Buckingham Palace has released new photos of Queen Elizabeth as she prepares to celebrate her 70th year on the throne. The new photos were taken before The Queen left for Sandringham, to mark her Platinum Jubilee in the place where her father, King George VI, passed away in his sleep in the early hours of 6 February 1952.

On February 6, Queen Elizabeth will become the first British Monarch to celebrate 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

Last month, just before The Queen headed to Sandringham, and ahead of the moment her reign reaches 70 years, The Queen was shown items from past Jubilees including special mementoes from her own historic anniversaries. Those items included handmade cards sent in by children to mark the Golden Jubilee of 2002. The items have been saved in the Royal Archives at Windsor Castle for posterity.

  2. Oh, how lovely the Queen looks in this beautiful shade of blue. The three strand pearl necklace and earrings are so elegant. Love the double aquamarine brooches, simply stunning. I really cannot recall or know of anyone so outstanding and as marvellous as the Queen. She is a real treasure. Congratulations your Majesty.

I do not know why but your comments mirror exactly what I think about royals, so that I do not even need to add almost anything!!
Yes, congratulations Her Majesty for such a noteworhy milestone!!
Her smile is always so charming and lovely, no matter all the years which have gone by since her enthronement.

    3. I would echo everything you say, Ava. However, her weight loss and increasing frailty are very obvious in these photos which is saddening. Let's hope and pray that she remains well enough to enjoy the events of her jubilee year.

I agree wholeheartedly. She sets an incredible standard for duty and still manages to radiate joy. The dress is a beautiful colour, and I adore the brooches. (V.M.)

    5. Ava, your comments are summed up so nicely. Her fragility is highlighted here, but the occasion seems to overshadow this. What an overwhelming accomplishment for HM the Queen. Congratulations to her.

I admire her, devoted service without complaint for 70 years! One of a Kind.

She has really aged this past year! I don't know if its weight loss or she has given up on bras but her bust has dropped recently.

Her dresses have not a good cut for a lady of her age. The blue dress she is wearing today has the same cut as the red dress she wore with Christmas last year. (Same seams on the same place). She has lost weight also, look at the bracelet (of her watch?) on her left arm, it almost falls off.

I wish you ladies would stop talking about the Queen's breast, yes it has dropped, it is a fact of aging, she is 96 and believe me, if you live long enough, it will happen to you also. I think is is rude to say that the Queen has 'given up on bras'..

  5. HM looks so happy and beautiful in these photos! Her smile is so full of joy--and that is treat to see. Love that her doggy interrupted her trip down memory lane--you can tell she loves her dog. And, she is wearing her beautiful aquamarine clips--a lovely reminder of her parents as they were an 18th birthday gift from them. It is really wonderful to see her!!!

      Thank you, Janet.
I didn't know the Queen's superb aquamarine clips were a gift from her parents.
      How nice!
      The doggy is adorable.

I like the cozy chair too, looks like it's a well-loved piece of furniture. HM looks frail but happy nonetheless. Glad to see that she still has dogs.

  8. The Queen is such a good role model for all of us, especially those of us who hope to live healthily and happily into our 8th and 9th decades and beyond. If she feels unwell she doesn't show it. I realize that her station in life is privileged and she receives the best of care, but her life has not been without major sorrow, disappointment and pain, but she carries on. I think these pictures are marvelous, and I think she is beautiful. I hope her Platinum Jubilee is without controversy and filled with joy.
