  1. The Queen looks splendid in purple and the amazing Kent amethyst brooch is the icing on the cake. Catherine's coat is very pretty. Is it a tweed or something else? At any rate, her hat picks up the blue tone in the coat. Her boots are nice as well. She and William are well matched and in step with each other.

That hat is so jarring with the rest of the outfit. Not the right style or color. I sometimes really wonder why the DofC sometimes gets her accessories so wrong. DMP

    1. The outing is in the English countryside. Kate is just having a bit of English country "fun" with her hat.

This coat shows her slim figure and is much more beautiful than those oversize coats worn by some royal family members. DofC has nicer hats, but this whole outfit is nice and elegant. Kate and Sophie (Wessex) are real royal ladies.

  6. Love the coat and hat on DofC. It is a nice change from the exaggerated hair bands.

I love this look on Kate! Beautiful print on the coat, perfect length! The contrasting hat is so modern, and it looks great on her. Seems she never had a misstep when it comes to fashion. A very well dressed group of people attending with them. The queen looks fab as always.

Gorgeous, both the Queen and the Duchess. I love the blue hat;the style is far from old fashioned, but very much "en vogue" now
William, such a handsome man and well dressed. I admire this couple. Doing their duties without complaining or asking attention for themselves. Its not easy being in the spotlights every step of the way. Anna

The hat looks out of place with the rest of her outfit. Too casual. Sophie Wessex wore a similar hat recently. Other than that, Kate looks quite lovely. Bel

Catherines coat is beautiful. I like the colours and the brushed wool look, even though the colours are to me more 'Fall/Autumn' than winter. There is too much of the hat colour for the outfit. If she had worn that colour in less quantity (such as on one of those headbands that she likes) it would blend better. These trilby style hats seem to be quite popular; both Anne and Sophie have worn the style recently and now Catherine.

Ooops...I mistakenly typed 'Trilby' when I meant 'Fedora' for the style of hat.

  12. These hunter-like hats are a bit old-fashioned. Lately Catherine has been wearing clothes like a landed gentry. I don‘t like this style at all, unless you put a new spin on these great english fabrics and patterns. But this clothes look old-fashioned and unimaginative, expensive tailoring or not. I am not sure what she wants to express with it. Back to the fifties? The real British way of life? If Brexit then do it properly? ;)

Kate isn't landed gentry;and to be honest the royals aren't farmers they have the farming community do the work for them;they might visit and have houses in the country;but never do a day's work. People on the cattle stations in Australia own a lot more land than the Royals and they actually work their properties. You can dress in a style that gives people an illusion of something;and that is what is in their heads, but not our heads. The clothes supports the British traditional industries.

Of course you are right, Catherine is no landed gentry who can wear these clothes naturally. I personally know hunters who wear such hats. But I think you can better support the traditional British industries, if you show that these clothes can also be fashionable. With such a hat it is certainly not.

Great look for HM. Love this color purple. I like Dss Kate's hat, not so much the coat ,maybe a hat in brown and smaller would have looked better. This is MO only.

I love this hat. Loved the style on Sophie Wessex too. Kind of cheeky and fresh, goes very well with the everyday-style of her coat (for this everyday occasion that does not require formal elegance). (Ann.)

    1. I agree this is not a formal occassion - just a normal Sunday Morning church attendance. On my screen there appears to be shades of cobalt blue and purple tones in the coat so I think the hat is a perfect colour match and lifts the outfit. It is a lovely hat and she can wear it well

  16. I really like that style of hat, I think it looks good on Kate. But I don´t think the blue works with the warm tones of the coat and boots.

  17. I think Catherine looks smart and sophisticated. She has an air of confidence about her this past year that I don't think was evident quite as much before.

I know I am in minority, but I don’t like at all the coat Catherine chose. Her fedora is indeed not matching, but I think it would have worked quite well with one of (many) blue or navy coats. Which begs the question: why not re-wear one those? Don’t want to start a controversial stream, but to me it’s rather inconsiderate. Forgive me if you disagree. She has so many beautiful (some absolutely stunning) coats that fit her better... I just don’t understand.

Her Majesty looks wonderful (and rewore this outfit at least ten times!).

I know I am in minority. I don’t like the coat Catherine chose. The hat indeed doesn’t match but it would have worked very well with one of her many blue or navy coats. I am only expressing an opinion here, but I really don’t understand why she needed yet another one (please don’t get angry, it is my opinion). She has so many other absolutely beautiful coats, that fit her perfectly and yet don’t get to be taken out of the closet. Such a waste. And so little consideration to being a role model in this area. Too bad, she is such a great influencer in so many important areas. This could be another one area to provide leadership. Sure, many will have a different perspective. But the endless consumption will catch up with us and leaders see it early.

Her Majesty looks wonderful in an elegant outfit she wore at least ten times.

  20. This is a rare miss for me. I am not keen on the Duchess of Cambridge's coat. Love the boots. The Queen looks marvellous. The purple colour of her coat is superb, offset by the glorious Kent amethyst brooch, amethyst surrounded by beautiful diamonds, a stunning jewel piece.

  21. Lily A, I am in total agreement with you, love the hat, it's modern, and sassy, like the boots also, and even the the cut of the coat, but oh my goodness, the fabric is simply horrid, I have a very faint memory from my childhood of these type of material used by older ladies... it reminds me of a furry creature...
