On October 15, 2021, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain presented the 70th edition of the Planeta de Novela Award at the National Museum of Art of Catalonia in Barcelona. The award is given in order to promote authors who write novels in the Spanish language. The Planeta de Novela Award was created in 1952 by José Manuel Lara and at that time, it had a prize amount of 40,000 pesetas. The Queen wore a dress by Felipe Varela.
Since 1952, the Spanish publisher Grupo Planeta presents the award to an original novel written in Spanish. It is one of about 16 literary prizes given by Planeta. Financially, it is the second most valuable literary award in the world after the Nobel Prize for Literature with the winner receiving €601,000. In terms of a single book prize, it is the most valuable in the world. Each year, the award is handed over on October 15, St Teresa's day, because Teresa is the name of Lara's wife.
This is the only really ugly dress that I've ever seen QL wear. Even her lovely figure and perfect posture can't save this disaster. DIQ

Love this dress. I'm not sure if it's beading, embroidery or just a print, but it is gorgeous. Queen Letizia's eye makeup looks fantastic. I like how she never over does the jewelry.

Letizia looks beautiful. I am particularly fond of the neckline on her. The color placement on the dress gives her a very proportional look, not that she really needs help. The fit is exquisite, the length is perfect. ~d

حذفThis dress is a work of art. The design, the hours of needlework for the beading, and that it seems to draw inspiration from medieval clothing are what makes it special. It looks more majestic in motion. At the first wearing she looked more like the depictions of a warrior princess. This time, the effect is more muted perhaps because the event is less dramatic than the PdA awards. Like all of Varela's pieces for big events, it fits the Queen's silhouette perfectly.
ردحذفOn October 12 some Spanish writers gave a lot of column space ...again, to the fact that the Queen no longer uses Varela exclusively for the event and supports small sustainable brands....which is all true but a weak topic to repeatedly write about.
Today the Queen appears with one of Varela's best works, forcing them to give him column inches which equals free publicity.

حذفYou cannot compare QLetizia's dress to the one Mathilde was wearing. The fabric is different, there is more white in QMathilde's dress, I prefer QMathilde's dress to the one QLetizia is wearing. Although I'm not a big fan of Natan, sometimes it suits QMathilde very well and sometimes it doesn't. It depends on the shape of the dress. QLetizia has the advantage of being very thin. Almost everything fits her very well but this time there is something about the dress I don't like. The neckline and the upper part is looking good but the big black parts in the skirt of the dress are too much. You are right about her hairdo. It isn't lovely anymore like it used to be.

Agree! It looks like the dress was made for a much taller person. The darker patches look misplaced, like they should be at the waistline which would allow the dark color to make the wearer's waist appear smaller--not that QL needs that. DIQ

ردحذفNot the best thing I have ever seen her wear. I think it should have been somewhat shorter. It fits perfectly I think it is just the odd placement of the darker diamond shapes that are at odds because the top half is beautiful.

حذفEste vestido es FA.BU.LO.SO. una obra de arte, totalmente bordado con cristales y piedras. Pensé que no volveríamos a verlo porque la Reina nunca ha repetido los vestidos de Felipe Varela de los Premios Príncipe/esa de Asturias. Estoy muy feliz por la repetición. Los diamantes negros de los pendientes Grisogono son perfectos, como los zapatos y el moño. Bellísima Letizia.

También repitió contra todo pronóstico, muchos años después, en Portugal, el de color verde. Y creo que uno azul tb. Me encantaría volver a ver unos cuantos, en especial el de estilo oriental blanco con bordados en negro. El de esta noche es espectacular y mejor aún por lo bien q iba calzada.

The dress is fine at the neckline but the black panels in the mid section throw the look off. It would have been better with just the lighter fabric below the black neckline.

ردحذفI think this dress has to be seen up close to be appreciated. The photos here don't do it justice. A some of the comments above have mentioned, it is truly a work of art. The craftsmanship is superb, truly unique. The embroidery is just gorgeous. It is one dress that I would love to see in real life.

The craftmanship of this dress, embroidered with small beads looks amazing. You can see it very well when QL is sitting at the table. So the top looks really good but the pattern on the skirt is too much. The top with a plain skirt would have made a terrific ensemble.
