    Hair a mess, disgrace to the country when the queen appears in public with that mess, again and again. If it were one or two bad hair days, but it's all the time.

      ‘A disgrace to the country’ because of untidy hair? Please... This woman is an example for a whole generation of young girls: intelligent, considerate and involved. I know this is a fashion blog, but to call the Queen a disgrace to the country because of untidy hair is out of order in my opinion... *AB92

      Most of us aren't queens but manage to go out for even the simplest errands with our hair looking presentable - for our own self-esteem & for the sake of others, never mind meeting strangers & being photographed.

      Máxima is a queen. We expect to see something special that we don't have.

      Same with her humongous hats, especially on foreign visits - people want to see her face, not have a huge hat blocking the view. I hope she won't wear one of them while being masked.

      To me the good, intelligent work this modern day Queen does far outweighs any messy hair complaints. I barely notice her hair now. She is a working woman as well as a Queen in the 21st century. Her hair actually looks like millions of other hardworking women and mothers in todays corporate world. She isn't only about show, and I appreciate that. But when she needs to be 'on display' she does it very well. Maybe it's just a generational thing..about how people are used to seeing and thinking about royalty and what they should look like in public. Few - very few - if any Royal women in the past, worked in this kind of way like these modern Royals do. They are more relatable to young women who couldn't care less about the fairytale and wanting to see something that they don't have. And I'm absolutely fine with that. Keep up the good work, Max.

      @Laurel I think saying most women manage to go out to do the simplest of errands with presentable hair is a stretch. More women are wearing their hair in a style that is unflattering or out of style than those that keep their hair updated in style and color that is kept up. Many women get stuck in a style and keep it for years and years. Anyone can run a brush through their hair. I don't consider that presentable. The cut and style has to be there as well. If the women Maxima is with in the pictures above are a comparison, I would have to say her hair looks fine and that is not saying very much.

    Today Maxima found a ridge. She could use it more regularly.

      Hair: not really better
      Outfit: too small, especially around the hip area
      Boots and bag: a no from me, odd color
      Game: ? lol She enjoys the attention of being a queen, has a lovely smile, but does not seem to care about the way she projects her image to young women. If she wants to be a Queen, then wear appropriate clothing (no huge hat/over the top jewelry/clothing that is classy and classic, and most of all, take care of your hair, its a mess 99.99% of the time.

  4. I do not think this was a bad outing for Maxima. Her hair is better than the day before, and I think the red coat, boots and handbag coordinate with the red checks of her dress. If her foundation garments fit better to eliminate the slight bulge below her waist, I think her appearance would be improved.

      I fully agree about her undergarments. She needs Spanx in the worst way. The bra is terrible as usual.

  6. What an elegant undress! Love how the leather boots and bag pick up one of the colors in the tiny plaid.

    I have no love for this dress, its very beige from a distance and even the red coat and boots doesn’t lift it at all. If my hair looked terrible after a gust of wind(which seems to a regular occurrence) then I would wear it up on engagements or buy super strong hairspray. It would even have to elaborate just something that doesn’t look like she’s being dragged through a field backwards. It distracts from whatever message she is trying to promote.

  8. Both Maxima and Mathilde are wearing totally ill-fitting Nathan outfits today. I don't think I have ever seen one item of that fashion house or maybe just one that fits properly or even looks professionally made. I do NOT know what both Queens see in that garment supplier. I refuse to call it a fashion house. Mathildes garment just makes her look badly overweight because it is too tight and Maxima looks like she slept in it and it hung out of shape. It is pulling just under the waist and the fit of the sleeves are pulling in the front of the armhole. Its giving her jelly rolls above the waist which she does not have. It is a Belgian establishment so I can see why Mathilde would feel obliged to support it but that does not apply to Maxima. Surely both ladies can find something better also home grown.

      So, instagram accounts are just like here, a blog/social media whatever you call them. Bad hair is bad hair. The outfit needs some spanx, or an old-fashioned girdle.

      I doubt high street Italian brands or simply Italian well dressed women would ever praise Maxima for most of her looks.
      This has nothing to do with her always noteworthy work, nor with her smiling approach to people.

    @AB92: “an example for a whole generation of young girls” ...... please......Maxima is what she is ONLY because of her marriage. That is exactly the opposite of what we want young women to be taught.

    What can be learned from these pictures though, for the readers who are not from the Netherlands, is how the average Dutch woman on her Sunday best is dressed in general. Look at the woman on the fourth picture and the ones therafter. I am sure that she dressed especially for this special occasion....
    This explains exactly why Dutch women think Maxima the epitome of elegance. They themselves just don’t have a clue.
    By the way, this town, Nijmegen, has been my home town for many years. Not anymore though...

      Hi Lily, a few things:
      - Máxima is a well educated woman who had some really desirable jobs before she got engaged with WA, so to argue that she is what she is today ONLY because of her marriage is utter nonsense;
      - Totally agree with you that girls shouldn’t be taught that you only can become something or someone because of your marriage, that wasn’t my point (see above);
      - If you really are concerned that we should teach the young generation about what is important, maybe you should focus less on appearances and more on ambition, intelligence and the contribution of somebody to society;
      - You must feel so lucky you don’t live in Nijmegen anymore, it must have been really hard for you to look at people who dress like they ‘don’t have a clue’ (yes, sarcasm intended);

      I think this year has learnt us that we sometimes must focus on the important things in live. Of course, fashion in general can be a thing that makes people happy. Another thing with a much bigger impact though, is positivity. I’m not saying you cannot express your opinion (not at all!), but the negativity tone of your contributions on this blog is just really getting boring.

      Take care and all the best, AB92 ;)

      @ Lily T
      Yes, I agree on the fact she owes much of what she is to her marriage.
      I didn' t even know who she was before she got engaged to Willem- Alexander.

    The Queen looks wonderful today! Love the outfit and she wears it well. It she trimmed her hair two inches in a straight bob she would have more volume.

  15. I agree partially with *AB92 and Anon 9:13, I don't think that having terrible hair is a disgrace for a country and in the big scheme of things is really not that important compared to the substantial work that she does, however I do think that being well groomed shows discipline, and should be a minimum requirement for a woman with her role. It doesn't make any sense to wear expensive clothing, lots of makeup, and not making an effort to show a hairdo that looks well tended and clean, it doesn't have to be chic, a simple and slick ponytail ( like Letizia's) would suffice, not to mention the fact that her brassiere is terrible or she simply doesn't wear one. I like Máxima, I find her original and uplifting, but her looks sometimes are just mouth dropping. That being said, I like her outfit, even though once again she is in a sea of beige that doesn't flatter her, good choice on the splash of color from the boots and complements.

    There are a lot of women who are able to use a brush and the Queen is one of them too. She is luckiky
    not handicaped. Using a brush or have a hairstyle which doesn't let you discriminated from fashionbloggers is very difficult.

    Well Lily T., come to Rotterdam and you will see many well dressed normal Dutch women.
    I think, in contrast to you, not that Dutch women think M to be “ the epitome of elegance”, but they are blinded by their adoration and dare not to be critical.
    You are, like me, a bit blinded maybe by your annoyance about the arrogance of our Queen who dresses so often with disrespect to her hosts.
