Today, on January 21, Princess Ingrid Alexandra celebrates her 18th birthday and thus comes of age. Much of the planned celebration has been postponed due to the current situation of the pandemic. In the original plan, her coming of age was going to be celebrated with a gala dinner at the Royal Palace in Oslo and she was going to wear a tiara for the first time. It is a Norwegian tradition that the royals receive their first tiara on their 18th birthday.

Such a beautiful young lady and two wonderful parents (and grandparents) as well. All are dressed beautifully; the simplicity of design, and monotone colours of both mother and daughter's dresses are stylish and chic with an air of simple authority.
Sad that she wasn't able to have her coming-of-age banquet dinner and wear her tiara, but I'm sure the opportunity will arise in safer times.
    Happy Birthday Ingrid Alexandra.

So good to see that Ingrid continue the NRF reuse of clothes. In her interviews we saw her using MM pink top from 2006. On her new photos MM Lavin dress from 2004 and here her mums Alexander Mcqueen dress. Looking smashing in everything. She's so gorgeous. On another note. Some food for thought for us the readers of this blog. We often see kids being trashed about their weight and there clothes and so on. Comments like it's not a problem they don't read what we write. are being used as defence. I beg the difference. In interviews made public today Ingrid say and I quote;- Does the Princess read what is written about her? - yes, of course. There is a lot of sosiale media and such. It is impossible to shield yourself completely. And I read quite a lot even if I shouldn't says Ingrid Alexandra. End Quote. So knowing what we now know. Can we please behave like grown ups and stop talking down kids. They are sensitive being with feelings. We don't have to let or nastiness be a burden on their psychic.

I preferred much more the other pictures published on this site the other day. This time the white dress, the black stockings, the hair, the whole look doesnt convince me.
The black dress is on the contrary very nice and she looks gorgeous.

    1. This white dress is ok to me, I am surprised to read now that it is also a dress from her mum, the Lanvin black dress is wonderful. Based on this occasion I very much prefer her with free hanging hair rather than this pulled back hair. These have been two marvelous days !

  5. She is a very beautiful young woman. I wish her a happy birthday and I hope she will grow into her role smoothly.
Regarding fashion: I´m noticing her mum´s trademark combination of white skirt and dark tights. I have never liked this combination but I think that the dress itself is pretty. The youthful cut and simple design is just right for the occasion.
I´m also noticing Ingrid often placing her feet facing inwards which unfortunately has a negative impact on her overall posture. It´s not too late to correct this, but I´m surprised that she hasn´t been told this. Older generations placed a lot more emphasis on such things.
Mette-Marit and Haakon look both proud and worried - seeing her little girl now all grown-up into a beautiful young woman and at the same time knowing about the duty, the pressure, the scrutiny that she will face. I can relate to that so well.

    1. The feet posture could be an anatomic issue. Even if some people started directly after their birth with an orthopedic treatment, and after years still wearing special orthopedic insoles... and everything seems fine, you will see this posture when they're wearing pumps or highheels. Whatever the reason is, sometimes we have to accept the smaller non conformaties. (Rolemodel Princess Eugenie)

  8. Congratulations to Princess Ingrid Alexandra. Isn't it lovely to see the pride beaming from her grandfather and her parents.? The black dress is gorgeous on her and the white dress is nice but I can't like the combo with the black tights. It always looks strange to me no matter the wearer. She has wisely gone for a more formal hair style for the more formal occasion but let's hope it doesn't become a default like her cousin Victoria. :-) Meeting all these dignitaries.! What a daunting event for any eighteen year old, no matter how composed Really look forward to seeing, eventually, the photos of the gala and her first tiara.

    1. I an looking very much forward to see pictures from the gala event later on. I hope that she will be given the diamond tiara after late Queen Maud
As she is not just a princess, but a future Monarch and Queen, she should IMO be given a historical and great tiara!

  14. She is a beautiful young lady, and in the black dress she is gorgeous. She looks nice in the white dress too, but. as others have mentioned, I think the black tights detract from her overall look. I hope we get to see her in a tiara very soon. Will she be given one from the royal collection or will she be given a new one? I can hardly wait to find out.

  15. What wonderful occasion for the proud parents and grandparents--Ingrid Alexandra is lovely young woman who has such presence! I like the simplicity of the outfits she has chosen--they are all perfect for her (and that she raid's her mother's closet is great). It will a very exciting day when the gala portion of ceremony can happen and we can see her in a tiara and evening gown for the first time!

  16. I think she looks lovely both with hair tied back and loose, with a black dress and a white one. The black stockings with white dress look OK when she is sitting in the formal photo's but I agree it is a bit of a heavy combination and does not quit click.
What I just can not get used to are the much shorter suit jackets that men are wearing these days like that of Marius. Price William does too and to my elderly eyes they always look like they just grew out of their clothes. I feel the same about ankle length narrow trousers with high heels on ladies. I almost never find it attractive not even on Letitia.

  18. Looking again at these nice pictures, on pic1 we can see the seat offered to her; I am afraid this seat is a bad choice; couldn't the organizers offer her a normal seat? This looks childish to say the least.

    1. I am sure that chair is very significant and has especially been used. Look at its seat it is not that much lower than the other chairs but the chair is special. The king has a very ornate crown and carving on his, the crown prince also has a crown on it but with less embellishment. Ingids chair is also gilded and has something in the middle on top but I can't see exactly what. All the rest have much simpler chairs
Perhaps a Norwegian contributer to this blog can tell us.

Sometimes it's better to say nothing at all Mary. The reason she has another seat then the others is because she is there as an observer in the occasion of her birthday. She will not take seat at the table until she becomes the crown princess.

  19. She is a very impressive young lady. She seems incredibly well adjusted and self confident in a lovely humble way. Her parents have done a simply marvellous job raising her into the woman she has become. You can see she is really going to do well. She is a beautiful looking woman.
