The periwinkle coat dress is gorgeous. Mary’s hair and make- up look great. The her hat is ok.

A handsome Prince and a beautiful Princess doing their job very well.
Like the change in her hair style and colour.

Looking like (her hair) a tacky Hollywood celebrity.

Her new lighter hair coloration again not suiting her complexion and looking like some tacky Hollywood celebrity - this time even worse as the mixture with her original darker roots coming through looks horrendeous. Why not keep it natural and neat to begin with??? In her role she can't sport such messy style. And it ruins the whole coatdress look.

    2. I agree with you anonymous. This highlighting makes woman look tackyer, espacially when you have dark hair. Sofie from Sweden and Kate are also doing it. With Sofie i find it the most tacky.

    Very stylish:
Beautiful coat of Mary. (Her hairdo is not an approvement but still good; her little hat, the juwelery and the make-up: very well done), and even the Prince is decent and very becoming dressed in his uniform!

  8. Perhaps not every single woman but an awful lot of us get a sort of "craziness" every so many years to try something else with ones hair (cutting it off short, other colour, perm straightened etc.) We then either hate it and desperately set about growing it back, trying to wash it out etc. or love it and live with it. In this particular case I plead "Dear Mary please write this orange down to a momentary aberration and go back to your own dark natural colou. It really is very attractuive," For the rest she looks lovely. I don't like the hat much too 1940's for me. even if it matches the rest of the look. Sensible shoes for walking around on cobbles.

Sensible shoes for walking? They are sky high and other than a wider heel on the coblestone/brick, that is about all that is sensible about them.

Her outfit, so-so, not stunning, not over the top, just acceptable for the occasion. Her hair, why the fuss? It's not totally ugly, like a (Queen in the region) that has horrid hair and forgets she has a hairbrush).

The hat though subtle, does not detract from the rest of the outfit and scream 'look at me'. It is suitable for the occasion.

Mary elegant and poised, as always. I like that she favoured more of a block heel, rather than the normal stiletto. Have to agree with others, Mary's hair is her crown and glory, but the lighter shade, is looking a little 'brassy' (as in blonde ish), it needs to go a couple of shades darker or toned down. Perfect shaping on the coat dress, and fits her beautifully ! And a bonus with the Connaught Sapphire Brooch. Ana

  14. Crown Princess Mary looks magnificent here--beautiful cut coat, great fit and perfect length in a lovely colour. Hat, shoes and brooch all great too. As a bonus, in uniform, the Crown Prince looks so much better that the usual dishevelled look he favours. Lovely couple

  15. Why comparing gorgeous Mary to "some tacky Hollywood celebrity"?
    Please, be serious.
Mary couldn' t be tacky even if she tried hard to become that way!
She has natural beauty, class, perfect posture, modesty and whatever any woman may want!

I do like the colours and style of Mary's dress except I'm not too crazy about that flap and how ...untame it is past the waist. It spoils the looks for me when it is caught in the wind.

    2. I totally agree about that flap thing hanging down from her lapel. I´m surprised I had to scroll this far down before someone mentioned it. What a random piece of fabric. I find it highly distraction and effectively ruining an otherwise very nice outfit.
I like the colour, the block heels, the accessories, and the hat. The coat dress is lovely (except for that flappy thing), although a bit snug on her.

When commenting on Duchess Kates fashion choices I never read anywhere that says so Princess Mary style. Princess Mary has been a royal a lot longer than Kate so maybe Kate is copying Mary, give her credit where credits due. I read a article recently published by Hello magazine where they did a online survey of over 30,000 people and the best dressed royal was as follows. Crown Princess Mary first place Queen Maxima second Place and Duchess Kate third place. although I do not agree with Maxima being in second place she has had some fabulous fashion moments that only she can pull off!

  20. Not sure if I need glasses, but I don’t see the horrible orange or the unnatural curls??
I see a lovely woman wearing a very elegant dress, and the hat is just perfection, not the over the top favored by some royals. Simply exquisite in my opinion.

    1. Maybe it is my monitor but on the second photo down just above her brow you can see that where her hair was lightened it has gone a rather awful orangy colour. I presume as a result of the summer sun playing havoc with the lightened parts of her hair.

  21. What a very beautiful church interior.

Imo Mary looks superb -- am not a fan of the extended lapel hanging down, but it doesn't ruin things for me and (along with the shoes) prevents the overall look from being overly retro.

I see the point some commenters make about the orangey tone of the streaks in Mary's hair, but I'm onboard with her desire, as she ages, to soften her appearance by subtly lightening her hair. She is still quite young-looking, but being in her forties she may be looking ahead to when solidly dark hair will begin to look harsh on her. I hope she will continue to work with colorists to achieve a look that avoids the orange tones.

    1. Why work with colourists at all. It will lighten by itself as she gets older no one escapes that. Sooner or later it will happen. Look how pretty Letitias grey streaks look. It can look stunning as well although not many ladies appear to find that. Why do we think greying men look distinguished and ladies must colour? Admittedly many men colour their hair too but far more ladies with beautiful thick dark hair should way the cons of letting it be salt and pepper instead of the bother and hassle of the dye pot every 6 weeks. . It can look really beautiful (from the lady that can not leave her own eyebrows alone and reaches for the paint pot too on observing a grey hair.)

  23. CP Mary carries herself with a quiet dignified presence, she has a great aura, a real lady. This is a gorgeous coatdress very elegant. The fit and flow of the dress is perfect, love the length. The colour suits her perfectly. Her accessories are on point. Her diamond and sapphire brooch, is fabulous, a brilliant choice with the background colour of her coatdress. Makeup is natural and just right. I love her hair. She looks beautiful. Crown Prince looks impeccably well groomed. He looks marvellous in uniform, a very handsome man. They make a fantastic team.

Is our moderator culling out the off topic comments? If so, thank you and please continue.
