Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte attended the opening of the exhibitions "Christian V - King, warrior and the anointed of God" and "The Queen's Embroideries" at the gallery Kings Gathering at Koldinghus in Kolding. Koldinghus opens to the public on April 24, 2021. On the same day, two new exhibitions open at the museum. Koldinghus is a royal castle in the town of Kolding which is located on the central part of south of the Jutland peninsula.
In the exhibition called "The Queen's Embroidery", nearly 100 of the Queen's private embroideries are displayed. Queen Margrethe has always been interested in needlework. During the pandemic, the Queen has had extra time for her hobby and this has resulted in a more production of embroideries by her. The exhibition can be visited until January 2, 2022.
The Queen wears an amazing combination of colours: very nice, and again a very good hat.

I'm not very fond of Margrethe's outfit (too much autumn colours for me), but princess Benedikte looks great in those matching colours.
ReplyDeleteAnd I looove the embroidery and needlework; I'd agree to have some pillows! I knew Margrethe liked needlework, but I did not know she was this good!!

ReplyDeleteI really like Margrethe´s outfit. It´s two colours I wouldn´t normally combine but they work together, with the hat being the finishing touch. And the tilted way she´s wearing it looks quite sassy.
ReplyDeleteBenedikte looks classy too, but I strongly prefer Margrethe´s look, both colourwise and stylewise.
The exhibition seems interesting. I like the needlework, too, and although I´m impressed with the craftmanship, I´m mostly impressed with the quantity. She seems very productive!
That photo with the Queen´s mirror image sure is a winning shot. Very artful.

The Queen is smart in her red jacket and flattering hat but as usual there is something particularly classy about Princess Benedikte's outfit. They both look so young in the last photo. You'd not guess that on was just past 80 and the other approaching 80
ReplyDeleteThese two sisters are wonderful together. It is great they have each other to go through their seasons of widowhood. Both are so stylish with their own flair. I think I had read their mother, Queen Ingrid, was a lifelong needle worker/embroiderer (I believe Queen Mary do England was as well). It is so lovely to see this craft passed along and these beautiful results.

Agree that the Queen is looking smart with her well chosen colour combination which is nicely topped off with her hat.
ReplyDeletePrincess Benedikte seems to be wearing a coat over her skirt and jumper/pullover. However the baby pink colour and baby blue colour of the jumper and pullover don't come up to her usual standard of good taste and elegance.
Would be nice to see the three sisters together at some time but I think Queen Anne-Marie has her hands full with the health problems of her husband.
Question? Is all of the embroiderie the work of Queen Margrethe ? If so .... WOW.
