On September 29, Dutch Queen Maxima attended the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Fonds Kwadraat (Materiaalfonds) in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Fonds Kwadraat is an independent foundation that enables talented artists and designers to take out an interest-free loan and in so doing helps the art sector to grow and become more professional.

    This vibrant ensemble and accessories are a ray of autumn sunshine! Love it all!

    And photo 4 shows us that Q Max clearly coordinated with the guy in the striped shirt, how thoughtful of her.

    I know there are some of commentators here who don’t care for her pantyhose, but I have no problem with her shiny nylons. If and when I wear pantyhose or opaque tights, I prefer the type Max wears. I’ve worn all sorts of nylons over the years, so I’ve got a thought or two to share with anyone who cares to read my op-ed on nylons. Yup, this kind is shiny, but they also feel great and supportive. Somehow, this type of pantyhose helps my legs feel less tired, and that works for me.

    Now I’ll put on protective eyewear for all the flowers or autumn leaves tossed at me for my provocative pantyhose post.

    1. Ok with me. The pantyhose smooths out the leg, makes the shoe more comfortable, and upgrades the whole ensemble. It might be a slight bit aging, but Queen Maxima is a middle-aged woman. I think she looks beautiful.

    1. I do, and it is a single NO. The only redeeming quality about this outfit is the blue sweater. That skirt belongs in a circus. And all those different reds don't help. Ugh.

  3. Quite honestly that hat is absolutely ridiculous for this type of engagement besides being an awful 1950's hat. She has so much going for her with her lovely smile and always engaged attention to her audience. She does not have to look like a child's box of wax crayons with a hat.

    Was the hat really necessary, the skirt is already dramatic enough!

      Of course the hat was not necessary. The gloves were not necessary either. I consider leather gloves for warmth, she wears in a more formal manner, even in summer. At least she keeps us entertained. ~d

      Yes, the hat was necessary. Any official visit made by her majesty requires a hat and gloves!

    Silly hat;
    Silly one glove on, one off again
    Sillier skirt
    Color red: nothing matches
    Blouse boring after all the mind altering reds and other colors mish-mashed together.
    Hair: longer extensions starting to look scraggly. clair

    Horrible pantyhose and the everpresent rediculous gloves……
    And again, she cannot walk or stand properly on such high heels, always looks uncomfortable and unelegant with bad posture and strange positioning of the feet.

  11. To fix this she needed to:
    - lose the glove;
    - take off the hat (and never wear it again);
    - get rid of the purse
    - swap the blue blouse for a white one;
    - cut off that blank white panel at the bottom of her skirt (thus making the skirt knee length);
    - wear more comfortable shoes, ideally white flats
    - wear it all in spring visiting the tulip fields or something.
    And also, quite generally, reduce make-up by like 80%.

      Ha, ha, you made quite a study of it.
      I think she tried to make a ridiculous skirt look good but didnot succeed white anything she tried.
      (Claes Iversen is much overrated I think: he never made anything good for her)

  12. Don't mind the hat, shoes and even the gloves, though I don't think they go particularly well with the blue sweater. Then I saw the skirt. Chel says the single word response is NO! My single word would be WHY?

      No, not true….. they all wear ‘nude’ pantyhose, nothing wrong with that, but without the horrible SHINE. There are lots of nearly invisible pantyhose….

    The red hat and blue blouse reminds me of Papa Smurf. It's the shape of the hat. Like the red lip.

      @SJ…… You are so right. I do not like Maxima at all, nor her fashion sense…. although you make it sound like a crime, dear SJ, it simply is what it is: an opinion, a matter of taste….. as long as expressed in a civilized way, nothing wrong with that.
      By the way, Tiger Lili does not seem very keen on M either.

    She looks radiant and her dress is a perfect choice for meeting talented young artists who are not afraid of colourful clothes themselves. I can imagine that the dress doesn’t appeal to more conservative tastes but it’s perfect for the occasion and suitably humorous in its own way. I love it!

    Maxima definitely likes to jazz up her wardrobe ! This is a little over the top, even for Maxima! The skirt needed toning down not elevated! The various shades of red clash !It's ended up looking like and explosion in a paint factory ! Hope she relegates this to the back of her closet ! Ana

    @Anne Marie, none of the women you mention wear ultra shiny pantyhose, they mostly wear sheer ones with different level of success. Many high brands offer low denier styles that are like a wisp and look very natural. In my opinion shiny pantyhose are tacky and spoil any look.
    Dona Karan Ultra Sheer
    Wolfords Ultra Sheer ( Duchess f Cambridge favorites)
    Hipstik Sheers
    Calcedonia Sheers.
    These are just some examples.

    What I perceive is that some commenters do not like Maxima at all and not just her wrong fashion choices.
    As for me, I only dislike this messy ensemble and a few other sartorial fails from Maxima, but I admire her a lot as a lady, a Queen and the way she approaches people and fits in her role.
    Her fashion sense may be moot, but her smile shines every time she comes up to honor her public engagements.
    I mean she has true substance and a strong personality even though her looks are often unflattering.
    She works and she does not merely appear like some other non front royals do.
    My opinion.

      I agree, and I still don’t understand these profound likes and dislikes about public persons, we know nothing about their character, granted we all perceived people differently, but to go into a fashion blog and sometimes make such disparaging comments is just not healthy. Then, there is the other side, when there are negative comments strictly on the fashion sense and some get totally offended and start a keyboard war comparing one Royal against the other, some get irate when Máxima is criticized but have no problem offending Charlene or Meghan, Mary, and viceversa. I guess is just the times we live!
