On September 2, 2021, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands attended the opening of the new cultural center Amare on Spuiplein in The Hague, Netherlands. Amare will be the new home of Zuiderstrandtheater, Nederlands Dans Theater, the Royal Conservatoire and the Residentie Orkest. The municipality handed over the building in order to be used for the performing arts.

  1. Aha both the king and queen have taken to hair lacquer to tame their locks. I must admit though that both actually look very refreshed from the holidays and look as if they took a lot of trouble to look nice.
I am on the fence about the dress and shoes. I find the uneven hem very irritating and while I like the sandals I am not sure about them with the dress at this length.

I agree with the first part of your comment: they look really refreshed and happy.
I think the dress is a gorgeous colour and cut on the Queenand the shoes go along fine. I agree on the hemline: it looks a bit odd in the second picture. Still: a great look overall I think.

    2. Just picked up on another site (in French) that the designers of the dress are Greek and it is a Greek product. The design/s is/are based on Greek mythology and symbolism.
Maybe Maxima picked up the dress whilst on a shopping tour of the Greek island where they have their summer home.
If you're interested, more information on their site ........

  2. Beautiful colour of dress. Think it would be improved by being a little shorter but it's a nice style as well as the jewel bright shade of green. The KIng also looks less rumpled than he has done recently.

  3. Love the style -except for hem- and color of the dress. It’s so refreshing from the Queen’s usually stiff Natan couture. I’m ready for the King to shave but he does look relaxed and healthy. Wonderful couple!

    The dress is horrible.
I don't think it would look good on anyone.

I agree and the slicked back lacquer hair look is quite bad. The shoes are the only element of this look that is good.

Nice dress, though uneven hem is distracting, the color was lovely. However the hair was once again the main distraction (messy/stringy). The king's beard looks scraggly, he needs to trim it, or shave it. jj

  8. I like the dress, both design and color. An asymmetric hemline is often also ok for me (I accept new trends...) however this one would be better a bit shorter. I like the sandals. Finally I also agree that the king needs an appointment at the barber's. But somehow in my view they both demonstrate that sunbathing and tan are not favorable to the skin, beyond a certain age.

Uneven hems is not a new trend. It has been around for many years now. Time for it to go away again

Agree, thought Maxima looked like she’d aged over the summer. She definitely doesn’t look like a young 50 as some do. Km

  10. I like the top of this dress a lot, but not the bottom. It´s too long, and the uneven hem looks sloppy. The green colour is wonderful, the stripey fabric very nice and the caftan-like style as well. I wonder though, how the dress had looked at knee-length.
If I had been W-A, I would have opted for a gray suit with the green dress of my wife. And less grease/hairspray (on both of them).

I like the colour but the dress and style does nothing for Queen Maxima, she also wears too much eye makeup. The King needs to shave his scraggly beard it only makes him look unkept and not professional.

Absolutely agree! The dress is elegant enough for a special occasion (doesn't theater usually demand a step up in dress?) but not too formal for a day event. The cut and color fit Queen Maxima exceptionally well, and for once she kept the jewelry to a minimum - the matching earrings are just the right touch.

I can see Queen Rania wearing this same dress. S.M.

Hi everybody. It looks like they needed a lot of sunshine...after all those rain.
Here they are..back again taking a lot of happiness with them.
On a tanned skin a heavier make-up is really nice. Maxima and subtle, not her style. She maximizes herself with a long dress. Love the color but keep it simple (accessories) because the dress on it's own has a big impact.
Look at the model (small earrings or none etc)

Oh, be still my green-loving heart.

This ensemble speaks to me. Malachite hues, fluid fabric, and lovely hemline. Adding this to my Top Looks Book.

    Gorg couple.

I like this for Maxima. The color is beautiful on her and the fabric is soft and elegant. Her choice to wear this open is a good one. It really opens up to frame her face and we see some of her lovely legs. I watched a video and saw the beautiful movement the dress has. The belted waist works this time as it is part of the dress. The width is correct and is part of the trim detail as opposed to a random belt that is too wide. I don't mind the length at all. It is perfect for an evening event. ~d

  18. I think this is a lovely look for her. She tries hard to achieve a diverse number of looks and occasionally there is a miss but this one works for me. I love that she didn't add clunky shoes or a giant hat to finish it off. More tame, which works here because the pattern is strong.
