On July 17 Friday, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi got married in a private and small wedding ceremony at The Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor Great Park. The wedding ceremony was attended by The Queen, Prince Philip and close family. This was the first time The Queen and Prince Philip left Windsor Castle since lockdown started.

The bride's vintage dress was made by Norman Hartnell and worn by the Queen at the 1967 State Opening of Parliament. It was remodelled by Angela Kelly and Stewart Parvin. The tiara was originally made for Queen Mary by Garrard and Co. in 1919 from a diamond necklace given by Queen Victoria for her wedding.

Beatrice looks beautiful. I love that she wore one of the Queen's old gowns. I wonder if this was always her plan. The Queen Mary fringe tiara is stunning. Her hair and make-up look great. Beautiful flowers. I hope Beatrice had a wonderful day. She like so many brides these last few months had to rethink and adapt her wedding plans.
Guessing they purposely didn't release a ton of family photos- trying to keep Prince Andrew out of the spotlight.

From Joann - I admit I teared up a bit looking at these pictures. Beatrice looked lovely. It was so touching she wore the same tiara the Queen wore at her wedding. And I thought the Duke of Edinburg looked great. Even at his age, he still is handsome. The Queen, as usual, looked wonderful. I respectfully disagree that Andrew was kept out deliberately. I think a decision was made not to photograph any of the guests or principal simply because they wanted to highlight the private nature of the event. And let's not forget, Andrew has not been charged with anything. He still has the presumption of innocence.. Besides, I don't think there is any message there. If there is a "message" to come out of this wedding, it is that Beatrice and her husband are setting an example for the country. Cherished traditions and family occasions have to be altered because of the virus. And the royal family is setting the pace for everyone else to follow.

Given they waited until today to release photos so Sir Tom would be the royal focus yesterday, my guess is they just let the wedding and connection to the Queen and DOE shine today. A very wise, disciplined tradition characteristic of how the royal family does PR. Especially knowing how much the press/others will try and spotlight things away from the joy of the wedding couple.

I din't say they didn't take pictures with Andrew. Simply that those weren't released. Yes Andrew hasn't been charged but there is currently black cloud hanging over him. There is reason, he has been seen so little since November. Out of sight out of mind.

EBB, are we supposed to bring the sins of the father ( proven or not) every time that a picture of their daughters is published?

No one is judging Beatrice by her father's supposed sins. The Yorks (Andrews, Sarah, Beatrice and Eugenie) are a close family. One would expect to see pictures of Beatrice and Edo with their parents and siblings.

    2. I was nervous about bridal Beatrice but she exceeded all expectations. The only other time I had such apprehensive and low expectations for a Royal bride but ended up so impressed was Countess Stephanie de Lannoy in Luxembourg 2012. Beatrice's wedding florals seem off a movie set...I have honestly never seen more beautiful Royal wedding flowers in Britain or out.

WELL DONE Beatrice!! You took lemons and didn't just lemonade. You made champagne !

  6. Wow, Princess Beatrice looks amazing. She is just radiating happiness. Love the recycled gown with the extra fabric to make it longer (I used the same trick, wearing my mother's gorgeous silk wedding gown, with an added frill, 25 years later) It looks as if it has a pink tinge in the photos, as opposed to the one where the Queen is wearing it. And wonderful of the Queen to lend Queen Mary's diamond fringe tiara--worn by Princess Anne as well as the Queen. The Queen's outfit is beautiful, of course as we had already seen and the Duke of Edinburgh looks really well. Hope we will see a photo of the rest of the York family at some stage. Wishing long life and every blessing to the happy couple

  10. A surprise wedding indeed!! I absolutely love the flower arch and bouquet Princess Beatrice had in her wedding. Mixed emotions about the dress though. The dress itself is pretty, but I'm not a fan of the sleeves. For her first tiara appearance it would have been nice if her hair was styled a bit better. I wonder how their wedding would have looked overall if we had no Covid-19.

This wedding looks like it was stripped of any pomp and was a warm family gathering. She is blessed to still have her grandparents here to attend, it was the perfect solution to her father's distraction, and she looks absolutely thrilled! Fabulous!

I agree about diving into the Queen’s closet- just to look at some of her well-crafted dresses up close! Maybe it will start a trend (could be fun!) like in Sweden, although the Queen was/is a petite lady which may make it difficult but clearly Ms. Kelly and Mr. Parvin were up to the challenge!

Just read that Angela Kelly is the one who did the alterations on the vintage gown. Kudos to her for the soft sleeves, hem and especially fit on the body. It looks cohesive and great on Beatrice - a real difficulty with vintage or rewear, especially with those seams. I again just have a soft spot for her choice of Gran’s vintage reuse- lovely.

  21. I love that she wore the same tiara the Queen wore on her wedding day.

The dress, however, makes me sad. I know alot of commentors think it's a sweet gesture, etc. but I look at this and think of two things right off the bat. 1) The rumours that Beatrice couldn't find anyone who was willing to design her wedding dress; and 2) her father's reversal of fortunes. This was a dress designed to accentuate the Queen's hourglass figure. It's not doing Bee any favors. And the additions of the sleeves and the satin whatever at the hem (which isn't visible in any of the photos from the 1960s) are so out of place with the rest of the dress. Surely there were better options to choose from.

I think this is one of the most insulting comments here.
      1) Why should she not find a designer? There are thousend designers out there ... she even found two who refitted the dress for her. And she probably also had another dress for the party. How do you assume that? Because there were no rumours about who will design the dress? Maybe she always planned to wear that dress and never really looked for the designer and hence there were no rumours?
      2) Why connect the dress or the overall wedding to her father? She is his daughter, but not responsible for his actions.

    4. Casey, not sure where you are getting your information about the fact that nobody wanted to do her wedding dress, perhaps from the tabloids? I would bet , if I were the betting kind, that is not true. Her choice seems to me rather intentional, and I don’t think is sad at all, in fact is rather sensible not to spend a fortune with the current situation, and specially on an intimate ceremony. In fact you can see that most royals in their recent appearances seem to be yo recycling outfits as not to be tone deaf. I also think it’s uncalled for, to bring her father’s issues, specially on her wedding day, whatever he has done it doesn’t define her.

      Delete
    5. Anonymous19/7/20 23:15

Casey, your comments are uninformed and cruel. Beatrice is her own woman and not attached in any way to her father's personal life. What designer would turn away an opportunity to design a wedding dress for a lovely young princess, devoid of any scandal, and known to have a very close bond to the Queen? As of now, we don't know if she had commissioned another gown for the May wedding, or if she had perhaps planned to wear this gown all along. I would imagine that she had her choice, for the most part, of the Queens gowns, and she certainly had experts at her disposal that could guide her and let her know if her choice would work for her body. She also had a perfect right to make this gown her own. I don't see the Queen rewearing it again, and I would bet she is much happier, and honored, knowing it was worn by Beatrice instead of packed away in storage. Instead of looking at an entitled bridezilla that had to have the most and best of everything, and she is a young woman that has grown up with the finer things, yet she was happy wearing her grandmothers gown and having a private family ceremony. Why aren't you celebrating the fact that this beautiful young lady has her priorities in order, from the fashion on down? THIS is what we need to see more of. Right now, I could not adore her more.

  23. I must say that I generally prefer cleaner lines and I am not much for frills regarding wedding dresses, but WOW,! she looks divine, and this dress is a work of art, regardless of individual taste. She is the image of a fairy princess, and the tiara is breathtaking, not to mention the sentimental value.
Two things came to mind looking at the original, dress, first the Queen's tiny waist, and the arms :-) I have often read many criticisms about queen Letizia showing her arms, but alas Lillibeth had a very attractive pair herself.
Many blessings to this young couple.

A nice tribute to her grandmother, but it's a miss for me. The sleeves look clumsily added, and the hem is a few inches too short. The tiara is lovely, but the hair and veil placement don't go together. I much prefer her sister's wedding look. I suspect this was not her original attire, but I could be wrong. She does look very happy, so good for her.

    1. I agree about the alterations to the dress i.e. puff sleeves do not improve it and not a very subtle management of making it longer.
Queen Elizabeth had the most incredible hourglass figure but both Beatrice and Eugenie are not far behind. I suspect the longer I look at the dress that around the bosom nothing had to be done but that all those waist darts just had to be let out a bit (just a two millimetres at each dart would soon give some extra centimetres for the waist) and the sewing marks would disappear behind the reapplied beads. If those puff sleeves had just been sleek and long and the band at the bottom had been embroidered in some way to echo the top even if the beading was simpler I think it would have looked far nicer. That original skirt was balloon shaped and must have had various stiff petticoats or linings which they have done away with. I can imagine how difficult it was to add that band at the bottom which actually looks on closer inspection like it is just underneath the original fabric and that they managed to lengthen it by getting rid of the balloon hem which would have had quite a sizeable fold to the inside. What they have done to it now looks like they took up a to wide hem
Just a thought to add to the lady who commented about the present idea that cause some comment about Queen Letitia going sleeveless. I grew up towards the end of the 1950's and 1960's when it was not a criminal offence to wear sleeveless dresses, even on formal occasions, but quite normal even to a funeral if it was extremely hot.

I was curious about the fabric added at the hem and also assumed that Bea is shorter than the queen. However, a Google search shows that they're both 5'4" (or at least, the queen was at one point, I assume). Given that they're the same height, I can't figure out why there's additional fabric added, as it doesn't appear to be to lengthen the skirt. Maybe something damaged the bottom of the skirt at some point? Regardless, Beatrice looks absolutely lovely and happy. I'm glad they were able to celebrate their wedding in such an intimate and special way.

There has been discussion about the dress - if it was meant already for "the big wedding" in May or just a last-minute choice for this private July wedding.
I'm pretty sure that the choice of dress was made already for the original date. There are so many alterations made (albeit small) that making them has taken quite a long time, longer than was available after the government opened the lockdown for weddings.
There has also been remarks that the dress is too short. It's practical to have slightly shorter dress to be able to walk. And they walked to the church and back. Besides, the champagne "reception" was in the park/garden. Only the queen and prince Philip used car to get to the church.
To make it clear: I did like how everything was arranged.
