits are Hugo Boss and Carolina Herrera but not all are suitable for her age and status .... just saying.

    6. @ Kris.."just saying". ..as you were Someone or somebody will hear you.. .. Carolina Herrera speaking...her age? You must not have her body, you could never wear them....twenty years younger? I am 52 and I can wear my daughter's clothes and I wear them...38 size...envy?

That's right, she can wear catwalk models twenty years younger. Can you? Obviously not. In Spain we dress like that. We eat well, do exercise and take care of ourselves, that's right in some places at 49 they come across 60 and must dress as a nun.

No, no, no. How old is she ? It looks childisch. The coat like it is presented by the model with a skirt o.k. She should stop wearing those skinny leather pants in public. It make her look cheap.

Really? Are you a citizen of her country to say that? "Stop wearing"? Cheap? I think they are fashionable and worn for women in her 50s even, obviously you need her body.

    2. Agree. Ugly outfit which looks cheap and unflattering. Queen Letizia can do so much better.

    5. I think the aim of this blog is to share opinions, not to express disapproval injunctions towards the royal ladies, in case of dissatisfaction by the reader. However if we apply the highly recommended "less is more" principle I would prefer more classic pants with that coat.

@Angelina: Is this outfit is avant garde Yes! Cheap no! look again at the different fabrics and the work that went into the fringes etc. When a pattern is not just cut from a template and involves actual handiwork it is never cheap. Design houses would never devalue their brand by offering such merchandise to sucha prominent person. Many of us would also love to know where cheap leather pants are for sale. Do not ridicule yourself trying to ridicule others.

While I always think Letizia looks great in leather/leather-like pants I am not a fan of this jacket. Good for her to wear the leather look even as a queen!!

  11. This top has many facets. Its unusual and quite nice at certain angles, its obviously for acquired tastes. Its very fresh looking and chic. The pants well, Its about personal preference really, the Queen likes and feels comfortable with this look. Love the colour of her shoes and clutch.
A wonderful visit, the little children are delightful. Taking orphans of the military under its protection, supporting them, what a marvellous patronage and operation. It must be terrible not to have a living relative to take a little one such as these adorable children in to care for them. We don't know how lucky we are.

While this may not be my favorite outfit, I think is chic and trendy, and being that she was meeting with children, I can imagine that she wanted to wear something fun. What never ceases to amaze me is how many readers think this is horrible, and then I see a post of P Ann wearing a terrible, governess kind of outfit along with an awful hairdo, and people seem to like it…. Just wondering.

I know this is a fashion blog, but I often happen to praise more the aim of a royal lady's visit than her outfit and this is the case.
Q.Letizia interacting with these precious children is wonderful, no matter how her clothes look like IMO.
She could have done much better, yes, but I think her first thought was to approach these kids like any lovely caring mother would do and she was so successful in doing this!!
Her ensamble is easy going and nice.
    Very well done, Q. Letizia!!

I have gotten to the point of watching and waiting to see what comes out in the comments. I am getting pretty good at predicting what is going to be said. Letizia wears almost all of her clothes well. She has a very good sense of what she can wear and what looks good on her body. She dresses in a more trendy style which I will always appreciate. Unless they are elderly, I can't stand seeing royals getting stuck in a comfortable rut or conforming to an imaginary rule of dress. That is giving up and losing oneself. With Maxima and Mathilde, as much as they try, they do not know how to dress their bodies. Add a design house that doesn't guide them to better designs or insist on tailoring to their needs, and they have more fashion misses than successes. They are both capable of looking good all of the time with the right clothes and have the resources to do so, yet continue to fail. Kate is an example of someone with very different taste privately than she has while on duty. When we get a glimpse of her on her down time shopping, she is dressed in age appropriate clothes, which are more in line with who she was before her marriage. When she is on duty, her clothes can be too old for her age, too serious, and very much like a uniform. In short, very BRF. She looks her best in clothes that are more age appropriate. She can go too young as well, like when she wears her Peter Pan collars and kitschy sweaters. She certainly can't do anything to damage the reputation of the firm by dressing more to her liking. I wish she would. Back to Letizia, for the most part, I love her style. I love her pants here. I would have preferred the jacket be one fabric, and I like that she did have the fringe down the placket shortened. Still, she is wearing a 2015 design after all. The comments about her clothes not being appropriate for this visit have me wondering what is supposed to be appropriate according to those who think they know. One of Camilla's dressing gowns and her black boots? She has made a connection with the little fellows, and that is what is important, along with the support of military orphans. ~d

@anonymous 23:57, why must you be so rude? People are just giving their personal subjective and respectful opinions. Your response should be applied to every single comment, so you should ask everybody that writes here with the same catty remark
(So you think you know best?) . I do believe in disagreeing with different assessments in fashion, otherwise we would be wearing uniforms, I don’t see any constructive critique on your comment, just a childish attack on a blogger that is actually a very well articulated opinion.

@ CB. Am I rude ? Because I wrote "And you think you know best ?". Well "d" wrote about the same in one of her/his last sentences "according to those who think they know". Do you wrote to "d" the same than to me ? Or do you know this blogger personally and is he or she allowed to express his/her thoughts and the others are not ?

Well, anonymous. Reporting back to assure you that I do not know CB or any other person on this forum. I just like to comment on fashion. I happen to know and understand fashion more than some due to working in the industry for a time, a study of fashion, and I approach my opinions from the view of what styles suit each body. I also like to see women and men change with the times. There is a way to be age appropriate when doing so. I appreciate an open mind when discussing fashion, and do think some are closed off when it comes to new styles. We never have to like the same things, and shouldn't, but it is alright to acknowledge that a style looks okay on a person while you would never wear it yourself.

If you are going to quote someone, please don't cherry pick phrases. The sentence is, "The comments about her clothes not being appropriate for this visit have me wondering what is supposed to be appropriate according to those who think they know." My question still stands. What was appropriate? There were a lot of comments against what Letizia wore. What should she have worn? If you sign your name, it will be easier to follow you. ~d
