  1. The Empress is beautiful. I love her mauve colored blouse and her pearls. I like that her lip color matches the flower arrangement. The pictures of her and the Emperor are very nice. They give the impression of a loving couple. Happy Birthday, Empress Masako!

  2. Sigh. Pearls OVER that type of blouse and the stuffy pillows. That said, happy birthday Empress!

    1. The length of the neck lace is perfect with the blouse, I go for it.

  4. Does someone know what they are looking at? It looks like giant skeins of silk and some smaller cocoons in front of them. Is there some symbolic meaning ?

One of Japanese Empress jobs is to grow silkworms and make silk. Masako did the job for the first time this year. The books they are looking at are the treasure books of Shosoin. There are old Japanese treasures in Shosoin, and the empress's silk was used to restore them before.

Happy Birthday to this lovely Empress! Best wishes for health and happiness.
Masako looks great here, happy and content. Her blouse is beautiful and looks similar in style to one that CP Mary has, with those pleats around the neckline. It is very smart and Masako wears it very well together with the front tie and the traditional formal pearls.
The style of the photos of husband and wife are very traditional; we've seen this before with their daughter as well. Blessings to all of them.

  8. I don't trust my eyes: are they having Weißwurscht? (Bavarian white sausage)

She looks content and elegant but could do away with the necklace. As an aside, they look so stiff as if they're not allow to move a muscle. I hope they would relax a little .

She’s one of my favourite royals with her elegant and serene manner. I love the blush coloured blouse, especially against the contrast of the deep yellow cushions. I think the pearls look quite good too, as they are long enough not to compete with the neckline. (V.M.)

Masako's pearl necklace looks so out of place on the neckline of that blouse, I want to remove it asap. I appreciate Naruhito's nicely positioned necktie and the color to complement her blouse and yes those unnecessary pearls (I would expect nothing less from the elegant Japanese). ~Laurel~

  14. Masako looks elegant as usual, though it would be nice to see her without the heavy makup, and in a more relaxed setting. Her blouse is such a beautiful color!
Her husband appears to looks tired. I hope he is well.
