Today, Norwegians celebrate their National Day. Main celebrations of the day usually take place in the areas surrounding the Royal Palace in Oslo. This is not the case this year, and this is the first national day not to be celebrated by the public since the Second World War.

This year, Queen Sonja and King Harald celebrate the National Day at the royal estate, and not at the Royal Palace as they normally do. This is because of the corona pandemic. Yesterday, photos of Queen Sonja and King Harald taken at the royal estate in Oslo were released on the occasion of the National Day.

The situation of the corona pandemic has become stable in Norway in the last few weeks. Restaurants and schools are now open. In addition, crowds of up to 50 people are permitted to gather in theatres and concerts.

Just to clarify it, the estate mentioned is the Bygdøy Royal Estate on the beautiful Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo. There's another royal estate on the same peninsula as well, the small Oscarshall Palace. You can visit both in the summer, although only the farm buildings at Bygdøy Estate is open to the public, just not in July. The peninsula is also home to many popular museums. And beaches! I recommend a visit if you were to travel to Oslo :)

It was weird celebrating the Constitution Day in the middle of a pandemic, but our royals made it a really happy day! <3

Nice to see people out and about on this very important day for Norwegians. Perhaps instead of people parading past the royals as in years past, this will become the norm for the royals to walk around and interact more with the people. Good on Norway for successfully improvising. ~Laurel~

  4. The National costumes are beautiful, lovely to see the walk around. Queen Sonja looks delightful, I love her red jacket and beautiful silk bow blouse. She looks stunning.

A wonderful day if celebration but also a bit of morning as many good folk died in that troubled war. However yesterday was the time where the war was over and my for father's fat mother's, as well as others celebrated the victory of indipendance, but yet also moarned their losses. Hail Norge elske landet of hele mitt hjorte 💖❤️
