Buckingham Palace announced on Sunday morning that the Queen would be absent from the service at the Cenotaph due to having sprained her back. The Queen had confirmed that she will not be present at the annual event organized by the Royal British Legion forces charity, after doctors advised her to rest for two weeks. But she had said it was her firm intention to attend the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph the following day.

  1. The Duchess of Cornwall, the Duchess of Cambridge, and the Countess of Wessex are all beautifully attired and look perfect for the somber occasion. It is hard to not see HM on the balcony but, given that she has sprained her back, it is very understandable that she could not participate. I cannot imagine how hard it is for her to have to miss today's ceremony.

Concerning HMQ had to miss the service! Praying for her continued recovery! I’m sure its just me, but I thought the ladies looked a little more somber than usual, which of course will be out of concern for HMQ!
Sophie looks lovely. I don’t know if Catherine’s hat would have been better placed with a coat, rather than the AMQ suit. It looked like it belonged to another outfit.
Camilla looks lovely. Love the feathers. Ana

I think they will be concerned about the Queen and probably also remembering Prince Philip.

    3. I thought the royal ladies seemed even more sombre than usual. I am hoping it was because this is the first Remembrance Sunday since Prince Philip's death but fear it may be that they know more about the Queen's increasing frailty than we are being told at the moment. All appropriately dressed

Agree regarding the expressed sentiments. Elegant outfits, such personal remembrance touches too with the Duchess of Cornwall’s regimental badge (her father’s regiment) and the Duchess of Cambridge’s Bletchley Park poppy (her grandmother’s WW2 service there).
Regarding the Duchess of Cambridge’s hat and this McQueen coat, I preferred this hat rather than the smaller one from 2018. Not crazy about Sophie’s fascinator either but I think I prefer more of a hat for events like these. I also wasn’t sure about Duchess of Cornwall’s quite large feathers but these (I think black ostrich) are a very traditional British Remembrance look.

Reading far too much into it. They always look like this. Maybe its bittersweet because there is no Queen or Duke of Edinburgh.

  6. These are very powerful pictures; they all must have felt the Queen's absence keenly. It feels a little like a change of watch within the royal family; it's now Charles' and William's generation who are preparing to take over.
    I wish them all well.

  9. They all look very elegant.
However something is miss, someone is missing the Queen.
I think reality is hitting them, that she will not be around for ever.
I miss not seeing the Queen on this site, with her lovely bright outfits and her beaming smile.
I do hope she is feeling stronger soon.

Everyone looks good. Camilla's earrings are gorgeous. I really like Sophie's coat. This isn't my favorite coat of Kate's but it is appropriate for the occasion.

    Beautiful outfits, well put together.
I have a feeling more sombre expressions are partly due to the loss of Philip and Queen not being there this time. So much have changed.

Sadly Kate's hat looks like a lamp shade; as we say what is with the dog collar? as you would note the clergy wear these to note their religious affinity. The occasion is solemn; all lives lost are important. May Her Majesty soon return to good health.

I think the Princess Royal needed to have stood in for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, they have reduced their own protocol.
