King Carl Gustaf of Sweden Celebrates His 74th Birthday Today

Today, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden celebrates his 74th birthday. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the traditional celebration of the King's birthday at the royal palace's courtyard, to be attended by the Armed Forces and public, was cancelled. Instead, a smaller ceremony was held by the Chief of Staff at the Royal Palace - and of course there was a salute at 13.00 from Skeppsholmen.

The King and Queen are currently isolated at Stenhammar's castle. On the occasion of the birthday, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia met with members of the media outside Stenhammar Castle, obeying social distance rules, and took part in a photo shoot. The photos were taken by photographer Jonas Ekströmer.

    Ravie de voir le couple royal qui a l'air toujours complice.. Le roi est bien souriant, élégant dans ce dégradé de couleurs.. J'aime beaucoup le blazer pied-de-poule de la Reine bicolore jaune et noir; cela change du blanc et noir !
    Bon anniversaire au Roi pour ses 74 ans !

    Happy birthday to the king - a stylish man and usually one of the best dressed royals.
    As for the queen - I love that last outfit with the poncho!

      More and more "trendy-oldies" on this site. And why not? I'm in their age group and they give me fashion inspiration.

    Après toutes ces années, il est regrettable qu'il n'ait jamais un petit regard aimable ou tendre ou un petit geste affectueux envers son épouse si dévouée, si habile et si intelligente. Elle doit être au-dessus de tout cela, mais elle doit trouver la situation saumâtre parfois. MARIMAR

    He has a reputation "he never smiles", I guess a tiny little smile from him is a smile! Some past years have been difficult for that couple, mentioned by the press and in a book, and also confirmed by himself in an interview. Today they look cute, but smiles are still rare.     Happy 74th Birthday to Carl Gustaf XVI King of Sweden. I like pic 4 and 6 the best. In pic 4 he even smiles a little. Nice casual outfits. Both look great.

    Happy birthday to King Carl. They are a lovely couple. It appears that the Queen is trying very hard to force a smile to his face in picture No. 3. In picture 4, with his hand on his hip, he looks very happy. Queen Silvia always looks stylish. Love the last picture of the couple with their dog.

    Nice photos of the King and Queen. The birthday of a King is a fitting way to end this birthday-studded month of April; so many royals had birthdays this past month! And his dog Brand - well, she is his little darling.

    He is dressed like a decent country gentleman. I do not like Silvia's houndstooth jacket, although in her cute shawl-and-sweater outfit she looks years younger.

    And yes Carl Gustaf does smile; we just don't often see his cheerful side when he's in public. It's been said that behind closed doors and away from the cameras he is a fun-loving person.
