  1. How absolutely boring. Sad to see the Duchess regress back to uninspired looks, even though it seems to be a new dress. She has nicer "conservative" and appropriate blue dresses that she could have reworn. The one she wore to the Tower of London Poppy Remembrance Field is far nicer.

I'm not sure why she favors v-neck necklines. Sometimes a v-neck can break up the lines of a dress. Personally, I think crew or bateau necklines look marvelous on her. This cornflower blue looks a bit dusty in contrast to her tan and the sumptuous palace surroundings. The nude suede shoes don't add anything either. I'm more interested in the first lady's skirt suit.

    1. I don't understand why to be so tough on her dress or its v-neckline. I prefer this dress than the numerous shirt flower dresses she had recently.

The blue of course is a nod to the Ukrainian flag. Personally I love everything about the dress, but to each his own opinion. We are all different in our views, and as women, we are very picky! Lol.

@Anna, "boring": I would not wear an over the top, exciting, attention seeking dress in this kind of meeting on state level, where just two couples (i.e. not a lot of other women) take part. So being not underdressed, but simply dressed in this context is a kind of politeness, in my view. (-Ann.)

    4. I understand, but as I mentioned the Duchess of Cambridge has many many beautiful, also appropriate, also blue, also simple dresses and I'm not sure why this new, and in my opinion not that great dress, was purchased. If she really wanted to let the First Lady shine maybe she could have reworn? Many royal women have gone this route.

Once more, I did not doubt the blue was in homage to that of Ukraine's flag. She has plenty of blue dresses, as she does coats. Nor did I call for an ostentatious dress. Like I mentioned, she has many other beautiful and conservative dresses.

I don't think I'm being too harsh. On the contrary I brought up a flattering counter point for each fashion critique I made. I don't hate the Duchess of Cambridge. Quite the contrary. I wish she dressed better to flatter her and bring out her personality.

In UK are more brunette or blondes? I wonder if Duchess of Cambridge has English type of beauty.

    1. Hi Anonymous,

Were you the one that asked a similar question on another post about the DoC? It's quite bizarre. It reminds me of those AI training programs or maybe one of the security exercise you get before proceeding to a site "please select all pictures depicting an English Rose."

    2. I for one think she is a classic "English rose".

@Anna, I would guess it is the same person asking, and I don't understand either question. I am going to go with your thought that it could be some type of security question. BTW, I am not a Robot.

Yes, boring is the word. What a waste of money. This looks like a dress you keep in the closet to wear under a fabulous coat because you need something under that coat, but it will never show. Plain, boring nude shoes makes it even worse. She could have had some detail or color somewhere. This is a real disappointment after her last outfit. First Lady Olena is far better dressed this time. While I find her skirt a little long, her outfit has interest and style.

  5. Great to see the couple taking on formal duties like these. Gorgeous blue dress--perfect colour and style. It's slightly shorter than the Duchesses usual length but looks fine on her, given her great legs. The skirt worn by Mrs Zelenska, on the other hand, cuts off at a point that makes her lower legs/ankles look puffy and lighter coloured shoes might have been better with the white suit In fact she and Catherine could swap shoes and it might improve both outfits :)

  6. I love the shade of this blue dress, beautiful. Yes, it's a conservative dress, but it is a diplomatic function. Exactly what is expected to be worn. But I do say, even though it is only a side view, I like the Ukrainian First Lady's white dress, with the asymmetrical draping in the front.

  8. Laughing at some of the comments. This has been her style, since we were first formally introduced to her at the engagement press conference, where she wore the navy Issa dress. That is who she is.

As the future queen, she represents HM and the UK with attractive classics. I agree with Coralie; she is a perfect English Rose.

    1. PB Coleman, I don't see why you should be laughing at the comments, most of them are well thought out and with value. I disagree with " this is who she is", I have seen the duchess wear fabulous outfits, and this isn't one of them, it isn't bad at all, is appropriate pretty and one of many, and it pales in comparison with the first lady's style, perhaps is a smart and thoughtful gesture as to not overshadow your guest. I agree that the First Lady's shoes aren't the best choice, perhaps a nude or metallic would've been more on point.

Kate looks fantastic;the blue is spectacular. The royals never aim to out shine there guests. I am amazed that there are any visits of this nature during, this pandemic.I must admit I love English roses;they give a spectacular display,

The dress is nice. This shade blue works well with Catherine's coloring. Is it a major fashion moment for her? No. Is it a good choice for a diplomatic function? Yes. Shoe choice is ok. I don't mind the nude heels but think black would like better.

Classy, beautiful, young, intelligent, did I mention CLASSY! Handsome husband, beautiful work they do together. Glad she took the road less traveled these days, presented herself as the future Queen, dressed appropriately, lovely hair/makeup, etc, just an elegant, down to earth woman.

      Fully agreed.
Not an easy role for sure, not easy for anyone, but Catherine can pull it off graciously.
      The Cambridges' secret?
Working as a team, neither of them ever trying to outshine the other( IMO).
      Well done!

Agree, completely appropriate dress. Also if her dress color was indeed a nod to the Ukrainian flag- well done DoCam, she is one smart cookie. The Cambridges’ wise approach is one of support while being very sought after. People here forget the role she and William are in with both the Queen and Charles ahead of them. Not the venue for a headline making outfit.
I’m on the fence about the shoes. I like them, just not sure about them here.

Is Kate's hair darker or is it just the light/ my computer screen? I would prefer she went back to her natural hair colour, the lighter shade we saw over the summer and especially in yesterday's photos was not suitable for her complexion. The dress is appropriate but nothing to write home about. I agree with other commentators that the First Lady's suit is more interesting but i am not sure about the asymmetric hem of the skirt - i know it is very in at the moment but not long after today whenever she looks back at these photos she my not find it attractive. Classic timeless outfits are better for official photos who will certainly be shown again and again on the years to come. From that perspective Catherine got it right... - AnnieM

I like the blue dress on Kate. It is a bit understated which I do find rather chique..... The nude shoes, on the other hand, are not the best choice with this dress. Why not go for a slightly clashing colour of shoes like dark purple?
The first lady’s suit comes across as ‘trying too hard’ in my opinion.

I agree with many of you : a modest good dress that draws not to much attention. Alas, the shoes make it a bit “ boring”, I think the dress deserves more daring shoes and would make a different impression then.

I can't see her for all that gleaming gold furniture.

I like the colour and fabric of the dress. The colour flatters her, it's a nice hue. Some colours seem to drain her complexion but this one does quite the opposite.

The jewelry is subtle and complements the outfit nicely.

    8/10 for me.
