  1. Before anybody starts complaining about her hairstyle, I just want to say: she isn't a Hollywood celebrity or somebody's arm candy, she's my future Head of State. That is exactly what she is signalling. She should be compared to Queen Margrethe II, not Kate. Or any of the other consorts.

    1. You make an excellent point!

    2. Well, you're very lucky to have her as your future Head of State! :)
I agree that it's wrong to compare her to the female consorts, since she is the heir. The only female heir of her generation - maybe that's one reason for these comparisons. I think she needs a hairstyle that stays in place all day long while she is working and if that's the bun for her, that's fine. :)

    3. Haga, I agree. Not only Margrethe, but also Elizabeth and Princess Beatrix (to name just two) have basically not changed their hairstyles in decades. Some women love the same ol', but a lot need variety. ~Laurel~

  2. @Haga, you are right, with one additional remark: Queen consorts are also not necessarily arm candies (never heard this expression before but I love it :-). But besides this point of being queen consort vs. future queen: I think nobody should be compared to anybody else, anyway, because everybody deserves to be thought about for herself and not in comparison for someone else. - By the way, I like her bun for more than one reason. 1. I do agree, no woman should be judged by their looks in the way these women are. Their fashion sense on the other hand... ;-)

  3. I think it fits her personality and she looks neat and appropriate but I also think that those buns are aging and that you can have a good haircut and also be a person of many responsibilities, both things are compatible, and she does wear her hair down occasionally, so I don’t think is an issue of being “queenly” more like convenience or preference on her part. Comparing a vibrant young woman style with the one of an 80 year old is preposterous. By the way Catherine is also in line to be the King’s consort of the most entrenched monarchy, so I don’t see why they would be analyzed ( fashion wise) differently.
Anyway before you get offended, I would clarify that I really like Victoria and she look appropriate and no, you don’t have to be a fashion icon to look god.

    1. I was actually thinking of Margrethe as a young woman, I've never seen a pic of her with her hair long and loose. Anyway, Vic's hair craves a lot of work to look good because it's extremely frissly and not like a wash and go nice bob.

    2. With frizzy hair, you don't get a nice bob with a fast wash and go!! It requires quite a bit of styling.

  4. Personally, I don't think that short hair are the easiest to live with, on the contrary! But some more variation than what we see, would be good in my view, without harming the image of a future queen. I hope however that she will follow more her mother than Qn Margaret, keeping her own personality at the same time.

  5. It struck me that there is also constant complaints about Maxima's total lack of hair care, which I can only agree with, it's not a good look. She'd better put it in a bun. :-)

    1. Exactly - a bun for Maxima and we could concentrate on fashion. Alternatively, someone starts a blog called "Royal Buns, Blowouts, Updos & Co.". Could be a hit. (-Ann.)

  6. My feeling is that she does her hair this way to give herself a look of authority, being that she is the future heir. It is a very severe look, not terribly feminine. It is a fast, get down to business style. She could pull her hair up in a top knot just as easily and it would be more feminine, but it is not the look that she is trying to convey. At this time in the world, she should not have to. We should have progressed to a point where she can have her hair in a style, and she can wear stylish clothes while still being taken just as seriously as a man.

  7. I think she looks beautiful. As someone who often wears her hair up because I don't like it in my face (or have to worry about it while I'm working), I can fully understand why she wears it they way she does (and I am not a future monarch lol). I think her buns look neat, polished and professional. Plus, they are almost a signature at this point. She doesn't have to worry about her hair being out of place, like Maxima's often is. Plus, it is her choice. Some say it isn't feminine. I guess if you use some arbitrary old fashioned notion perhaps.

  8. @ Haga, the expression arm candy is derogatory and insulting.

    1. Just stop. The PC Police are working overtime. Some men and women enjoy the colloquialism. After all, it implies beauty. Husbands joke that they are their wife's arm candy, usually when they have dad bods and the tops of their heads look like a crop circles. It's a joke. Men and women who do actually play the role of arm candy do so because they want to. They usually have an agenda. They want to be seen. I am not going to worry about that.
