Official royal hunts in the Danish state forests take place every year during the hunting season, which starts on October 1 and lasts until mid-January. During the ceremony, it is traditional for the yield from the hunt to be read aloud, followed by a toast to the hunters. Fredensborg Palace was built as a hunting seat for King Frederik IV.

It looks cold and windy near Fredensborg Palace. They are dressed according the circumstances. Nothing special.

  5. It's hunting. Yes, there are dead animals, but unlike cattle in a slaughterhouse, which is a thousand times worse, given stressful transportation and all, the deer and roe and wild boar (and any other game for that matter) had a good life in the forests until some hunter came along. Hunting is also needed to have a significant amount of damage control (wild boar can do a lot of excessive damage, as can deer to younger trees and plants) in the forests. I understand that people dislike hunting for several reasons, but having animals slaughtered in any other fashion is just so much more despicable. Hunting also is part of royal traditions and privileges, as monarchs owned huge parts of woodland, amongst other land, of course. As this is a fashion blog, we perhaps should just move on...

  7. We all remember the killing of dolphins in the Faroe islands.... Instead of smiling the future queen should take position against those slaughters...

I agree with DSC. These days the hunting is controlled. There is only a certain amount of animals that can be shot each year. The meat of the deers and roes is eaten by the owners of the land and forests. This time of the year you can find meat of wild animals at the supermarket beside the steaks and chops. If you are against the killing of animals you must become a vegetarian and not eat beef, porc, chickens, fish, oysters, etc...
A wise man in the past said, if the human being is not eating the animals, there will be so much animals that they will eat the human being.

Apart from the awful side of hunting I do like the wintry look of the fashion. ACP has asked about the shawl my guess is Zara but that's only a guess. Mary

I'm not talking about dolphins you are. Besides I never saw dolphin meat in the meat division of the supermarket. If you are not a vegetarian you eat meat from animals. These animals must be killed before you can eat them. So what's the point ?
Me to I'm against the killing of animals for pleasure. But that is a different discussion.

As a choice I would never hunt, unless I was starving. Hunting is beneficial for nature when controlled and the meat is used for consumption. I won’t get into the discussion as to why nowadays is more a target practice and male bonding ( generally) . The pictures of these Royals reminds me more of privilege and decadence, but hey, that just my perception.

Killing animals as a hobby and celebrating beside the cadavers like beside some enemy combatants is disgusting in deed. So sad to see. The hunted animals may have had a better life than those bred in meat production plants, but that's not an excuse. You don't justify killing human beings on the grounds that they have had a free life, either. But I believe the Danish royals are sadly not the only royal family still killing animals as a pastime. I wish the younger generation would lead as an example and stop this backwards "tradition" once and for all. And yes, I am a vegetarian, been since 1986.
