Queen Maxima visited the OLVG Hospital in Amsterdam

Queen Maxima wore H&M dark-beige blloon-sleeved dress
On May 26, 2020, Queen Maxima of The Netherlands visited the OLVG (Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis) Hospital to get informed about digital care in Amsterdam. One of OLVG's initiatives is The Corona Check, which was developed together with Luscii, originally for non-corona related care. With the Corona Check app it is possible to transmit health data daily via a smartphone or tablet.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, OLVG has focused on further digitization of care in order to provide patients and their loved ones with the best possible remote support. (Queen Maxima wore a new beige balloon-sleeved dress by H&M.)

  1. Good grief! Looks like a Project Runway assignment to make an outfit out of a trash bag.

H&M: "With our leftover brown material we could make some nice play clothing for millions of children in the poor countries of [name 3 dozen] or maybe we could make a few abysmally ugly sack dresses with ginormous puffy sleeves. Decisions, decisions...."

Other than that, glad to see people aren't wearing masks.

The dress is not good to begin with and wrinkled as well.

It kind of looks like it was constructed from a used bed sheet.

Remember Scarlett O'Hara making a dress from old curtains?

  7. That´s one ugly dress. Colour, material, cut, design, all ugly. Looks like made from recycle paper bags.

Not sure about this initiative. I know some are keen to go digital with just about everything now, but people are wary of a corona app, and rightly so.
Also, digital care is an oxymoron.

But I´m happy to see that no-one´s wearing masks here.

    1. I did not know what to write, probably something like most posts here above..., until I read Anony 3:48. I started thinking and finally thought Anon is right. She usually achieves her objective of creating an event for those she visits. Let's say from a fashion point of view the dress is bad. But it fits her quite well, color and sleeves are good for her. I guess some people think "what a display for us", and on this occasion probably unexpensive. I think she is able to imagine immediately, when she sees an outfit, how it could serve her purposes. I wonder whether we will see it again.

@anon @3:48. I think she didn't cause these professionals to dream, but possibly to have nightmares. LOL!!
It's a noble sentiment to find meaning behind a dress, but to equate this choice with an action for "generations " to dream, is a stretch. If I was one of those workers, my first though would have been, " why is she dressed like a walking paper bag"
Horrible dress, the sleeves belong to a costume, the color is just muddy and the whole ensamble hurts the eye.

There is nothing good about people not wearing masks. They are implementing a mask policy on public transportation beginning June 1 (better late than never). Obviously they still have a problem.

This dress is a joke. Unfortunately, it is just to Maxima's taste with the exagerated sleeves. It is meant to be a casual dress, but she tries to dress it up with heels, and of course she throws a belt on just about everything she wears.

You write exactly what I intended to say: it’ s a basic mistake to try to dress up a casual dress.
Whithout the belt and with f.i. the khaki wedges she would have at least be consequent in style.
      This is a mess.

I agree with the comments above that it is actually nice to see no masks.

It either means that the health risks are gone and they are going back to normal. Or it means that people understand that wearing facemasks is not only unnecessary but actually counterproductive.
And implementing a mask policy now? People will wear them only because they have to, not because there's any benefit to it. If there was, they would have worn one voluntarily all along.

As for Maxima's outfit: I think the belt improves the outfit (slightly). It's still a total failure, but at least the belt gives it some structure and a bit of a silhouette. Without the belt, it literally looks like a sack.

  15. Oh dear, I try not to be too negative, but this is so very unbecoming. I dont think it helps with hair that looks this way, very unfortunate.

  16. Not everyone's favourite, but I love the big puffy sleeves! The colour usually works well if paired with a statement colour like red or olive green for the belt and bag - even a print like leopard or snakeskin looks good with that colour, but I assume the idea with the colour blocking was to blend in and not stand out in order to keep the focus on the work and not her outfit. I would give her the benefit of the doubt. I've seen better, but I've also seen a lot worse - and not from QM.

I'm looking at the photo's, thinking, my goodness that looks like a paper bag dress, then get to the comments to discover everyone else thinks so as well. LOL. Messy hair, paper bag dress, what next? Does she do this just for attention? There are some people to crave so much attention, that negative attention is just as pleasant to them as real attention.... JT

  19. It's not so much the dress which is wrong, but the accessories. Without the belt and worn with minimalist sandals (as shown on the model) the overall picture would have been a lot better. And the hair is the eternal mess, of course.

    1. Here I disagree with you, Veerle. As worn by the model it is really too casual, then she should keep it for a holiday occasion; maybe that is what she will do.

    2. غير معرف27/5/20 16:54

I agree with you, Veerle. This is a casual dress and it is not meant to be belted or dressed up. The fabric and cut suggest a cool and comfortable dress. I cannot explain the sleeves. They are too much of a bad thing. You are absolutely correct when you say it would look better if worn with simple flats or sandals and without the belt as it is shown on the model. Maxima just put lipstick on a pig.

  21. I read all the comments good and mostly bad about this dress. I tried to find something positive about the dress but I could not. I guess I could say I like the belt by itself and that is it. The fit is not good, the color is awful, the shape... I have no words.

Well it’s not her best look, but she is a tall, statuesque woman who can definitely pull off an exaggerated detail like these massive sleeves. Also, she suits these colours (camel, tan and beige) very well. The only thing I don’t like is how crumpled the fabric appears, which gives it a very casual vibe, quite at odds with her smart shoes and handbag. I think she should save it for vacation and wear it with espadrilles and a straw bag. (V.M.)

Ladies and gentlemen, if you ever need a visual illustration for the definition of the word, "fugly," please redirect to photos six and eight above.

    :-O

However, I will say this as well; I probably would have skipped over the post if not for the ... "frugliness" of the upper portion of the dress. It made me click on the link and thus pay attention to the cause of "digital healthcare in Amsterdam." So, the joke may be on us. In the end our Max achieved her goal. ;-)

Anon @ 4PM, your comment about the health benefits for mask utilization, is so contrary to science that it almost hurts. It's a pity that people go around making uneducated comments. Masks prevent the spread of disease, period, no surgeon would dare to open you up without one, no dentist would be breathing into your mouth while performing a procedure, nurses would never tend to wounds without them, babies won't be delivered without the use of protective face gear. Thanks to hygiene and PPE women don't die any longer after delivery due to unwarranted infections, and millions of people are alive because the healthcare givers are protecting them by wearing the appropriate equipment. It's your choice to refuse to wear a mask to protect the vulnerable, but stop talking about a subject that you know very little. Facts are facts and they are backed by the scientific community.
Opinions about fashion are subjective and there aren't right or wrongs, just different preferences.
Please educate yourself, or come and volunteer in my hospital to help treat COVID patients without protective gear.

Anon@ 4PM, education, curiosity and a desire to be well informed can be easily achieved by any person that wishes so. You don't have a clue about the importance of wearing PPE, not only to protect those that will take care of you and yours, if God forbid you'll succumb to illness, but mostly to protect you. Wearing a mask for hours on end during a long surgery or a 10 hour shift on the ICU is not easy, in the past weeks it has become a very challenging situation. It's done because is a fact that face coverings reduce the contagion, no fake news here.
To ask a private citizen to try and mitigate the spread of illness by using masks just for short period of time while interacting with others is not a capricious motive that governments are trying to impose on you....
For the ones that refuse to do so because of vanity, political agenda or disregard for the life of others , just say so, but don't invent ignorant theories about the advantages of practicing safe habits.
