On the evening of June 23, Prince Albert II, Princess Charlene and their twins Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella watched the traditional celebrations of St. John's Day procession (Fête de la Saint-Jean) at Palace Square in Monaco. Saint John's Eve, starting at sunset on 23 June, is the eve of celebration before the Feast Day of Saint John the Baptist.

Each year, on 23 June, a "batafoegu" (bonfire) is lit on the Place du Palais and traditional groups like the Palladienne de Monaco lead the celebrations.

Braids/cornrows style is good on Gabriella but not mummy, its too childish. Back to black dresses, not a good look !!

I don't get this idea of age-specific hairstyles, it's not something that's prevalent here in Asian countries. People here braid their hair throughout their life. Is it an European trend?

  3. Love Charlene’s hair with the fringe and the plaits. Looks very smart and dignified. Nice to see the cute twins in their lovely formal outfits. Charlene’s dress is somber but elegant. Nice to see them all at this event

    1. Place for varying opinions of course : I don't like the fringe and the plaits for Charlene. I appreciate very much seeing her but IMV she does not look good, she lost weight obviously, was it her wish or not, I don"t know. Although quite pleased to see her, I feel worried for her.

    Sad posture, as ever.

( Why always bring the children to an event?
Do they have a childhood or are they trained as little adults?)

Lovely occasion. Nice to see them out. The twins have grown. Love Gabriella's summery outfit. Charlene looks lovely - love her hair and I think this dress is very elegant the pop of bright lipstick lifts it.

Princess Charlene's dress appears to have shoulder pads, which do not compliment her body shape.

    1. The children do have a playful childhood. They go to regular school (in normal times) as opposed to being taught by tutors in the Palace. However, as should be, the children are being raised and gently exposed to the public/official life that they will lead once they grow older. It's important to do this so they will fully understand and more comfortably glide into their official roles when they are grown.

  14. All of them look like a beautiful family. I don't think black is a proper colour, for such event, given the festivity and the kind of the event. In Catalonia, 'Sant Joan' means joy and unless it is at night, black colour doesn't convey this meaning. Even so, Princess Charlenne looks elegant and regal, although I miss a smile from her.Maybe in Montecarlo, this festivity means anything else, I don't know.

Albert's cousin passed away only two weeks ago. Traditionally the near relatives wear mourning (black or dark clothes) several weeks. Young children are allowed to wear white. The length of the time depends on local traditions (varies in different countries) and how near relative the deceased was. Eg. when my father died, I wore black for 8 weeks.

The twins appear at 4 or 5 events a year at the most. The fact that they can now stand still and behave whilst watching an event is down to the fact that they are getting older and have steadily been introduced to the fact that they don't have exactly the same role as other children. That people then extrapolate that they are always on show and have no childhood is just incredible to me.
Given the amount of exposure their father had throughout his childhood they are very protected. I personally think that Albert and Charlene have got the balance right.

    1. Of course the kids would want to see the bonfire! For a family in mourning, they look nice but not uncomfortable. I don’t love the braids but it’s practical and tidy and I’m guessing the hair stylist is still social distancing?

Anon @ 1:30, I completely agree with your comment, it's obvious that some keyboard warriors need to say something negative ( totally outside of the theme of this blog.. FASHION!!) and not fact based, I don't think they bring the children out too much, but if they weren't, I can only imagine all the conspiracy theories :-) . Good example is Queen Letizia that has been attacked relentlessly and blamed for the small amount of acts on which her daughters have attended when they were very young, but then the same people would criticize and post nasty comments whenever they would appear.
I guess some individuals can only see negativity....
