In order to prevent the transmission of coronavirus, the video shoots of family members were done at different times and they were then combined.

Empress Masako and Princess Kiko are dressed well and they have beautiful hairstyles and makeup. Princesses Mako and Kako: the dresses are well-tailored, good size ... but they need just like something more youthful and modern - they are young women in their twenties.
But Princess Aiko - I'm sorry, I must say - very poorly chosen dress and hairstyle. Her hair is styled like a 12-year-old schoolgirl, her costume and blouse looks borrowed from some 60-year-old lady with a larger figure. The Aiko costume is ill-fitting, two numbers bigger and outdated. I'm 20 years older than Aiko, but I wouldn't wear her costume ever. I like Aiko's modesty and demeanor, but she desperately needs someone to help her get dressed. Oh, I forgot: Empress Empress Michiko - adorable, there is beauty in simplicity.

  2. I think Aikos coat is too big, isn't it? But anyway she looks lovely. Masako looks wonderful.
As for the photo of the five: I do admit that I liked the more relaxed photos of Kako and Mako recently much better!

Whoever drew on Empress Michiko's eyebrows placed them way too high up on her forehead.

I completely dismissed it. I don't know what I thought they were, but not eyebrows. You are correct, as I now look closer, I think they are meant to be her eyebrows.

I agree with the comments above that princess Aiko could do with a nicer hairstyle and clothing, a bit more polished like her cousins. Maybe an updo and some pearls. The shoulder details on the jacket make it look very old. But are girls in the Japanese royal family not considered adults when they are 20 years old? I believe I read it somewhere. Maybe she'll surprise us in 2021 since she'll become 20 this year - I'm looking forward to it!
The emperor and empress are looking truly happy.

Princesses Mako and Kako look very nice. Crown Princess Kiko has a very special wave in her hair at the front, I like it. Different shades of blue make the crown prince family portret look really nice.

  5. Superb photos. No photoshopping here, in my opinion.
Empress Masako's dress is magnificent. And she does if such justice with her smile.
Also love the two photos of the former Emperor Akihito and the former Empress Michiko.
Prince Hisahito and his dad could do with a visit to the hairdressers.
Happy New Year to the Japanese Royal Family.

Former Empress Michiko is the best dressed for me. She looks the most elegant and modern. I think she shows a stiff suit is not necessary, especially for the young princesses, to look polished and dignified. If she can embrace her own style, the princesses should be able to do the same. It doesn't matter to me how well tailored their suits are, these are young women are dressed like their mothers. Poor Aiko looks like her suit is actually borrowed from her mother. It is oversized and so conservative that it reminds me of the way modern nuns dress. I would not have any of the princesses in an updo, but let them wear their hair down in a nice style. I keep thinking this family makes it a very easy decision for their women to marry commoners and live a less restrictive life.

Everytime I see the imperial family, I can't sense the same bright and confident auras other royals have. It's as if Big Brother (1984) pick some random ordinary japanese and convince the whole Japan and the world that these people are japanese royals. Showed some of these pictures to people I know, nobody's able to guess correctly that they are royals. These photos didn't do them justice. These photos look like stock images from Shutterstock, with first photos of emperor naruhito family being the worst offender.
Also I honestly think it's jarring how masako dressed so nicely but Aiko dressed in clothes way too big for her body. Who dressed that poor girl?

  8. My goodness, who is princess Aiko's stylist? Fire immediately! She looks older then her mother.

    1. I must agree that Aiko is being very poorly served in terms of wardrobe and hairdressing. Can they not at least find a suit that fits her?! Empress Masako has excellent taste and dress sense, so I almost wonder whether she has made efforts to encourage her daughter to take an interest in style options, unsuccessfully. There may be a youthful rebellion thing going on. It's impossible to know.

    2. Yes agree! As far as I remember Aiko had a difficult time at school, she might need more time to find her style or to get more interested in clothing.
