King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited Jokkmokk Fair

On Thursday, February 6, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited Jokkmokk Fair in northern Sweden, held in connection with the Sami National Day. The King and Queen met with members of the Sami Parliament's Board and Bureau. Jokkmokk Fair has a long history and is an unbroken tradition for more than 400 years. The King and Queen also visited the Sami Educational Center. There, the King and Queen toured a student exhibition made by the second-year students of the craft group. The center was founded in 1942 and has since then provided education to the Sami people.

  3. Queen Silvia is stunning in her traditional Sami attire. The blue dress with the red and yellow stripes, the white cape with its brooches, and her boots are gorgeous. Even when she dons the red jacket and cap to greet the public, she looks radiant and years younger. Although the King is handsome, as ever, I wonder why he does not dress in the traditional costume.

Lihkku beivviin (northern sàmi), Vuorbbe biejvijn (lule sàmi), læhkoeh biejjine (southern sàmi). Happy Sàmi national day! A little late, but still... :) Queen Silvia is looking good in the gàkti. They look cute with the reindeer!

I don't know if you're interested, but here are some sami artists for you to listen to:
