I find the uniform a bit strange - why are the skirts short and worn with knee socks?

Probably because it's a private school and the children have some control over their uniform. If you look carefully, the girls are actually wearing different shoes.

    2. It’s the style ...I think it looks great , young and spunky .

    4. In many Anglo Saxon countries and I am sure in other countries too a school uniform is normal and compulsory and very often look like this. I approve wholeheartedly and wish they existed in my adopted country. It levels all the children as far as income and status is concerned. From where I come from if parents could not afford the correct uniform there was a fund run by the school and no-one knew if a child's uniform was paid for by the school or parents.

    5. You find the school uniform strange because you are not Spanish. ALL the girls wear their uniform skirts as short as possible. Even religious schools. My daughters wear them the same. If they were wearing the longer uniform skirt, the classmates would make fun of them without a doubt.

    6. I could even tell you that Leonor's skirt is too long. Sofía wears it as short as all the girls who have a school uniform in Spain

I agree with the above. The girls don't have a lot of control about what they wear, but as long as they are in uniform, the skirts will be as short as they can get away with because that is the style. As mentioned, their shoes are different, and they can accessorize their backpacks.

  4. They are lovely girls, growing up so well. A credit to their parents.

  5. Is there such a thing as a "skort" in Spain? It's a skirt with built-in shorts. My daughter's school uniform had that option. It gives coolness and freedom while preserving modesty. Although my daughter's was not that short - I think the Infantas' long legs and thin build make them harder to fit correctly.

    1. No "skorts" in Spain, all girls wear the uniform like that, at that age their legs are long because they are growing up. No problems here with showing the legs, this is a modern country.

    2. All the girls in Spain wear the school uniform in this way. My daughters wear it even though they are smaller. If they were wearing the longer skirt, they would only be a target for teasing. In Spain there are no problems showing legs and there is nothing wrong with wearing only panties underneath ... We are not in the 15th century

For crying out loud! Nobody said it was the 15th century.

    4. I realize we no longer live in a time when "a glimpse of stocking was considered shocking." My pubescent daughter loved her skort, because it was an extra layer of fabric. It was several years before she felt ready to use tampons, and the shorts under the skort really gave her a sense of security when she was using sanitary pads during her period. Plus, she didn't have to worry about beastly teen-age boys trying to see all the way to Cincinnati (as we say in the US).

I should have explained more fully in my first post - "modesty" may have been the wrong word.. But I must say, I am old-fashioned. I prefer a bit longer skirt.

@Anon 11:31 Girls in the US wear their skirts that short as well. In case you are not a parent and you think you would be able to force your daughter to wear longer skirts than her classmates, you should know that they roll the waist band at school to shorten the skirt and unroll it after school it so their parents don't see it. It is very important for kids to fit in, and there is a fine line that can be walked so the girls remain modest yet wear their skirts short enough. Try to remember what it was like when you were growing up. No one wants to be teased.

You must have some information about the human body that I confess I do not possess. I cannot imagine how one would go about viewing the contents of a person's breakfast menu based on the position they are seated. Extraordinary.

    6. Anon 11:31..In Spain there is not any problem, it must be in your country where you have a "hot mind" and take rubbish for breakfast, as you said..

What a patronising, condescending and humourless lot you are.

Sorry, I have no children so I can't possibly begin to imagine the pressures they might face for daring to be different 🙄

Also as I am 7565 and a half years old I can't remember what it felt like to be at school.

Unknown - I'm not Anon 11:31 who by the way hasn't said anything about breakfast. The original quote did not say anything about rubbish.

@spayneuterlady I must confess that I haven't seen a skort in a few decades, and I think all but the youngest girls would hate them. Young ladies should learn to move and sit in a ladylike fashion, and the young men must learn to behave like gentlemen and that the way a young lady dresses does not dictate how much respect he gives her. Putting them in longer skirts sounds like a "you" issue. I am guessing you live in a different part of the country than I do (I have never heard the Cincinnati line before), the Midwest? I know it is usually more conservative there than where I am. Any boy trying to look up a girl's skirt needs to learn some manners. We are long past the time when we blame the woman for how she is dressed for a man's behavior.

Infanta Sofia's uniform is very short. she got taller over the summer.

    1. It's a shame that adults are so irresponsible. All of Leonor's classmates and herself will have to go through an overwhelming and suffocating experience due to the irresponsibility of an adult. I am very angry because I am also a mother.

I commented on the skirt length above.

I don't have a problem with legs and I never suggested Spain wasn't modern. 🙄

I am British and wore a uniform throughout my education at my private girls school.

I just find the skirt a very odd length - that would normally be the length at the end of the academic year after a growth spurt not the beginning when uniform was new.

That's all. Not an insult just curiosity.

    1. I sincerely understand that if you are not Spanish, do not understand that the girls wear the skirt as short as they can. I am surprised because I thought it was like that in all countries. It is just strange but now I try to understand that they are just different customs.
My school uniform was also as short as I could get and the older I got the shorter my skirt got hahahaha.

We live very close to a High School in Australia and the girls wear their skirts just the same here maybe even shorter. I think the princesses look great. Normal teenages.
